  • the amp is in flat

  • whats playing at 0:52 ?

  • cool classic single coil sound, I like the section around 2:35

  • jouer super bien à la guitare électrique,et jadore cette pédale,je viend de l'acheter aujourd'ui,elle ma couter que 55 Euro super les sons ,encore bravo,à bientot de la part de Didier de la belgique en europe.

  • @MsDidier1973 merci didier.

  • would this give me the heavy distortion sound of Rammstein?

  • worst pedal of all time...

  • I had a heart atack when i heard Slayer!

    Thx for video dude.

  • Is it true that distortion is basically a distortion is an overdrive with pretty much extended gain?

  • very good

  • very good

  • I have this pedal and I never, ever put the tone or distortion past 50% (though sometimes I do put the distortion at about 2o'clock on occasion) because I hate the harsh sound you get when it goes any higher than that. I use the pedal to boost solos.

  • I am sorta impressed, how do you think this pedal would do with a Dean Razorback Floyd?

  • this pedal sucks dont get it if you want one i'll sell you mines

  • Humbucker pickups work really well with the meaty tones of this pedal, especially with the distortion knob cranked all the way.

  • awesome playing.

  • DO YOU THINK THIS PEDAL WOULD BE GOOD FOR LED ZEPPELIN STYLE OR RUSH??????/

  • @stonefree5 i think it would be good

  • Is this right? If I have this distortion pedal, the amp goes to the input and the guitar goes to the output, right?

  • What ds-1 mod you did? nice sound my friend :D

  • i'm trying to get the sound of you know your right by nirvana, what pedal should i use! please help

  • @yipkiyay0 ok, here's some tips. Kurt used a DS-1, & an Electro Harmonix Small Clone. I've considered getting the DS-1, if you want a cheap decent, authentic Nirvana sound, get the DS-1, but if you want a heavy general grunge sound get a Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion pedal, or a Digitech Grunge Pedal.

  • @yipkiyay0 Tech 21 Sansamp Classic. But its pretty expensive

  • very informative, ridiculous chops man

  • So far the best demo on youtube! Thanks alot! You play very similar to me, so it gives me a good idea of how I will sound.

  • whats the difference between the orange ds-1 and this light colored orange ds-1???

    is the light one fake??

  • ehh, where did u find the light one? :P

  • my amp already has an 'overdrive' knob on it.. will buying one of these be a waste of my $.. ?

  • No, because this gives the oppurtunity to be playing something on a clean setting, then go into a rock chorus with the pedal, instead of going to your amp and re-setting it.

  • ïs this demo made with classic single coile strat?? sorry for my eng. iam czech :)

  • yes, single coil. the video response to this features a humbucker guitar.

  • best demo i've watched so far.now im more convinced that im gonna buy this one.thanks man. xD

  • War ensmble Nice

  • i need this pedal :O

  • i have this pedal and i love it!!

  • if you look at the demo i did with the modification you might like the sound better, takes some of the high end fizz away and gives it more body

  • nice demo - the fun starts @ 1:49

  • I LOVE THIS PEDAL it gives me a GRUNGE SOUND

  • iy was made for METAL.!

not candy ass grunge for that you would use the gain any average Amp

  • course, your right. and also it seems your brain is made by metal as well. LOL

  • by Metal? of Metal

anyway once again its for Metal & this demo isnt even that good.

the Distortion isnt on ALL the way.

    (how do you know? :)

Because ive been useing the DS1 since

    1991 thats HOW

  • @MetalHeart8787 the ds-1 is not for metal. lol

  • yes it is Dummy

explain why i bought mine by sep/91

    Before the grudge kicked in.

& the pedals that were introduced after it like "Metal zone" OR others were Not as Heavey. theres plenty of Metal Guitarist that use the DS-1. How long have you been into music? 1 year?

  • plenty of them use a ds-1 sure. but it's not like it's made for metal.

  • metal zone is not as heavy as the ds-1? are you freakin crazy ?

  • this pedal was made famous because of nirvana a GRUNGE band

  • @NirvanaVault usually use d by Kurt

  • Nice playing. im planning on getting this pedal soon

  • I dont know what to do with this pedal!! is not distorted enought to be a distortion pedal and is so crunchy to be an overdrive!!( yeah, i know it isnt an overdrive but it sound more like this kind of pedal) its making me so fucking crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • maybe you have a low gain guitar. . . .try playing ds1 in a ibanez or fender guitar

  • indeed ... I don't understand why they keep putting up demo's using strats ... it sounds a lot fuller and better using high output humbuckers.

