  • do you have any problems with these pickups being microphonic?

  • @pwrtch no not at all

  • awww such beautiful sounding pick ups......do they only go on jazz basses?

  • @FunkKlock no, there actually designed to be replacements for guild starfire basses, but poeple llike me have made them work on other basses

  • the Volta is sick! Awesome job man. But what's with the crotch shot we get in almost every video? lol

  • that is a m0ther effer BASS! congrats!

  • sounds go full and charateristic

  • hey dude im having trouble with my bass i wanna get that sound that you have in the beginning of the video. can you help me out here?

    btw i like the cover

  • Hey man, the first part of this video were you soloing the bridge pickup? Sounded like "jaco on steroids" if you will. I'm looking to do this mod to one of my basses.

  • the first notes you hear is the neck pickup

  • nice man!

where can i buy these pickups?

  • you have to order them from fred hammon yourself. check out the darkstar website for info.

  • @joerobot32 Do you know if hammon ships it to Brazil?

    thanks!

  • im pretty sure he does ship internationally. he shipped to canada, which i know isnt that far from california as brazil, but i would send an email and ask him personally

  • POW!

  • those pickups sound so righteous. are you using 250k or 500k volume pots?

  • well 500k are recommended for these pickups, but im only using 250k. the 500k's allow more highs to get through, but since im running these through a preamp, the treble boot for me has rendered the change to 500k pots unnecessary

  • i heard that larry grahm boyyyyy

  • One of the parts at the start sounded a lot like Baphomets. Nice video.

  • Sounds great! Like the lovechild of a Ric and a Precision.

  • Respect! Those pick ups sound amazing, this bass is my dreeeaaaaam. Where did you buy those pickups? I have no clue where to get darkstars. And I have an american deluxe jazz, would it even be possible to swap the stock active pick ups with those?

  • Man, that's straight Jack Casady tone right there!

  • Question...was that originally a jazz with the typical stock pickups? I currently have an 08 American Standard Jazz and want to switch out the stocks with dark stars...how did you go about doing that?

  • no, i made the body with the intention of using these pickups. then i added a '76 fender neck. the only thing that is discouraging about doing it to a stock jazz body is that the length of stock jazz pickups are longer than dark stars. this means that would see the holes of the jazz routing on either side of the dark star without a cover. the route for the dark stars is a basic square, you can find the dimensions around the net. id recommend getting an experienced person to do the routing.

  • Nice tone for POW! I didnt think those things were quite suited to slap, but I guess i'm wrong

  • these pickups are quite versatile actually. great for jazz, it gets a good jaco-ish tone from the bridge, great for rock, and yes slap. it basically sounds like the beefiest jazz bass ive ever heard.

  • are these pick-ups good with a pick or just fingers/slap?

  • they sound great with a pick

  • I seriously would love the tab to this. If you could get it to me, that would be great!

  • :o that bass is awesome! those pickups look awesome on it and just sounds so beefy!

  • How are you recording this? I'm curious to see what kind of amp/mic set up you're using or if it's a DI signal and what kind of effects/processors might be in the signal chain. Sounds like a really transparent amp through a cheap computer mic.

  • Hey man im thinking about adding one of these pickups where the pickup closer to the neck would be. But im no sure how it would sound along with the remaining single coil in the bridge position. Do you have any idea? Great video by the way they sound great.

  • i havent actually experimented with this, but i have heard of people doing it. most cases that ive heard experience balance problems because the dark stars have way more output. i would recommend putting two dark stars, as they have a higher bandwidth than regular jazz pickups, so im not sure how the mix would sound. im guessing that the dark star would drown out the jazz PU. dark stars have a really hot output for single coils. i would say do it, and if it you dont like it, add the bridge PU.

  • i like the metallic sound you can get out of them, i might put them on my old jazz bass.

  • oh ok, im asking because i saw one pretty damn similar to it on the for sale forum, anyway...awesome playing, keep it up.

  • thanks man

  • did u buy that off of talkbass?

  • no, i made it, and put '76 neck on it.

  • must...get...dark..star..pickups...for...birthday!!

  • are you playing to Rapidfire Tollbooth? cause it doesn't sound like Goliath, just wondering

  • it is goliath, rapid fire tollbooth is way slower.

  • and the lyrics are totally different

  • i also heard a bit of larry graham in the beginning

  • this song fucking rapes my soul every time i hear it!!!!!!1 sweet job dude!!

  • nice playing man. Bass looks sweet as well

  • it makes the sound tighter and more focused, im enjoying the sound alot. i installed an active passive switch to compare, and the difference confirms that getting the preamp was the good choice.

  • hi, where did you geta that bass?

  • i made it

  • POW!

  • awesome

  • I saw Omar Rodrigues lose his glasses 2 seconds into him starting the set!!!!!

  • Nice
