  • This is an old version of "Better with the lights off"

  • Geez... I was less than two months old when this was recorded...

  • @roughman998 As Myna Loy says in one of the Thin Man movies.... I wasn't even a gleem in my father eye ! lol

  • @Dayniac4324 My father wasn't even a gleem in his father's eye!

  • @roughman998 As Myna Loy says in one of the Thin Man movies.... I wasn't even a gleem in my father's eye ! lol

  • @Dayniac4324

Well, I guess age is the price of expierience...

BTW, this song is on Day's "Cocktail Hour" CD; I ordered it at Amazon.

  • @roughman998 I have that ... its a good cd. This is also on The Complete Doris Day with Les Brown. Also a good cd set.

  • @Swingsation65 me too

  • Great! Just heard this version on XM's 40's station. Anybody have the discogrphy on this recording? iTunes doesn't have it....

  • I don't care for her politics or acting ability, but she had a beautiful voice

  • @1948timothy Happy you enjoy her singing ! She has a great voice.

  • @BeatlesGirl707 I feel your pain lol I tell my mom that all the time

  • @BeatlesGirl707 Well - I was closer to those times. Born in the 50's but wish I was born in the 30's so I could have really enjoyed the music of the 40's and 50's as it was happening ! I love the 40's !!

  • @BeatlesGirl707 oh my god me too. :/ i absolutely love those times. i was born in 1996. sucks for me because im stuck and inlove with 1930s-1940s and the 60s. :/ quite a shame if i must say i hate it. i wish i lived back then.

  • @Swingsation65 Happy you enjoyed !!

  • i like the cover of sandra girl singing this song ,hers is better then the original 1 ,i think :L

  • @XxluizaxX1 no sandra sounds horriable! I can sing it better than her! Sorry if I offended anyone!

  • @BeatlesGirl707 I know what you mean. It's funny - I was born in the 50's and wish I'd been born earlier ! Too young to really enjoy the 50's and enjoy the 40's music and movies second hand. Oh well .. at least we can do that !!

  • :) This song is constantly stuck in my head and I love it! I'm only 14 and I think more kids my age should be listening to this kind of music rather than the crap they play on the radio!

  • @themisfitmoustache This song gets stuck in my head quite often too !! =)

I'm with you ... I wish more people would listen to this kind of music. But - meeting

younger people that enjoy it gives me hope !! =)

  • @Dayniac4324 haha well we need more hope in this world!

  • @themisfitmoustache Thats for sure ! If there's one thing Doris embodies it's positive thinking ...and a few others like happiness and making the best of what life deals you. Her son said she was great at moving on and living in the now. We could all learn a few things from her. Hope you can get a few more of your friends to enjoy some of this good music !! =)

  • im 16 and i love 40s music wish we could go back in time

  • @TigersRule4ever I'm with you there.... its great you enjoy this great music !!

  • @TigersRule4ever Me too! I am 20 ;)

  • @TigersRule4ever I'm 15 and I feel the same as you. :D

    YAY!

  • @14KaylaMarie It's so great to find out younger people enjoy this great music .. as I've said before ... there's hope for us yet !! =)

  • @TigersRule4ever I'm 13 and I love 40s music too

  • @MMfan1997 I'm so happy to hear there are young people that enjoy this great music !! It sure gives me hope for this old world !!! =) I will repeat my commnet to tigersrule ..... you give me hope !!!

  • @Dayniac4324 I loved 40s music ever since I was 8, and I started to love classic movies when I was 10 and then I started to like John Wayne,Marilyn Monroe,Jane Russell,Doris Day, and etc

  • @MMfan1997 I started my love of classic movies when I was a little kid too ! Love them to this day. Movies today can't compare as far as I'm concerned.

  • @Dayniac4324 I totally agree hollywood ran out of idea and they are making remakes of Bye Bye Birdie and footloose, how sad?

  • @MMfan1997 I know ... and you know ... most of the remakes are not good !! What a waste of money ! I'd rather watch the old ones any day !

  • @Dayniac4324 me too

  • @MMfan1997 They're so much better !! =)

  • @Dayniac4324 yes they are! :)

  • @TigersRule4ever I'm so happy to hear there are young people that enjoy this great music !! It sure gives me hope for this old world !!! =)

  • @TigersRule4ever Yeah, I really miss jim crow, the red scare, total segregation of people with disabilities (no ADA), getting drafted, incredibly strict gender roles for both men and women but also a general lack of rights for women, nazism, and christianity being totally equated with basic human morality.

  • When you hear her singing, you know that is what you hearing. There is pure talent. Not a computer editing program...

  • When you hear her singing, you know that is what you hearing. There is pure talent. Not a computer editing program...

  • @Temperanceshark2015 Yes... this is pure talent. Have to agree with you there. There aren't any computer enhancements. I think there was real talent in those days. Some of the things I hear today .. I'm not sure what I'm listening to .. a person or a computerized song !

