  • rap music doesn't get more surreal than this track

  • when your mom catches you masturbating...scream phoenix XD

  • so perfect how pigeon was before this song on the album. after pigeon everything seems helpless. then u got this masterpiece of emotial release. caged bird ox is out the cage. a grand finale.

  • classic album hands down....

  • If you listen closely, you'll hear the meaning of life.

  • In a just and un-sentimental world this would be hailed as a classic alongside the greats of the 90's - perhaps in the future it will be. EL-P and CanOx achieved that rarest of things: they didn't just create their own sound, they created their own WORLD. When you hear a true piece of art it creates a compartment in your mind - and there it is, something as vital as a childhood memory; or a dream. It becomes part of you and stays with you in your life. I feel as if I've lived this record.

  • @HalSamuel yo i hear u man some tracks you feel more than listen to

  • This record is fucking amazing. No clever shit, no jokey way to say it, no hype all pure truth - this record. This fucking record - wow.

  • omfg...chill bumps.

  • Holy shit this has taken me years to find. Fucken incredible song.

  • This entire album is a trip.

I listened to the whole album sober and high, and both times it sounds equally as good and it still made me feel amazing.

  • sorry for saying same as everyone below and stating obvious but this album is a hip hop masterpiece. it's not only rhyming. it's a major league poetry.

  • just kepping this vid up to date

  • best hip hop album iv ever heard

  • At least for me, this is when Hip Hop peaked. It would be tough for anyone to top this album. It reflects the times when it came out perfectly.

  • avoid serpents and worship life

  • everyone up in this comment box..yall get it. you all feel the same way as me about this album...one of the best of all time, defines the essence of hip hop.

  • Have you ever thought that a song was specially written for you, like the writer knew you and what you are about. When i first heard this I almost quit rappin, feeling like the song had already said what all I've ever wanted to say in Hip Hop, whether it be Graffiti, Rapping, Breaking, Or Scratching. Much love From R.S.A, Long live HIP HOP

  • Pathos and poetry.. one of my favorite albums of all time!

  • if you bump this on youtube scream phoenix

  • I just discovered Cannibal Ox today and god they have such I mean a really unique sound (almost sounds a little depressing, not in a bad way). Definitely glad it was these guys then somethin like todays music cause it all sounds the same...

But yea I'm stayin on these guys for a while

  • You cant say this is JUST hip hop, this is like Hip Hop---IN MOTHERFUCKING SPACE G!!!!

  • One of the best if not the best hip hop album of all time.

  • if this gets played on some movie trailer in the future, everybody thats a TRUE fan, smash ANYONE comin here talkin bout "thumbs up if [insert movie here] brought you here!"

    SMASH them!

  • @DustyWINGZ Yeah, lets go get em!

  • @DustyWINGZ Lil Wayne, Waka Flocka, Wiz Khalifa, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane and Lil B

  • @DustyWINGZ pigeons man...fckng pigeons ....

  • Best lyrics ever

  • just look go to the cannibal ox discography on wiki you can find most samples wiki for alot of bands

  • and keep stressing thinking how gonna mask the days /

with passion that's why we rap this way !!!

  • @djdigitalwarrior I think it's "master days"

  • @jyamma76 maybe yeah,i was blazed out at the time

  • This song sends shivers down my spine EVERYTIME

  • All rappers today MUST listen to this...and learn what real art is. This album will be played long after we are all dead and gone. Can Ox is immortal

  • Top Billin Kramer.

  • The type of rap should be under the genre Epic.

  • Disgusting, what radio has done to the mind-elevating properties of HIP-HOP...but, it's not to die, for sure.

Life moves on, in the form of cable and internet activities. And, those that wish to share ;)...

  • Everyone get down and put your ears to the ground! Thats where Hip-Hop lives!

  • epic album... never again an album like that. what a pitty

  • higher level

  • damnn this masterpiece is beautiful on all levels.

    lyrically exceeding my expectations.

  • this track just slapped me in the face today

i think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship

  • the results of real hip hop is now hear and will advance !

  • The last duo of rappers that needs to be attacked for Satanism Their material is deep enough for me to like, and while there is some stuff that almost sounds like "posturing" or badassery for the sake of it, I know that wasn't their intention. The F-Word is a jab at everyone stereotypically thinking it meant "fuck" when they first saw it, but it didn't mean that. They have hearts. Cussing is a part of life, and the low-life city culture that they actually attack if you listen closely.

  • @AdamodellReVolt the F word has nothing to do with the word fuck, its all about the word freind. the woman he is in love with just wanting to be freinds.

  • Only for the True Hip Hop Genre

  • next level advancement.

  • This is like Deltron 3030. With a machete.

  • trapped in the system, pigeons.

  • GOOSEBUMPS EVERYTIME!

  • im literally speechless. unbelievable. amazing. astonishing.

  • Phillip Glass, El-P, Vordul and Vast- all geniuses at their respective crafts. Saw Can Ox live a few days after 9/11, it was a surreal experience given the gravity of the albums lyrics. It was one of those moments in your life where a soundtrack fits your reality so perfectly and I'll never forget it. Much respect to the passion and craft...this isn't just about hip hop. It's VITAL art. A masterpiece. My favorite hip hop album of all time.

  • @jyamma76 Word. In a hundred years, shld there be any discs and anything to play them on, "The Cold Vein" will be a pretty good compendium of how it all sounded while it was disintegrating.

