Sokolov is really intense.I'm surprised he isn't made more out of.when does he come to new york? His dminor pre is out of this world.everything he does is thinking and he is vital and present!
This Sokolov is truely a gem of a pianist. I am in agreement with his artistic sense all the way. My ideal piano playing is very near this real pianist.
I've noticed that many pianists as they get older, almost completely change and rethink their interpretations of pieces. Sokolov is especially one of those pianists. I've heard a recording of him playing this Sonata much faster (when he was younger) and am quite frankly not surprised he slowed it down here. I guess as Sokolov aged, he managed to find more in this Sonata than speed and blistering technique. It truly makes his performance more interesting and deeper.
There's Sokolov, and then there are all the rest.

His interpretations are differed by each performance, week by week.
