He basically used the poem's first stanza for the lyrics, but he wrote the music for the song. George sort of did the same thing (lyric-wise) when he lifted the phrase "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from a poem. So, don't call anyone "fools" when you don't have the facts straight.

I have been lucky enough to see three beatles in concert...Paul McCartney ( in Miami & Puerto Rico)...Ringo Starr (in Miami) and George Harrison in Puerto Rico years ago, the only drawback was the concert was sponsored by a Indian TM temple and he only played indian music and that's it, all of the beatles fans went to see if he at least play a couple of either Beatles or his songs but it didn't happen :-(

I think there is. I've read that, and from what I know about Paul, it sounds true. He was very sad about the band breaking up, much more than John or George were. Maybe he didn't explicitly tell the other Beatles what he intended the medley to mean, but I think they would have understood it.

@LesBeat115 Let It Be was actually recorded BEFORE Abbey Road, but was shelved due to problems in the sessions. Then they recorded Abbey Road, which should properly be considered their final album.

The Let It Be tapes were given to Phil Spector to redo the production (adding his "Wall of Sound" techniques of more strings and horns) and fill out the sound for a finished product.

@8down10 "Golden Slumbers" is about the sadness of the Beatles' approaching breakup, and how there's no longer a way to go back to the "golden days" of the band. "Carry That Weight" is about how each of the four wouldn't be able to achieve anything on their own as good as what they did together, and they would always "carry the weight" of having been a Beatle. And "The End"... well, that's the end of the Beatles. They each have a solo, and that last line is their final statement to the world.