  • @jyamma76 phillip glass is just ok-a lotta that minimalism movement sht was kinda whack, butt ill sample no matter.

    vordul is ill

el p is very ill one of the best of his generation-producing

    vast is good a lot

  • @groalerable It's music homie. So it's all opinions, which we are free to share, obviously. I think Philip Glass is amazing. I don't just listen to hip-hop nor do I prioritize it over any other type of music. It's all one continuum. Peace.

  • @jyamma76 Top 5 of all time! sometimes 1 album is all you need to get across to the world what your all about! God bless!

  • @jyamma76 well said

  • This is one of the most powerful hiphop-songs ever. It sounds like an enourmous battlemachine rumbling through a post-apocalyptic nightmare. I own the LP, the instrumentals, the cd. Everything.

  • Gotta clear mind and stay focused

    Avoid serpents, and worship life

    We like merchants, street peasants

Wit these lessons; live, build, and pass away

And keep stressin, thinkin how we gonna master days

With passion, that's why we rap this way

    From Manhattan, one-fifteen to one-three-five

We pigeons, became phoenix with open minds

To open yours, flow da raw

    Innovative....phoenix

  • Mega, Allah's stars seen only afar

The physical of ma chosen, my craft is bars

We rebel righteous, who stands his scars in the hypeness

Rep live graf artists and ghetto writers

    United, starvin, wit one table

And no mic, and still get it all bombin, an flow nice

    Spit vomit, an throw dice

Takin chances in life, tryna get by

Stop all the time gittin high

  • Scream Phoenix....

  • MY GOD! I HAVE NO WORDS, SPEECHLESS..

  • Vortal Mega was my brother's best friend (he's in the Pain Killers video). Good friend of mine too. When I first heard he did an album with El-P, I was skeptical cuz El-P has a tendency to make a track that sounds great till he adds just this ONE fucked up element to throw it off. But I liked a lot on this album. This and Pigeon are my favorite.

  • This is real hip hop. To real for most to comprehend.

  • My first copy of this album got left behind in a transferring airport. I thought my first reaction would be anger for losing a priceless release of innovative hip hop. But, a wave of peace overwhelmed me when the thought of the next to find it would be as elevated as this album made me.

  • thats awesome dude wwhenever i finish a book i leave it on a bus or give it to a friend... so yeah same concept books and cd's are both works of art

  • @les907 thats the best way to look at it whenever i read a good i gie it away i already read it i usually dont read them twice just pass it on or i leave them on the bus

  • @les907

You are definitely a great optomist.

  • @les907 dude... that is ill. awesome philosphy. luv it

  • @les907 I don't know how, but your words have moved me just reading your comment.

It truly is a majestic album.

  • @les907

my god that speaks the truth of that. how well put

  • @les907 Well luckily they had more than one copy.

  • "Jesus on the crucifix"? that twisted

  • Jesus dies on the crucifix only to resurrect and ascend, like a phoenix rises from its ashes. This song is poetic.

  • hmmm I guess when you put it in that way it gives much more logic and alot less thought that they satanic or some sh*t but hey you cant blame me heard that rap line by vast-aire ( B-boy Alpha Lyrics) where he says:

"My mother said, 'you sucked my pussy when you came out'"

Pretty sick (in the bad way) disgusting even. Any ways thanks 4 clearing that line for me. Peace

  • having a dirty mind is much better then being brainwashed. try it some time.

  • what the f are you talking about man. aint nobody brainwashed this side.

I think we all have dirty minds but this is beyond dirty he needs to get his mind checked

  • no you need to get your mind check for not finding the comedy, tragedy, and all around dopeness in "my mother said you sucked my pussy when you came out". hip hop is about self expression with literaly no moral or religous restriction in the material. why would you water down a fire that was meant to burn?

  • @LesegoMot You seriously thought they were Satanic for saying "Jesus on the crucifix"? In that case, so was my Sunday school teacher

  • Try reading the bible... you'll have nightmares for weeks

  • this is for woopetywoopwoop

    ??????????

u have no idea what u talking about so j j j j j just leave it. peace (oh btw FU)

  • Calm down dude.. it was just a joke...

  • now now...you know better than to swear...its ungodly...bet Jesus is dead ashamed of you

  • Shut the fuck up....

  • "Jesus is dead"

  • stop being corny god damn it. jesus dont give 2 fucks weather you take his name in vane or use words condoned evil by catholics. your god is not judgemental. i promise.

  • Still get goose bumps every time I listen to this.

  • which album was better?

    funcrusher plus ...or... cold vein

  • does it really matter el-p produced both, and rapped on 1,so u tell me who is better

  • @Krigasasuras it's just a question just like comparing LeBron and Kobe

  • i don't know if it gets any better than Cold Vein...

  • i would say fan dam or cold vein...

  • @FLCL420 are you saying fantastic damage was better than funcrusher plus?

  • lyrically no

funcrusher is more raw hip hop

i was looking for something new and fan dam really hit home for me

    changed my style musically

i thought fan dam and cold vein went hand in hand

  • there is NO,,,NO better LP on this part of the galaxy then cold vein.

  • Masterpiece.

  • LOVE it

  • just ordered the album online, hasnt come yet... just wondering is this song on the album because it isnt shown on the tracklist

  • its on it

  • aite cool thanks

  • np bro

  • shhhhhiiitttt, this song reminds of why i love true hip hop as much as i do

  • One of my all time favorite hip hop songs, no questions ask, pure greatness. Vordul and Vast need to get back together.

  • Takes me back...sigh....why dudes always gotta fall apart?

  • good things always come to an end

  • man i miss cannibal ox

  • agreed

  • yeaaa

  • hell yeah. a legendary trio lost to time. vast aire, vordul and el-p.