  • they use strats because it can bring out more gain on a pedal. strats also have brighter tone than humbuckers.

  • How can you have more gain with less than half the volume? The DC resistance of my strat vs ibanez bridge pickups is 5.8K vs 16.6K :) But what I mean is, especially this pedal sounds a lot better with humbuckers imho. Having the pedal tone above 45% is horrible, so plugging in a strat will only make it worse ;) I just had to comment this as all online demo's of this pedal sound nowhere good or even the same compared to the huge sound I get out of it O.o

  • look at how high you set your guitar pickups. The closer it is to the string, the louder it gets. and most ibanez i see here has a built in preamp, which i do not like because i have to change batteries all the time. I do not know about the computations or numbers how to measure it but they sound much louder than my Sg.

  • Nah, I don't like actives neither, so I don't have them. You can check it using a multimeter. Put it in the 20kOhm range and measure the DC resistance between the 2 endpoints of the pickup. if you don't want to open your guitar, toggle to the pickup, open the volume/tone controls completely, and put a cable in your guitar so you can measure the resistance between the cable its tip and sleeve. More resistance means the pickup has more windings; more windings produces more output :-)

  • since when was a fender a high gain guitar?

part from a jaguar with hummers

  • sorry, my bad. . . .

I only own a new fender and a very old Gibson and the fender sounds louder. I think my Gibson is broken coz its really old, i'm getting it fixed.

  • its designed not to have too much distortion to keep its tone from breaking too much. this pedal sounds better when you use a compressor before it..

  • It does? Got to try that then... but not the boss compressor; in my opinion, it sucks. Both before and after any distortion unit, i just can't make that pedal sound like any youtube review :o

  • and with Humbuckers, i don like very much the sound of the Ds-1 whit Single Coils

  • Wow dude. Your playing=my mind blown. Good stuff!!! I just ordered this pedal....you so far have the best demo vid of this pedal on youtube.

  • War Ensemble!!!

  • bites your mom's cock is what it does

  • esse pedal é um boss(TA)

    rsrsrs

    não curti o som!

  • BTW,what ae you playing from :53-1:03?

  • Can I use this to sound like Nickelback or Seether,I have a Les Paul Special II.

  • No. try a big muff

  • Comment removed

  • does your amp ever make a crackling noise when you engage your ds-1

  • Depends on what amp you're using (wattage, impedance, solid-state/tube, etc), what pick-ups you got on your guitar, what cables you're using, other pedals you have in your chain, power supply (batteries/AC Adapter/etc), and a lot more.

I'd suggest getting a BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor for eliminating noise, keep threshold high and decay low. And if you're gonna play live or in the studio, it'd be a safe bet to use a Direct Box with that as well, to eliminate ground hum.

    Hope that's helpful.

  • holy shit great playing!!!!!!

  • would this be good to play like linkin park

  • Depends on your guitar. With my Les Paul (which has humbuckers) it can get very heavy but on my strat (single coils) it sounds bad.

  • yep, depends on what equipment you use - as has been stated. if you are just using this through the clean channel of a small SS amp using single coils it is not going to sound as heavy as using it through a jcm 800 which is breaking up with a guitar with EMGs.

  • o i have a fender squier and a fender amp

  • War ensembleeee!

    lol

  • would this work for some iron man stuff or black sabbath songs like Crazy Train? I can hear GnR in here, but what about the others? I'm going to get it but I'm not sure if I'll like it or not

  • get big muff pi

  • SLAYEER!!

  • will it work for like slipknot sounds

  • if you want slipknot sounds get the metal muff or the boss metal zone

  • ir i turn my gain on my amp all the way up and this thing all the way up will that siound bad

  • Is it worth it. I have a les paul standard(epiphone). I play alot of ACDC and GNR and stuff like that. Could this pedal deliever that type of distortion sound?

  • Woo GnR!

  • oh hell yeah, i can hear an ACDC type sound in this.. GnR too.

  • What guitar are You playing?

  • Strat

  • make a lesson on how you play like that!

  • very good video, I think I might pick one of these pedals up its got a versatile range of tone and it's pretty cheap.

  • DAMN can u play or wat!!

  • That's not how it sounded when I plugged it into my mixer. It sounded garish and unpleasant. Does it only work well through amps or something?

  • yes, it is not a preamp.

  • Preamp, eh? Is there a preamp that you could recommend that would sound good through a mixer?

  • ada mp2, or a sans amp.

or maybe just a pod or something like that.

  • Marshall JMP-1 on eBay or Craigslist because they don't make them anymore. Has a built in speaker emulator that sounds great.

  • awesome demo! 5/5 rating
