Catching Groundhogs and Possums~Haveaheart Traps

i mat not have had a trap like that but came up with a way to catch it anyway and wld have killed it and reset my trap 4 the next critter

Thank you, they are god's little creatures too and deserve to be on our planet like the rest of us. Unfortunately there are too many people that feel groundhogs are like vermin and want to simply kill them. These are the same people that get joy out of killing other defenseless animals like squirrels and rabbits.

How do you keep squirrels from eating the bait? Would a squirrel trigger the trap or just eat the bait?

@gernith Easy...for squirrels you put in Peanut butter or other goodies. As they enter the trap they step on a metal plate that shuts the door of the trap. It is spring loaded. My friend told me he caught 25 squirrels in one summer and relocated them a mile or two away from his home. I informed him that they keep coming back because it is too close to his home. He probably had 5 squirrels that he caught 5 times each.

@lenrapp You misunderstood me. How do you catch the ground hog and not the squirrels? I have a ground hog in my yard and lots of squirrels. I only want to catch the groundhog. But I worry the squirrels will grab the bait before the groundhog gets to it?

@gernith Easy, groundhog bait can be melon peels, string beans, carrots, apples...all of these hold no interest to your squirrels. Also make sure to place the trap and put some camouflage on the cage where you think the groundhog is entering your property. I have seen mine go to a corner of my garden and disappear. Check every morning and afternoon, I have caught one in the AM and then again in the PM. You don't want them to be caged too long or they will kill themselves trying to get out.
