Adam is so spot on. I grew up in a nice rich household but now my father fell ill with an incurable illness while, I was in college and he is now poor due to several bad business decisions. I've never thought I was self-entitled to anything and I've worked myself from the ground up to be able to have nice things on my own. I'm 32 and cuz when I pull into Burger King cuz I drive an Acura TL people look at me strange like "Can I get a hand out." - Barry SMG -
It's interesting... I've heard Adam on 97.1 fm talk here in LA for his 8 years until top 40 took over, and now he broke free from that and is talking real ... Adam for president
Adam Carolla is my fucking hero for this!!!!!! People nowadays dont go to college for an education they go to college for the party and to fuck their life up even more because they have had everything handed to them so why not just slack off in college. As someone who wants to become a cop and school not being required I have decided to go to community college to keep my head on straight and go for an education but at least during the police academy im going to be busting my ass
So corporations run politicians who run america, thus corporations run America. Whoop dee fucking doo there's nothing you or I or occupy wall street can fucking do about it. That's the way it is, so all of you lazy pieces of shit stop having such high expectations with your fucking standard communications degree and go out and try accepting a lesser job than you want. Some people have to work hard to make it in this country and so should you
hahahaha! actually, a lot of his fans are left. If you really think that's what he was doing - you are delusional. I am in no way a teabagger and I agree 100% with him.
@stickydog480 Honestly, I'd sooner tag Fantom58 with the phrase "teabagger". Not in a political sense, though, but in the sense that he has a nutsack in his mouth when he's typing up on here.
I don't know if I can agree with Adam on this one. Occupy movement is not all about being angry at the rich, I think they are more angry because all those CEOs are making millions of money because of the government bail outs.
Adam is so SPOT ON!!!! This is exactly what has happened to our SOCIETY ,with all the politically correct B.s. , dont hurt someones feelings and tell em like it is B.S. it is ENTITLEMENT that these whack jobs feel they are owed..and dont need to work for it. BUT HEY, let's take a look at who's in the White House right now, creating this CLASS Warfare..He's behind much of this due to many things he has said these past 3 years. He supports OWS !
@Rebel4USA May I share something? And I am NOT claiming to represent anyone's experience but my own:
When I was growing up we were very poor...so were most of my friends. And by "poor" I mean a couple of pounds of beans to live on for a week at a time. All my clothes (and my friends) came from the Goodwill and I never had any decent clothing until I was 15 and got my first job.
We lived in a terrible old drafty house without any proper heating and we had an old car that barely ran.
Because we had Daddies that didn't want to work. We had Daddies that "weren't going to be pushed around by 'nobody!'". We had Daddies that would rather try to scam the system for benefits and only work the bare minimum they could possibly get away with. My wife grew up in similar circumstances.
Yes, we are now living the "American Dream" thanks to wising up & working hard.
When I think back on my parents whining about being "poor" it makes me cringe.
@jbeyer84 you must not work or you must be one of those assholes that exploits loop holes so you don't have to pay taxes. Just look at your pay stub and do the math. I'm being taxed at 24 percent.
@TheMechanocore I want you to do something; After you file your tax return see what is your supposed "effective tax rate". Mine was "17%" last year.
Then take a look at ALL of the taxes you pay...you may just find that you are paying out well over half of your earnings in taxes in one form or another. I know that my wife and I do.
Just keep the smelling salts handy so someone can wake you up when you figure out how much you really pay in taxes.
Adam Corrola is the dimwit's dimwit. He thinks envy is something new. He is only considering income tax of which many pay nothing at all like the heads of Google. They pay capital gains tax which is less than income tax. And how does Adam determine it is fair? Paris Hilton earned the millions she inherited? Hardly. If it wasn't for Jimmy Kimmel, Adam would just be another has been comedian.
The point is: Who cares how who earned what? Just because some have wealth doesn't mean others are ENTITLED to it. America is the most successful country in the history of the world.
