Unless you drive diesel vehicle, if your car is running and your foot is off the gas then the gauge will read negative because you're making vacuum. Inch/hg is how much mercury the vacuum would suck up a tube. Boost happens when your engine is using more than 14.5 psi, 1 bar or air pressure at sea level. "boost" is actually measuring air pressure above 1bar.
@rosie684 Did you have to do any modification to the bezel for the gauges to fit? I read some comment about how the halo gauges might have you drilling holes in the aftermarket bezel, unlike the premium. I really don't think this is true, but I'd like your input on that. (2002 WRX, so same bezel as your's.)
@Jallandhara Not so much. Since it does have the little control on the side i did have to take a razer and just jot out a tiny part on the inside so the wire would go through nicely. The gauges themselves fit snug in there plus with the bracket on the backside they're not going anywhere
@rosie684 Thanks for the info. I bet the guy meant the hole was for routing the controller wire, I like the razor idea better, personally. I just ordered mine a couple minutes ago and I can't wait to get them. Do you have any gripes with them at all? Does the boost gauge needle move quickly enough?
@nordicjim As far as I know all boost gauges read in the negative. If it was at 0 then just tapping the gas would put me at boost. Turbo has to spool and buid up boost then once it surpasses 0 then you boosting.
