i just learned about this earthquake that happened here in 1811-1812. Sense it was so long ago no1 new wat the hell was going on so they hit the ground praying. The earthquake registered a 8.0 on the Richter scale. thats powerful. A few things happened. For 1 it was so powerful the aftershocks lasted for months. It made the Mississippi river run backwards. There was liquid faction(makes sand blow up from the ground) and it was felt all along the east coast,and Boston.

@kajbocolts999 I'm not sure. I've always known there were minor fault lines along the east coast - in the past there have been strong quakes in New York and South Carolina. As for the one in Colorado I wasn't aware of any seismic activity there until today. Highly unlikely they're connected (Rocky Mountains would break up those seismic waves), but very much a bizarre coincidence!

Well gang, may has come and long gone and no catastrophe,as of yet that is. This is something that will happen,just when at this point is anybody's guess.

The 1811-1812 quake was powerful enough to relocate the Mississippi river by a couple of miles, leaving riverboats stranded in now open fields.

Some of these River Queens have been found in farmland as far as five miles from the nearest water source larger than a pond.

Good treasure hunting in them too.

Christmas Eve 2010 earthquake in Puerto Rico came with a sound of explosion then the movement seemed like a washing machine in the drying cycle.

@jlaurie99 Yes, I saw that in the news. The USGS however, was quick to dispel that report, stating that the overwhelming majority of seismic activity came from the New Madrid Seismic Zone.

I knew that I was sleepy but I didn't understand why the couch was shaking beneath me. O.o
