most hornlines usually do horn flashes by moving it side to side, it creates a cool visual effect from the stands.

when i played mellophone in high school, my section did an instrument up that was we bend down, and pull a pretend cord from between the lead pipe and the third valve slide, go to attention, then put the instrument up. it was a 4 count move to simulate starting a lawn mower. =P

It's basically a balancing act with your foot and a little nudge with the toe with a strong full leg kick. We've done it at IUP for a good 20 years now so the secret formula gets passed down. You'll just have to march here to find out