@Grafknar Do you know how most of the wealth was generated in the US? Land stolen from the natives. So, what makes you think they are entitled to it in the first place? Left is left. Ford stole the invention for the intermittent wiper. Elvis squeezed 50% royalties from African American artists who could not get legal representation. Corrola reminds me of the couple who won the lottery but kept using the word "earned." Nepotism is a form of corruption that undermines our society.
@elegantsolution Whine me a river. Every single nation on this Earth is built upon countries they conquered or supplanted in one way, shape or form. That's the human condition. Difference is that in America, we're all individuals who aren't ruled, but rule ourselves.
Bottom line? WHO CARES HOW A RICH PERSON GOT RICH? You are what you make of yourself here. Don't like it? Cuba's nice this time of year.
@Grafknar Who cares? Clearly not some half-wit loser like yourself who thinks cheating and stealing are ok. Bottom line. Self-righteous morons like you freeload off of us who actually know facts and provide examples. Way to socialize your ignorance comrade.
@Grafknar@Grafknar Yes, because telling fellow Americans if they don't like it, they can leave isn't personal. Spare me. I gave two more recent examples before: Elvis and inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper 100 years on this continent isn't equivalent to 1000 years on another in any reality. Sell your snake oil somewhere else. Carolla freeloads off the public airwaves, pushing out more intelligent people.
Earn what you earn but pay what you owe. Average american pays roughly around 24 to 27 percent tax. Top one percent only pay around 16 percent. Either lower ours or raise theirs. Its only fair.
@TheMechanocore I'm not sure I trust those numbers but let's just say that they're in the ballpark (although I don't think they are) doesn't this really indicate that we are all having the wrong conversation?
Maybe we need an overhaul of the entire tax system and just how taxes are collected. Go ahead & get ready to pelt me with rocks and garbage-Maybe taxes on personal income is not a good way; The ethics are not only arguable but it creates a system that is easily manipulated.
@TheMechanocore Flat tax of 3 percent would cover all our needs by simplifying taxes (lightening the load of the IRS which could be downsized), eliminating loopholes (no more exemptions for ANYTHING, make a dollar a year? pay 3 cents. Make a million? pay $30,000. Period), and being fair (everyone pays the same percentage).
@TheMechanocore LMFAO did you get those statistics out of your ass? Sure smells like it! Go on the IRS and actually look at the tax liabilities instead of making shit up! if you make like 40g a year which most Americans don't you actually only pay in about 5000 into FICA you are one of those people who just makes up statistics because your info is not accurate at all!
@t3super60W Don't feel like the lone ranger; My wife and I are twice your age and after living most of our lives in the lowest segment of earners (in other words...we both grew up damn poor) we have finally managed to begin having a decent income...of course it took YEARS of work and sacrifice to get to this point...and now the friends and family members that do a BARE minimum to get by (& that's being generous) will look at any nice thing we can afford & sneer "It must be nice..."
It sucks because only you and your wife know the struggle you've been through to be able to move up in life, so it really hurts when loved ones don't get it and act like you're the ones in the wrong
@t3super60W Depend on what you define as nice, is the ferrari nice, bmw nice, cadillac nice...haha...but yeah i completely agree, work hard now and it pays off later, honestly right now im going to college, driving a piece of shit car, but thats quite okay because i plan on becoming a cop and i know at that point life will be good, other than they fact that id have to deal with ass holes who hate cops because they cant stop breaking the god damn law.
Capitalism is not the problem, nor is socialism the answer. The problem is corporationism (unpure capitalism) - corporations are getting bailed out by the government because they can't run their own business. Pure capitalism rewards those who work hard and know what they're doing. How much sense does it make for someone who has worked hard and knows what they're doing to pay for someone's insurance who put themselves in debt via credit cards or student loans? PLEASE tell me how that makes sense.
@jpgarrett93 I agree. I think that what you call 'unpure capitalism' is (at least in part) what others call 'crony capitalism'. Ayn Rand wrote that the problem that hindered us from experiencing true economic and social freedom in our country (which she loved) was that our economy was "mixed" from the beginning. This is why we have never had truly "Pure capitalism" as you call it. Those in power pick the winners and losers in order to further their own power and wealth.
