I think he was playing with a broken horn and he blew some awesome stuff landing right in the room with such a formidable rhythm section after one of his usual peroids of being under. Such was the magic of this great musician. I hope the film captures that.

With respect, shnaggletoother, how many years did Art Pepper spend in jail while he could have been recording and performing?
How much of his focus was centered on drugs rather than music, according to his bio which I read twice.
True, he recorded some great albums but I stand by my statement that this is a sad story of a wasted talent.

What a sad story. Art Pepper was one of my favorite jazz alto players and it seems like he wasted his great talent. Too bad.....
