  • Amazing...Powerfull...

  • apart from the sound quality, a good interpretation of saint-saens, who does not get enough credit these days. btw, is this a liszt transcription?

  • this is transcribed by Ernest Guiraud for 2 pianos 8 hands...

  • liszt's transcription for his dear friend saint saens

    is for one hand only

  • Pretty good. One of the best piano dance song ever.

  • awsome!!!!!

  • this song is used in the efteling

  • masterlijk

  • omg this is soo cool! I listened to it like, 15 times! I'm soo excited because I'm playing this song for my recital!!!!

  • by Ernest Guiraud I think. You can find it on the imslp website. Good luck!

  • by Ernest Guiraud I think. You can find it on the imslp website. Good luck!

  • this is like a piano face off

  • it sounds like a halloween song...

  • i think it is its translated to "Dance of the Dead" Im playing an easy version of it for a recital its like 1 minute long though :)

  • cause its in minor

  • we used to sing it in music class in grade school. "H A double L O, W double E N spells halloween"

  • TRRROOOOOOOOOOOOPPP JE VEUT LA FAIRE

  • amazing. not just a song, but a masterpiece. i can't even tell who's playing what part, the synchronization is so good...

  • I Love It!

  • to ALL:

this is not a SONG, this is a PIECE.

thanks to yashil17 for speaking in favour of the composer.

does anyone know who arranged it for 2 pianos/8 hands?

    thanks

  • yes!!

  • if im not wrong, my friends are playing this with 4 hands, almost exactly the same version but minus the chords where it's impossible to be played by 10 fingers. am in love with this piece!

  • Déjà un très beau travail, mais c'est vrai pour le petit manque de nuances et de montées dynamiques, cela devrait partir beaucoup plus piano et le tempo peut s'assouplir dans certains passages, sinon, c'est une "course macabre"!

  • Not enough interpretation or dynamics.

Dynamics are a very important part of this song, and it's what they are lacking most.

  • I agree that the orchastrated version sounds better, but I think this still sounds amazing, despite lacking the relationship between the different instruments.

  • This is my shit..i listen 2 this lik everyday..Great Piece

  • i listen to it everyday 2 its awesome

  • great!!*****

  • Le pouvoir sonore des pianos à queue est parfaitement adaptés à la danse macabre

  • wow cool

  • fantastique bravo !!!!

  • Holy shit... I've never heard a piano version of this song... at least with 4 people involved. It sounds amazing. =D

  • aye it was the piano version that made it so popular

thank god liszt saw the genius in it

  • Possibly the best I've ever heard this piece played. Beautifully done. Hats off, I imagine the amount of practice it took was ridiculous.

  • TOO FAST

  • excelent!!!

  • can the person who have posted this PLEASE POST THE COMPOSERS NAME, CAMILE SAINT SAENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is it that hard, please RESPECT THE COMPOSER BY POSTING THEIR NAMES AT LEAST

  • Oh relax! This is a famous enough song to not need to add the composer. On youtube the related videos are filled with credits. Get a grip!

  • i know that ppl know the composer, but it's the fact that ppl should RESPECT (ever heared of it?) the composer. u get a grip

  • Camille Saint-Saëns

If you're going to bitch about it spell it right.

  • being a bitch about it?

look i'm trying to tell others to respect the composer by the easiest way by writing, or saying their name, is that too hard?

i hate ppl who don't like jerry yc, who ruined Johann Christophe Pachelbels great canon und d-dur, and this is what i'm called for trying to respecet the great composer Camille Saint Saens. and plus it's always the last name that's important to know and to respect, douch

  • I said "if you're going to bitch" as in "whine and moan" dear. Sorry, I forgot it was English slang.

    P.S. It's still spelt "Camille Saint-Saëns"

  • ya i'm not trying to whine or groan i might look like a bitch but i'm trying to tell others to respect the composer, and i have done this alot. and in the last comment i meant to say "i hate ppl who like jery yc"

  • Well in fact, if every time you heard Saint-Saëns played it was anounced, you would soon get sick of hearing it, for example, when you are on hold on the telephone to Bank of America and London Electricity; and others.

    .

Aren't you seventeen or something anyway - just you wait; m'dear.

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • do u mean getting sick of hearing the composers name or getting sick of the song itself?

  • People keep posting comments about how this piece was performed "robotic" or "inhumanly". Well I hate to break it to you but that's how its SUPPOSED to be performed. It's the Dance of Death. This song represents death calling forth the dead from they're graves with his fiddle at the stroke of midnight. So please don't say "it's because they're asian" or some crap like that. This song should be played as inhumanly and as disturbingly as possible.

  • I agree, the Danse Macabre is a marvelous piece of music, especially so when performed in such style!

  • GirlCort, your observation is SPOT ON.

  • the best and creepiest version listened so far, better than the organ and orchestral

  • this sounds fantastic! great version :D

  • Awesome with four people on it! Sounds great!

  • I like this song a lot.....everyone on here who has something to say about the fact that the people have no expression are complete and total ignoramouses! I think that this is probably one of the best performances of this piece that I have heard. And even if a group of Asian people does play robotically they will still beat you out at anything that you do.

  • i admit their good, but i don't appreciate you stereotyping Asians like that

  • sounds pretty. in a creepy sort of way.

    beautiful :]

  • Delightful.

  • Was this performed at juilliard? I saw a performance there spring of 2006, I think we may have seen this then..

  • This is an amazing arrangement. I've never seen it for two pianos.

  • needs more contrast between the different themes

  • WOW!! Very impressive job on such a difficult piece.

  • have you noticed all of them are asian

  • ASians are quite interested in Western classical music. The problem is that they are taught to play exactly as written with absolutely no interpretation or deviation. Once broken from this mold they do very well. This piece is well done, exciting.

