Rather naively, for years I thought Tracey Ullman wrote this. YouTube led me here where I learned it was written by John Loudermilk and heard this fabulous version by Sandy Posey. All credit to Tracey and Skeeter but this is now the version for me!

At the beginning of summer, this is @ the top of the list of tracks I play... to get me in the mood! I love 'Born A Woman' too. True, Tracy Ulman did that special Phil Spectre's 'Wall Of Sound' version... that is great too - though, a little noisy for my liking. Happy listening. o(~_~)o

Love it - I have it by Skeeter Davis which is good too, not sure which version I

prefer but I do like all of Sandy Posey's songs.

Ooh this is classic. It's nice to hear it finally in stereo.MGM rarely released anything in stereo back in the mid sixties.

My mum forever played this while I was a kid.

I have heard various versions but this is my fav. Probably because I was brainwashed with it as a youngster lol.

Skeeter Davies was absolutely a great singer & there's no doubt about it, aside from being the originator of this song while Tracey Ullman perhaps was not only wonderfully amazing, beautiful & SEXY when she made it to the top 20 but Gorgeous!!!, Seductive!!!, Alluring!!! & Sensuous!!!!!!! as well...but frankly, I have heard no other singer who can sing this song better than the way Sandey does it... Tracy Ullman's cover of this song is very good; but this is the best version. Sandy was an outstanding singer, and pop/country blends was her greatest strength.

The original is not portuguese. Skeeter Davis was the first to record it. Davis recorded this on 1965, and then Natercia Barreto recorded a cover in 1968, there's a million of covers from this song... E sei o que estou a dizer pq sou português :)

Maybe I got used to hearing Tracey Ullman's version too much, but I like the 1984 cover version better because it has a more powerful, Phil Spector-style arrangement that makes this sound IMHO a bit weak in comparison. A very catchy tune however!
