  • could you tell me where you get your steel from?

  • @xXSTEWART13Xx

I could mate. But I get it from an aussie supplier. So if you were to get it from him...It would cost you more in postage then what the steel is worth. Go and email my mate Scott. His Youtube name is ~ bassfuryvi ~ He is in the UK. Tell him I sent ya. He should be able to help you better than me. But if you REALLY want my aussie suppliers name, let me know. But its really not worth it for you. Stick with what info Scott gives ya. Keep me posted. Best of luck. Rob.

  • You put me to sleep dude, can you possible speak any fucking slower?

  • Nice knife , interesting watching how you go about it , I'm a wood turner by addiction myself . Camping and fishing are the other addictions . ? pat drill did you use while drilling the blade mate .

    Rodney .

  • @roodeny1

Hi Rodney...what do you mean by What Drill?

Make of drill?...Drill bit type?...Drill bit size?....?

    Rob

  • @RDPproject Sorry what type of drill bit you used hss or cobolt etc and the drill size of the bolster holes would be nice thank you .

  • It sure would help if you would Number you episodes and get your number 5 episode posted to the menu bar to the right . That way I could go right to 1,2,3,4,5,6-a,6-b when ever I want to review.

  • @rjsahadi

Al of my episodes are numbered. Look at the title.

I have no control on what YT post in the section on the right. The easies way to watch a series of videos is to go to the persons channel page. Bring it up in grid patter, right click and open the video series in new tabs. Watch one while the others are loading.

  • Just as well you saved that brass! Well done M8!

  • @pureprotea1

    Yeah...worked out good

    Rob

  • be carefull not to grind away your fingertip, i did the mistake to do that once and it is hard to feel during the grinding but i promisse you will feel it later.

  • What kind of wood would be ideal for knife handels? Any kind. I have

    almond wood would that work?

  • @gordogreen

I have never used Almod wood so I could not tell you.

But for handle scales and full handles I personally would use hard woods. They dont dent as easily and last longer than soft woods.

    Rob.

  • I like x-cut scales very much, in fact, I plan similar for my next project, but I think that wood must be stabilized for that. Have you stabilized your scale wood (an how)?

And, yes, the music is great!

  • @mirkosrndovic

No...i dont do that with my wood.

There are plenty of websites and videos on the net that will show you how.

    Just go and google it.

  • not only is the gear good looking and interesting to watch being built, your cinematography is very good....

Bummer your out of work mate!....the result of our state induced recession sucks!...

i was off for 8 months and never thought id be back at work!

    Keep it up mate!

  • @switchest26

    Thanks MJ.

Yeah...hopefully it wont be long until im working again.

  • Hi Robert, your choice of an end grain timber scale for this knife, that you have put so much work into, is very prone to problems. The length of wood fibers is very short making it inherently weak and likely to eventually fail, particularly if it is not stabilised. If you wanted to change direction and use long grain timber I could send you some quality knife scales that might be suitable. I'll post them to you free of charge if you want to use them. Let me know if you are interested. Regards.

  • @labrat7357

    Thanks mate.

I have already ordered new wood for it. All will be updated in the next video.

    Thx for the offer tho.

  • Rob, you obviously have great skill and work ethic and pride. This is coming along really nice! That bronze find was really good luck too! Hopefully the economy turns around and you find work. Did you do physical work or office work before?

  • @traderjoes

    Thanks mate.

I have never worked in an office. I could say that what I did is

mostly Public Relations (of sorts) dealing with the worst society

    can throw at us

  • @RDPproject This kind of detail and working with power tools would probably by handy to a iron works, a mechanic or a furniture manufacturer. You can show the examples of your hobby as a resume of sorts :) Good luck!

  • @traderjoes

Yeah. I actually have my Youtube address on my CV.

Im about to go to bed now.

Just gotta get my next video started on uploading.

    Rob

  • Woooh you're getting close. What is that water you're using to polish?

Today I found a natural nagura stone to send to you. You can use that to polish!

But I'm pretty sure you'll display it. lol

  • @TheRitchiePowell

    WOW!

Really!? Are you sure?....I am getting a new (secondhand) Katana in a few

weeks. It is only chinese made...but its a live blade and i am thinking about giving the blade a polish. Just depends on what stones I can get here in Oz. They are not cheap. If you are sending me a

natural nagura stone....that would REALLY help me out alot.

I should probably tell you now then.

The Para-cord bracelet im sending you. Im not sending you one.

I am sending you 3 of them. :-)

  • @TheRitchiePowell

    Oh...sorry....

Its soapy water. It helps to keep the slurry on top of the stone and also makes it easier to clean afterwards. Much better than normal water.

  • I hope to see the finished knife! Don't hurry! Take all your time Rob and thank you ! Mike

  • @torquefactory

Thanks Mike. A new video will be uploaded soon about a knife

    that im about to ebay.

