@kernals12 Well, you didn't,Russia crumbled by itself,it started doing that way before the Tchaika was built, because of corruption. The only thing the USA did with comunism is lose a massive war against, cough Vietnam cough.
And if you-re talking about WW2,The Russians killed the nazi's and took half of Europe, meanwhile America spent billions educating Japaneese kids at Yale then sending them back home. That worked out great for you guys.
you can see elements of the new top gear in this i think its a shame though that andy wasnt a presenter in it or at least had some sort of recurring role in it, id love to have seen him and jezza arguing over a car on the cool wall
"The people weren't given any engineering knowledge"....yeah, the audience that's supposed to swallow this is definitely missing something, and maybe even from birth.
Oh please. There was nothing wrong with Soviet cars. As if British Leyland stuff was any better, or British Ford and Vauxhalls of the same era or the junk USA cars of the 70's-80's. Infact I Bet the Soviet stuff was more reliable and all these Skoda and Lada jokes were just ways of stopping people buying Soviet cars. If they are so bad then why are there millions of them still running in eastern bloc, cuba and around the world. Why are old skodas still in rallies.
The reason they still use them in eastern-bloc countries is because most cant afford a new car, so they do anything to keep them going. They are like Paykans, except in Europe
Really, why do we need to even have cars? a nice running public transportation system, subways, and bullet trains should be all you need. Much more efficient and cheaper, than some stupid car.
I would understand the point of horrible cars like this if it meant that everyone could own a car.
But in fact the commies failed to achieve even that.
East Germany for example didn't just have worse cars than the west (and huge waiting lists if you wanted one), they also had less cars per citizen than the west!
I wonder what Karl Marx would say about this, if he lived today....
6:41 Hang on a second - what the f...k is this man talking about? In soviet times, I reckon, people knew a lot more about cars' insides - they knew them inside out! I live in this damned country and I sometimes get a feeling that majority of people of older generation were f...king automechanics!
they aren't so bad... take ladas for instance... they are so primitive as kalasnikov and they are cheap to maintain... at least where I live... (a head gasket costs about 5$, a rear brake cylinder 4$)
East European cars are often bad.. Or indestructable, but nothing in between. Still I like them. Maybe it's for their quirkyness.. I don't know. But I think it's their simple, rugged honesty that attracts me somehow.
@REPOMAN24722 my father one time, drive volga, for one travel (up to 800km distance). . after that he sleeping 3 days continuously, from tiredness xD xD xD xD LOL LO LOL OO LOLL god damned russian tech ahhahahhahahahahahahah lololo
@multiyabadabadoo They are reliable, my uncle drove a lada samara reliable but its electrics were screwed, brake lights were reverse lights and reverse lights were red lights hahahahaha.
i agree with this vid. the former ussr cars didnt look good because they werent made to look good. the russians made them as simple as possible and as tough as they could. has anyone been in a village in rural russia? forget Toyota Hilux's and Land Rovers, the only cars that can drive in the russian wiinter are russian made cars
well the czech Tatra is a truly awesome car- both main v-8 rear engine ones-
which car was it again that made the body panels out of pressed wood pulp/pressboard mixed with resins? not moskvitch, anyone know? 2-stroke... oh yeah, the trabant -trabbies sucked, but not as bad as people think ZIL was just a packard copy, but nice , and the yugoslavian yugo has a undeserved rep, its just a fiat copy, and save for rusting easy , if you maintained them well, were no worse than uk/italy cheapos
A couple of Tatras there, they were fantastic cars for their time, shouldn't really be associated with the Lada.