  • wow what happend to the good music of the fortys i grew up in the 80's and i love all the old stuff like this it was so pure and wholesome i cant stand the f this and f that and what is this stuff they call music with people just spitting words that is no music that is just a bunch of idiots just talking real fast or screaming in to a micrapohone i wish i grew up in the fortys the times were so much better music wise

  • @1024mrmatt Well ... I really have to agree with you ! I love your description of todays music ... so true !

I really love movies and music from the 40's ... my favorite era. Really happy you enjoyed this one... its one

of my favorites !! Thank you !!

  • so i'm a teenager wish i lived in the forties! i love the culture, music, hard work and honest ways of life i hear about... wish i was older lol

  • @knut12ss I think I would have loved to live in the 40s too. They were hard sad times ... but as you said many things were better than today. =)

  • @knut12ss I think I would have loved to live in the 40s too. They were hard sad times ... but as you said many things were better than today. Morals seemed to be much higher. =)

  • Love how back then they CAN actually sing real LYRICS

  • @Afraid0fGhosts Yes... and you can actually understand what they're saying !

  • i would pay 473523636676576 $ just for a week in 1947 or 1948 :( too bad i was born in 2000.

  • @BubblysimsFilms I love it ... I've always thought I should have been born much earlier... I feel so at home with the 1930's and 1940's. Some really tough times but it still feels like home to me. I guess we'll have to enjoy those years through movies and music !!

  • @BubblysimsFilms lol I was born 1990 lol I still wish I would be born In 1935 and grown up in that time period.

  • @callos1232 I know just how you feel ! Feel the same way. =)

  • @BubblysimsFilms You're 10/11?! Do you realize how old you just made me feel?! XDD

  • @xXprettyxkittyXx :P Most kids my age don't even CARE about History. It makes me sad :(

  • @BubblysimsFilms That is sad. I started watching movies from the 30's and 40's when I was a kid and have always loved those era's. I still love those movies.. in fact thats about all I watch !!

  • @Dayniac4324

The Dear America Series is my Refuge :D (it's a series of historical Diaries)

  • @BubblysimsFilms I'm not familiar with that. Can you tell me about it ?

  • @Dayniac4324

    wikipedia (dot) org/ wiki / Dear_America

  • @BubblysimsFilms Thank you ... I'll check that out. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season ! =)

  • @Dayniac4324

    You Too! :)

  • @BubblysimsFilms You're the only person your age that I've seen use complete sentences! You weren't meant to be you're age!!!!

  • Anyone else notice how perfect her teeth are for that decade?

  • @thephotogguru Yes they are beautiful ... except if you look at her photo's closely .. one of her front ones is just a tiny bit crooked and as Kaye Ballard said - she has the "cutest little buck teeth." If you've seen the caricature for the Brown Derby, drawn very early in her career ... the artist has huge buck teeth in it. Not a very nice drawing in my viewpoint. I think she looks lovely with her cute little buck teeth. She's quite a beautiful lady !

  • Greetings everyone,

How are you's today ? Never forget that anything can be possible only if you believe in it with all your heart and soul. If you wish you can visit my channel to hear me sing. Thank You and Best Luck, Sandra xox

Ever hear Charlie Barnet "Cement Mixer"? ..... I think this is Adam Sandler, and he is much older than he claims to be!! =D

  • @nj08094 I haven't heard that .. but it sounds pretty interesting ... could Adam have been around that long ?? hahaha !!

  • @nj08094 - my channel just might cover the music you like, with 270 playlists for artists like Charlie Barnet, Billy May & Tony Mottola. 111 more lists cover every year since 1900 so I just added this to 1947.

My great thanks to Dayniac for all the info!!!

  • @chkjns I will certainly check out your channel ... sounds very interesting !! Thank you !

  • i love this. i normally am not wild about doris day but this is wonderful. she has such a hot presence here that seems to have turned into silly sexless cartoon doris later on.

  • @redenamel Happy you like this one ... don't know agree with your assessment of Doris... but .. to each his own. She has much wonderful music to discover and

enjoy. Hope you'll give her another chance and listen to some of her great music catalog.

  • There sounds like some vocal commotion in the background at 2:33. Hear it?

  • @ddactyl ???? I didn't but .. don't know.

  • @Dayniac4324 The pianist, maybe? He was doing that right hand riff (behind "one kiss will"....) and maybe something didn't please him for a split second and he groaned cause it was such a fine take happening and they let it go cause it really is such a fine take. What an imagination I have....

  • TFP! I wonder who the musicians on this session were.

  • @ddactyl I will post that info in the notes. I've been trying to put that info on one video a day .. so I'll do this one today. You can look above. Thanks !

  • @Dayniac4324 Wow, thanks, thanks, thanks!!!! What a terrific recording, and Ms Day knocked my proverbial socks off as a chanteuse here.

  • @ddactyl You're welcome. When I put some of these songs on I didn't have all the info. I've been trying to add it. I really love this recording !
