Enthusiastic driving indeed! Great winter shots with the exhaust hanging in the air and plenty of clag. A good variety of locations that seemed to demand a bit extra from the locos. I loved it and may have to watch it all again! Many thanks for sharing it with us.
Brought back some memories that footage,i worked on the footplate at bury 92-99 with 5029 being the first and last loco i fired.Odney was a cracker in the early days until suffering with blowing piston valves..great stuff.
A really fantastic video, they just don't drive them like that now on the ELR...and it's been a long time since us Lancashire-based GWR fans had any satisfaction :(
Truely great footage there!! Whatever the engine the ELR crew like to give it a run for its money. Love the Castle flying past Burrs. Looks more like express speeds rather than 25mph.
just a brilliant film, captured in all the right places, I use to go there in the 90s and walk the line, never needed a pass, Do you need one these days, just keep these films coming.
Thanks very much. They still don't issue passes and issued a statement asking people not to trespass after the gala in the Spring. When I went to the Winter gala I decided to film from the right side of the fence but nobody else seemed to, including some so called 'name' photographers
What a superb video Austin, thanks for delving into your archives to produce this cracking compilation and its amazing to see just how much things have grown. Regards Steve
Excellent compilation Austin, The sound and quality of video are superb to say it is possibly 15 + years old and some off the locations are hard to film at now due to the foliage growth. Very nice memories were does the time go!!
Thanks Phil, this was originally filmed in Super VHS and didn't transfer too badly. The shot I really miss at the ELR due to the foliage growth is the one from the hill above Summerseat, you used to get some nice light in the late afternoon there
This is one outstanding video. Great shooting locations, terrific engines, and the picture quality is amazing for the early 1990's. Number One on my favourites list. Thanks for persisting with the upload.
I've said before Austin, you don't get the spectacle now that was common place on preserved lines in the 90's and this encapsulated the whole ers brilliantly.....loved it....Bob
Thanks Andrew, can't beat a bit of Swindons finest you know! I'll see what I've got stashed away on the locos you mention. I know I've got footage of the Duchess in green
Another " epic" from you Austin. A pleasure to watch. Some great " volcanic" effects from the locos too. Loved the shot at 8.40 with 5224 with the sun on her. All the best....Tim.
Thanks Tim, an epic upload this was, took four days before it finally stopped crashing halfway through. The drivers seemed so much more prepared to put on a show back then
Cracking footage Austin. Oh what memories of intense action and lineside loactions that have now changed for ever. Certainly more aggressive driving styles back then.
Thanks Mike, I reckon we've seen the best times with some of the performances from the crews back in the 90's. I really miss that shot from up the hill at Summerseat

Thanks, I suppose there are many reasons why we don't see this sort of performance nowadays. Like you I'm glad to have enjoyed them while I could

Thanks very much, I agree with you that the Castle appeared to be going a little over the regulation 25mph!

Thanks, its true that we don't get that enthusiastic driving these days for lots of reasons. A shame but I'm glad to have seen some good performances

Brilliant, Austin - I'll bet you had a whale of a time? The weather was with you, this time, and you took full advantage of it! . . . . Alan

Thanks Alan, these scenes were filmed over a year or two in the 90's and of course, the weather was always better when we were younger!

Thanks for your reply, well it still seems its a fee for all, for them that think so.

Thanks Steve, its a shame the way the vegetation spoils so many views but I suppose thats part of the challenge now to look for somewhere new.
