heres a drill to help you keep your hands still while you start your downswing with your hips. grab a clothes hanger and put the bottom of the hanger on the shaft of your iron as your would if your were to hit it. the hook part of the hanger should be resting on your forearm and parallel with your when you are at the top of your backswing. do some full swings while trying to keep the hook part of the hanger parallel with your forearm for as long as possible and ,...
just one tip: start your takeaway in "one piece". noticed too much wrist action esp at 00:06, where you take the club too much on the inside, and open the club face. this is probably one cause of your "over the top downswing" when you try to over compensate.
try pausing halfway back (about hip height) and make sure that the butt of your club is parallel to your target line.
hi mate like you say backswing is fine, try feeling a slight pause at top and unwinding from the ground up, either the feeling of the left hip going 1st or the weight shifting to your left heel which should encourage the hands to come down on a more inside path which will feel strange to you and you may block some out but just turn through with upper body and feel the release of the right hand, shake hands with target :) try keep your head a tad steadier if possible. hope this helps mate.
It doesn't look as if your hips turn much in the backswing. you get a bit 'trapped' meaning the angle of attack on the downswing is a bit steep. at the top you're in a good position, wrist is a little cupped which=slightly open club face. downwing is fluid but a bit cramped, also try keeping your head in a sold position to strike more consistently. making more room for the path of the club by turning more with the hips will help set the club better in the backswing
Your downswing problem starts at the top of the swing. You are displaying the classic "over the top" move by starting your downswing with your hands. To fix this, feel like you are doing nothing with your hands at the top of your swing. Start your downswing with a bump of your hips and let your hands and arms follow the momentum. Hope this helps. I know it feels like you have to help the ball to make it go far but its quite the opposite.
@IMRACE Thanks a bunch! I see exactly what you're talking about too. Do you know of any drills or something i can do on the range to practice rotating my hips first?
and just to let you all know: i can't bring my camera to the golf course so that's why i'm recording a shot of my swing indoors. keep that in mind, and read the description please. thank you!
the hook part should be parallel with the ground at the moment of impact. sounds more complicated that it actually is. try it. hope it helps