    Stay tuned.

  • ooohhh..great looking knife ..on the subject of getting there slowly..my um..sharp things are done when I can get out in the workshop..BUT with the days in between..thoughts..chance findings(the brass etc,) do make an appearance which allows the knife to evolve rather than getting churned out in record time..slow and steady makes for a knife born,, not just cut out and sharpened..regards Rob!!

  • @bassfuryvi

    Food for thought there mate.

    Thx Scott.

  • nice kinife buddy!

  • @Killahofosho

    Its getting there mate.

    Slowly...but It is getting there.

  • nice stone work Rob, looking foward to you shaping the brass( I'll be taking notes) and I'm hearin ya about the $, do I spend $37on a carbide drill or do I eat.?Until next episode:)

  • @faranglaw

Hey BJ. You two still in oz?

  • @RDPproject Yes, still here ,we've accepted an offer and waiting on their bank to give them a thumbs up so we can get a holding deposit, just playin the waitin game :( and it's been a long game and I'm almost ready for the "padded room" ;)

  • nice job, shame abt the bark, it looked so cool with the dark/light contrast!

  • @cam131313cam

    Yeah...it did. ...oh well

    *shrugs shoulders*

  • hey y dont u apply for a youtube partnership? i can make a decent amount of money from the ads they put on ur videos and it helps ur channel grow thus bringing in more money =] u should think about it... alot of people make a living off of youtube

  • @dr09294

Thought about it mate. But I dont get enough views at the moment.

    And I really hate ad's.

  • @RDPproject lol dont we all hate them... but theyr not soo bad when u get paid for them =P and u have more than enough... min is 10,000 channel views and 100,000 video views... u pass the min requirements i realy think u should do it

  • I cant wait to see the finished product Rob!

and best of luck getting a job!

  • @ShawnStoepker

G'day Shawn. Long time no chat.

    Thx mate.

  • Looking really good Rob...

  • @bushcraftbartons

    Thank you Mike.

I do try to look after myself....the knife isnt bad either ey?

    LOL....

  • It's looking very nice, Your knowledge of blades really shows. The sharpening technique was fascinating to see.

  • @phrayzar

Thx mate. Did you enjoy Koh Phi Phi?

I think thats where Cory and Steph from SMP Films went to on their honeymoon.

    'I think'

  • looking good. what kind of wood is that?

  • @27dcx

Dammit!...I knew someone would ask that...grrr.

Sorry...its just that ive forgotten the name of it....lol

I think it was Acacia Argyrodendron.

Common name: Australian Black Gidyea or Blackwood

  • @RDPproject well whatever it is it looks good!

  • hehe.. Sharpening :) That natural curve as you extend your hand is how people have been putting nice convexes on blades for so many hundreds of years.. its the perfect method for stone convexing.. I rock my body too.. especially on the belt sander when I want clean bevels.

Can I ask, is there any reason you choose to do so much by hand rather than doing it on the belt sander?

Its looking very good. I love how the concentric circles are going to polish up.

  • @knivesandstuff

Im just slowly polishing to reduce the scratches.

Nothing more really. Because its a Scandi grind it could be f**ked up

    by high speed belts.

  • Looking forward to seeing how this works out. Man the bark falling off like that ... I could feel your pain. But it seems like it it going to work out better. Funny how that can happen.

  • @EconoChallenge

Yeah I didnt even notice the bark at the start.

But hey!....this new idear...just may work.

  • @thecustomart11

    Thanks Max.

Which pants...the AusCam or my black ones?

    I know..the AusCam right....lol

  • Excellent! Always love your videos!

How is that possible that you upload 14 minutes video??

  • @PinewoodCH

Youtube has now increased the video play time to 15mins :-)

  • Interesting idea with the tree.

  • @suvarak

    Spasibo Timu

  • @coachace123

    Thank you Coach.

  • Great vid I learn something new everytime i watch your vids so next time i make a knive it will turn out a little better. Thanks and greetings from Texas, Joe Garza.

  • @EDINBURGSTAR

Great...thats why I like filming the process. To hopefully

    pass on some knowlege.

    Thanks Joe.

  • Fantastic work Rob, ...so good that I have no words. Not even in German : ) Regards Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk

    Vielen Dank Sepp.

Ihr Messer ist jetzt in die Post. Ich hoffe, Sie finden es nützlich.

  • Brilliant Rob, shame about the bark on the wood but it seems like you have come up with a great solution. Just goes to show, its worth keeping hold of scraps. Great job my friend, looking forward to the next episode.

  • @ColinOutdoors

    Yeah....thanks Colin.

The next part may not be for a while yet. Im taking it easy with this knife.

  • nice video!
