I Love Asimo. He's a real robot, unlike robots that look human. As art imitates life and life imitates art, the lonely people in the world will have a artificial friends who's family will out smart the humans with their amazing ability and mental telepathy and take over the world and condemn us to a matrix. Who needs war when you have a matrix. But that's just one negative or positive scenario depending on whether your human or robot. I'm sure they'll just build better means of transportation :)
As an American,I can understand the accusation that we research weapons a lot. But our primary goal really is saving energy.
Our weapons research is to protect us and other countries like Italy,Japan,South Korea,Britain, and many others from threatining forces like Afghanastan and North Korea.
@daniglue This American wants to go into Robotics, but sadly I do think even the most benign of technical gadgets are researched for war purposes. That is true regardless of the country.
you need to connect him wirelessley to a SUPERCOMPUTER. IF U SEE HIM CLIMBING OR DESCENDING STAIRS HE IS SLOW AT CALCULATING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. sorry about caps cba to change it now.
@AmericanPowerBase Honda has long been one of the leaders in robotics especially for its fluidity of control. I dont believe artificial intelligence is really portrayed in this clip, and more the case of fluid motion control.
@AmericanPowerBase It is when you need to work out the interaction between the robot, the work area, the task at hand the audience and others, all as variables that the robot remembers, adapts (ranked neural pathways) and transitions accordingly (** with negligible lag**), is when we then see artificial intelligence come into play.
@AmericanPowerBase Saying that it is not complicated to determine key elements of a set environment thus forming a specific algorithm/s to analyse the response of the orchestra and audience i.e. musical note, musical amplitude, audience clap frequency and directions... edge detect...and and and.
However needless to say I strongly believe it would be a set program. It would not be logical in this case to use artificial intelligence to perform this task (processing power vs cost vs task) though an ideal intelligent robot would do the job well.
@AmericanPowerBase It would be difficult so surmise accurately what is or isnt the control of the robot unless your involved with it. Studies do involve robots that mimic human motion in real time, yet this would most likely be the focus (with the human conductor being visible); another area of important research.
To be honest. People are developing software that is intellegant although we already have it, they learn and then report back to a database which then they can keep that information. Its going to come to a point where they will realise humans are the problem of the earth and will eventually screw us all. Something to be scared of ? Nah, EMP !

It is bullshit. My wife was in band and she claims they aren't following his conducting at all. Tempo, directions to stop, pretty much everything he did was wrong. If they wanted to impress us with their "amazing" robot, honda should make sure he knows what he is doing.
I'd have thought most of conducting is in the facial expression and eye contact - his hands seem to do the right thing, but unlike a real conductor, he doesn't look at different sections of the orchestra or have a face to communicate emotions to the orchestra. I think this is more of an amusing gimmick than anything else (but very cool!)
@daniglue American's only being interested in war is a common misconception. You're making a generalization of over 300 million people. gotta have many computers interpreting data in many different ways to create AI, as well as have a storage of data that it can compare incoming data to. just like a human brain, we see something, then compare it with past events. Still far in the future.

gotta have many computers interpreting data in many different ways to create AI, as well as have a storage of data that it can compare incoming data to. just like a human brain, we see something, then compare it with past events. Still far in the future.

That's astonishing. It's amazing what we can acomplish with such awesome technology...

feels like they have been giving Asimo a bunch of pointless animations instead of improving its AI...

ASIMO does so many things, except for anything actually useful for a robot to do.

What's the point of a conductor? Musicians can play without them. Asimo has alot of conductors though.
