Watering down public health care is bullshit. It wont work. The system needs to serve all equally. Insurance companys will still be in buisness with paying lost wages and private hospital rooms and such, they are not to be trusted with life and death issues. Fuck Insurance companys.
I would have liked to see something a little better but this isn't bad. It's a foot in the door. The fact is the states who opt out will be begging to opt in a matter of time. The bottom line is that the people want this and those who keep it from them will be voted out of office. Now it's time to pressure your states and let them know you want this.
I have a lot of petitions as well as the phone numbers in the comment section of my profile. Please stop by and sign them. Thanks.
I wonder if the Bible belt will be largely opting out? It could cut both ways. On one hand, 'theys a all agin them thar big guvmint types' when they are on the stump, but often enough, swine like Bobby Jindall talk a boat load of shit then pass out huge (both monetarily and physically) stimulus checks with plenty of photos for all.
Will they talk shit but opt in or will they take out their Katana's and do the honorable thing? Here's hoping they all follow they way of the Samurai.
Since I live right smack in the middle of the bible I will keep you posted. I know there is going to be huge war here over this... I couldn't even put signs in my yard during the campaign without risking vandalism and possibly harm. People here have lawn jockeys in their yards still.. I kid you not.. so I doubt we get it.
Putonwolf - did you know that Jindall has stock in Halliburton/KRB - Wonder what kind of stock options he has in the insurance companies. don't you think that these should be disclosed? This has certainly got to be a conflict of interest - big time.
I wonder if the opt-in proposed by Reid doesn't serve two purposes: 1. get the legislation moving towards consensus, and 2. force a situation where the naysayers will be forced to show their hand and thoroughly piss off a large portion of their voters.
That i9s exactly what I think is going on... I call this move play the player... Obama is a lot smoother than a lot of folks realize that's why I don't have any doubts this is gonna all work out. All you have to do is stay one step ahead of the other side.. and they are easy to second guess... Like now we can fully expect them to take things up a notch on the crazy scale. They are very predictable. They have done so many crazy things they look ridiculous anymore and Our side is counting on that.
Yep... That is possible. This is a foot in the door for the future.. Just like medicare was a foot in the door when it comes to trying to do what we are doing now.
I love Obama, But this public option is not enough. This opt in stuff by the states reminds me of the Medical Marijuana and Gay marriage stuff. Isn't anything ever right enough that one party will stand up and fight for it? I know Obama wants this passed this year and its better than what we have but I'm one of those Liberals who isn't a Democrat but is holding out Presidents feet to the fire. We have to be able to get a better public option than this. And all this to get MAYBE 2 Rep votes?
bruiser, the Dem party is standing up for good healthcare reform except for the few Blue Dogs. I earnestly hope that their states opt-out and their constituency promptly "opts-out" the Blue Dogs!
I cant stand the Blue Dogs. This was THE major issue Obama campaigned on before the media and W finally admitted that the economy was in the crapper. It was for a long time for the people who were not rich, but it didnt become a national media issue till the rich people started losing money.
But the Blue Dogs who campaigned for Obama knew what they were in for. Also Id expect more of the Republicans to break from their party lines & do the right thing here. Literally a matter of life or death!
Some of those Blue Dogs rode Obama's coat tails right into office as well. I agree, let's see those Republicans besides Snowe and Collins who support health care reform stand up and be counted. Of course the problem is if they break away from the party dogma they face being chastised by the national GOP heads. To be fair though, we're discussing the same with the Blue Dogs, wanting them out for not towing the line.
The Blue Dogs should refuse to tow the Dem party line .the second Obama proposed something that is complete BS. But that isn't the case here & if Obama did propose something like that, he would be big enough to listen to opposing views and end up at the right decision. Towing the party line is ok when your party happens to be right. The excuse that "we will let people in the USA die because the richest of us are already taken care of and any change might risk some portion of that" is the real BS

Dosen't this also mean that if a public option in enacted, no matter how small, IT'S There? Meaning we can always go back and expand it?
