FYI - cool factoid, Bagdasarian, Sr., wrote his first major hit with his cousin William Saroyan which gained popularity with a recording by Rosemary Clooney - "Come on-a My House."
I loved 50s and 60s music. So much of the 50s stuff was like this, comedic, just great old stuff. Kids from today would say it's lame, but for me it's good time memories. Thanks for posting.
This David Seville (Ross Bagdasarian) record is available on a couple of CDs, including a Japanese David Seville CD comp, as well as on the US CD "Hard To Find Jukebox Classics 1958: More Pop Gold".
BTW, someone earlier claimed this was the B-side of his 'Witch Doctor' 45. Not so!, this was the follow-up single. The original flip of WD was 'Don't Whistle At Me Baby'. I suspect the poster must have a 1970s reissue 45 which couples the two A-sides.
Holy geeze... last time I listened to this classic was at least a few years ago. The memories are now comin' back...!
Excellent post, compared to the music of today, this will forever stand out as a legendary piece. Thank you, Dave Seville, for the memories that are forever etched in my mind.
When I was a kid, my dad brought home a bunch of 45's from an auction. This song was on one of them. I've liked it ever since then (mid-1960's). My dad sang along with it the first time we played it.
What a rare treat to see. Before Ross Bagdasarian's greatest creation, Alvin & the Chipmunks. The only original David Seville song that I've heard was "Witch Doctor" from the soundtrack album of the Chipmunks' new movie. That was until now.
thats because that is the actual guy who later did the chipmunks..
btw this is the b-side of the 45 single the a-side was the witch doctor.. (I have it)
The witch doctor (and with bird on my head also released before the chipmunks were created) the witch doctor was the song that gave David the idea to create the chipmunks.
he later re-recoded the witch doctor a second time with the chipmunks in the song I mean in their voices.. they talked through and sang the song
@Chipmunks3Chipettes yes, nearly everyone who is a David Seville or Chipmunks fan knows that his real name was Ross Bogdasarian. sadly he died in 1972, but his son Ross Bogdasarian Jr. carries on his work.
Never heard this one before! I also never really knew what Ross Bagdasarian Sr., aka David Seville, looked like until I saw these pictures. He looked quite a bit like a young Jack Webb, didn't he?
Thanks for a really old memory. Impossible to find is putting it mildly. This was David's follow-up to 1958's "Witch Doctor", before he struck gold with the Chipmunks.
I always liked this song. I have it on 45 somewhere....

I had this song in 1958. I am Don, living in Georgia. Would love to discuss the old songs, like " purple people eater". Superbibletar@yaho.com