  • I so totally agree. It sounds good but there's no personal interpretation or 'fire'. I think that they need a wake up call.

  • I can't believe our school band actually attempted to play this song. It sounded nothing like this.

  • 4 pianists, 2 painos, sinply Amazing!!

  • That was amazing! I loved it!

  • love to hear that song on halloween

  • We played this at a smmer camp called GHP, which has the best 8 pianists in Georgia.. it was phenonenal. This kids did a good job, but they need to bring out the melody. It is incredibly difficult! So nice to hear is on duo-piano though.

  • I love this song I want to learn to play it but I'm just middle class piano player.

  • WOW!! These kids look so young, and they play is beautifully! I've heard this in school from my music teacher, and WOW, that was a CD and this is real! I love the melody, but i absolutely adore the harmony! Good job to all four of them, and I hope they go on to bigger and better things!

  • There were some mistakes, but god, they play it good! They look so young! Unbeliveble how to pianos can play so intens and great insted of an orkestra..

    Wow!

  • i learnt this at school, farnborough.death on his violin,zig-a-zig-a-zig and the cock has crowed and all that.yeas, ive heard it so many times before.

  • how do i get the piece of this music?

  • Yes, they could have used more emotions, but don't forget, everything else was very good. FYI, comments like "You suck," or "Thanks for ruining my favorite piece" says absolutely nothing and might as well not have been said at all. A good comment sould read: 1. Something GOOD, 2. Improvement, 3. Encouragement.

  • These kids don't look that old and should be respected for at least tackling this piece. It's true, they could play with more emotion, but, believe it or not, it's hard to play w/ emotion at that age because the public school system stifels your creativity. And the fact that they're probably only high schoolers and everyone seems to be criticizeing them as if they were professionals should say something about them.

  • You really are an idiot. Lacing your post with thinly veiled racist remarks reveals you as a true southerner. And by the way, the surname Cheung is Chinese and not Japanese. Each one of these kids have done a fantastic job on this piece and for you to criticise is completely baseless.

  • You clearly are.

They made this piece sound beautiful.

  • I'm still saying they sounded like robots. I've heard this played hundreds of times whether it was an orchestra, marching band, piano, or organ. This is not a good performance. Accurate, yes. Musical, almost.

  • Your on the wrong website, yes they are but what does it matter?

  • Well sorry you're not the best in sentence structure either where are your capitals? Racist!

  • I was thinking that when I wrote It, but I don't care.

  • For gods sakes, stop arguing about a stupid song and who played it, does it really matter? besides, race means nothing. It all depends on the person's ability to improve their skill.

  • Obviously you have no appreciation of music whatsoever. If you think that race or nationality is an indication of skill, then you really are even more stupid than you sound.

And arguing over spelling? Excuse me if i hurt your precious feelings, but that is just SO childish.

A piece of advice? Go get a life, and let the people who actually appreciate music enjoy the video without being disturbed by your downright immature comments.

  • ur just jelous of "asians" because u suck at lots of things, if u think u know so much about "asians" then i suppose u could name some countries in asia. it's an ashame that ur giving ur race up by saying this racist comment of urs, this is sad coming from a person who listens to classical music. ur probly thinking that orientals r better than Franz Liszt or Fredric Chopin, who FYI were and r one of the best pianists in the world.

  • I gave this a thumbs up by accident. You are actually a scumbag.

  • Ppl like him will never be a good musican, they'll only be a slave for orientals, they say "HEIL MY LORD" to every asian they see in the futur

  • This would have been a lot better had they played with emotion. The whole piece just seems rushed.

  • its actually only based upon the poem not composed for the poem

  • amazing performance, but would be better on boesendorfers than yamahas. yamahas sound so brittle.

  • Wow...the rarely performed ORIGINAL version. A great youtube find! Tompw3111 and lentoadagio you are mistaken. The orchestration came later. And this is not the Liszt version for one player, which was also later.

  • allow me to correct you. The orchestra version was the first, but when it came to premiere the critics were poor and so Saint-Saens decided to make a piano version with a help of Lizst a good friend of Saint-Saens. Later Volodos a skilled pianist make some changes in the play this is why some videos have this title "Saint-Saens/Litz/Volodos"

  • No, Tiagoerg, allow to me to correct YOU.

    From //imslp DOT org/wiki/

The first version of this piece was a song composed in 1872 to poetry by Henri Cazalis (1840-1909) entitled Le Danse Macabre. Saint-Saëns expanded this into the famous symphonic poem two years later. Liszt's virtuoso piano transcription dates from 1875 or 1876.

I, in fact, knew it was first composed as a song. I didn't want to cloud the issue with that.

  • thanks for correcting me Salmagundiii.

  • forget that right before Volodos change Horowitz was one of the piece changers in a new a adaption of piano.

  • I wish to point out that I knew that Liszt version wasn't the original... I was making a joke about difficult Liszt can be.

My favourite rendition is a version for the organ, but this is still an impressive performance.

  • That was cool :)

  • where is the REAL ORCHESTRATED PEICE!!!!

  • lol no i was talking about the orchestrated version...guess that wasn't clear

  • im playing this with my friend, but only as duet, and not as good as that and only the start bit

    i wanna learn it all!!

  • I got this on player piano roll.... It's my favorite piece

  • Inspiring! Great talents.

  • Liszt: so difficult it requires four human beings to play.

    Seriously, though... very cool :-)

  • C'est Magnifique

  • Damn, that's amazing!

  • Wow. Just...wow. This is awesome!

  • Almost perfect there were a few mistakes...but who cares! Who needsd strings?!?!

  • Ehm, there are string inside the piano mate. :P

  • how cool is this :)
