good videos but what about fraying at the edges? She didn't mention that as she was simply turning over and hemming arm holes and neck 5mm. Whenever i try that, the material frays and i have to put a damn lining in:-(
Great tutorial. I learned a lot from it. Good to know you don't need patterns. I always thought with sewing, there was only one way of doing things. Now, it's good to know, there are several ways to make an item look good. I used to stress also that I wasn't measuring correctly.
thanks. can't wait to make some for my daughters. i also feel a bit more confident now. i always fussed so much that all of my hems weren't perfectly straight but now i see that yours weren't either. makes me feel a bit better. don't mean that in any mean way. just that i can stop obsessing.
Uh.... the blonde has a stick up her butt or something and they don't wear the dress because obviously it wouldn't fit either of them. Just an observation.

What do you people expect in half an hour? I think it looks great. I love a shift dress because its simple and you can wear a big belt and some beads with it and it always looks great! Picky picky picky. For a beginner like me it is PERFECT. Can't wait to try it out.
There are reason that it wasn't modeled. It likely has no hang, fit or a single straight seam when worn. It's great that they are encouraging young people to take up sewing but it takes more than laying out the shape of an existing garment to create wearable clothing. No, you don't always have to buy a pattern but the type of fabric, bias, ease during wear, amount of stretch etc. all play into creating a garment you'd actually want to wear in public. Not bad but definitely not complete.

has anybody made this and wants to post a video or picture or something. I didn't find anything on the forum when i seen it, and i am iffy on whether or not i want to try seeing as how i don't know how the final product will be and don't want to waste my time.

You didn't need to show all of the sewing, it was overly long and boring. The blond girl knew it too with her "I'm not very patient" line and then exasperated look at the camera. Ha ha!
Also agree it would have been good to see it modeled on someone.
i think you shouldn't shouw every single thing that you're doing but instead cut to the "done" part. know? cos it's kind of long and boring if i see everything, including the sewing process.
Its sad i can't subscribe right now...its say's try again later...i will try again soon...Thanks for sharing i learn how to make no pattern dress...good job...

OMG I made my dress and it is awesome. It's a bummer that it doesn't fit. BUT I made a shirt the same way and it does fit!. I had to hand sew it so my teacher is bringing her sewing machine so she can hem the bottom of it.
This is shockingly bad practice. What about pressing and pinning and measuring? Obviously a rushed job, not straight & won't lie flat. If you are interested in learning dressmaking find a teacher who knows what they are doing.
I agree it would have been great to see somebody modelling it with some beads and high heels. As it was we couldn't even see the finished product as it was lying flat on the table. Besides all that, thank you so much for taking the time. I learn a lot from your videos.
I have made a great dress following your excellent video but the hemline around the neck has gone horribly out of shape. I used a ball point needle to prevent this from happening too?
werent you suppose to double hem the armholes and neck. like you did the bottom. you said you were going to fold them twice aswell but you didnt show us it.
deffo need some light hearted quiet music in the background to help with the awkwardness lol

and they didnt even do a zig-zag stitch on the raw edges of the material.. thats how it frays! if she is a proper dress maker, she should know that.

Ok it doesn´t look bad.. but seriously. You are SUPPOSED to show the final result -.-

Well, showing all the steps isn't necessary for most, but I'm sure some beginners really appreciated it.
Besides, their accents (for me as an American) are fabulous. I could listen to them all day! :)

While I am grateful for a sewing video that is not a Christmas stocking I dont think watching you sew the whole hem is not that interesting,