Interesting Adam, how are you any different than them? You occupy the publicly owned airwaves as though they are yours, freeloading off what is ours, while critcizing others for doing the same in a public space. I thought you were better than spouting hate about people you don't really know. I guess I was wrong.
@elegantsolution, well he did get permission to broadcast, and followed the rules, unlike the OWS movement who ignored the law and tormented innocent people along the way.
"Publicly owned airwaves", so I suppose speaking out needs the collective's approval too?
@LibertyDownUnder Blamed? Blamed him for occupying a piece of the spectrum, which he in fact does? At least try to be accurate. OWS people didn't follow the rules that didn't follow the rules. When laws violate the Consitution they are not laws. Have you ever heard of Jim Crow laws. When the law is used as a tool to beat people done, it is used by tools to beat people down.
@LibertyDownUnder he is a radio guy freeloading off the public airwaves to spew his bigoted drivel. You know what OWS thinks? Bigots always think they know what the people they hate are thinking when they don't. It is what makes you an ignorant bigot.
@LibertyDownUnder They are still publicly owned airwaves that the government has already taken over. Insulting is people who don't know what they are talking about deluding themselves into thinking they do. Corrola is so stupid that he thinks envy is something brand new.
@clai1110 I'm in the younger generation, and completely agree that it is the laziest, most worthless, generation of all. Two recessions is no excuse, these so called recessions are all a matter of perspective. Higher paying jobs should help but instead we take out loans for school instead of working our way through it. And almost everybody in the newer generations has a "I want it know!!!" mentality, so instead of planning and working for it, we "Finance!" and we wonder why we never get ahead.
@brandoncaro82 For the record I work my tale off some times 24hrs at a time, I live just above the poverty level(finally) and struggle month to month to pay bills and clothe my children. But not because somebody held me back or got my share, it's because of stupid mistakes and stupid decisions I've made through out my adult life. Of course I wan't what "so and so" has but I don't want it handed to me, I want the satisfaction and sustainability of knowing I worked hard for it. (and payed cash!)
@clai1110 To be fair, he's not talking about the entire generation; he's talking about the OWS-part of the self-entitled generation. If you have time to defecate in a park for months on end, you clearly aren't working a 60 hour week...you aren't working at all. I can assure you that if you're working 60 hours a week and, as Adam says, busting your ass, you WILL get ahead...people in America always have and always will. Get to work, see you at the top.
So the extremists aren't pissed off at the Western powers for occupying their lands and fucking things up worldwide for their own profit, they're pissed off at us because they're envious of the cultural/economical differences? Really?
I have a feeling people are only liking this rant because they know the dudes name, and he's constantly swearing and it 'sounds' like he has a down-to-earth view on everything... Ugh.
His comments on terrorism also demonstrate narcissism. Terrorism in the Middle East isn't because Muslims are outraged by our luxuries or girls jumping on trampolines. They're a reaction to policy in the region by America and the former Soviet Union. This willful ignorance to the consequences of our actions is why we get confronted with problems and think they're brand new.
He's being very disingenuous by writing off the grievances of an entire political movement as envy. Politicians are being bribed regularly by corporate interests for favors like government contracts, deregulation, positions in the public sector, subsidies, intellectual property legislation, etc. Our democracy is being gradually undermined into a plutocracy by the very people chosen to guard it. Adam Carolla apparently thinks nothing of that, and would rather disparage OWS with ad hominem.
Hollywood never-was who is privileged enough that he that can't understand the crisis of capitalism, globalization and corrupt government... judging a generation more sophisticated than he ever was.
@Rabidness Give me a fucking break, asshole. It is fucking envy. OWS protesters are self-entitled douchebags. There is NO "crisis" of capitalism. All your children are poor unfortunate victims of the lies you believe. Your ignorance is a plague that keeps them from the truth they deserve.
@IsaacBaranoff Capitalism is dying of its own internal contradictions. Google "dialectical materialism" and you'll see what I mean. This is why capitalism can no longer produce good jobs, the price of health care, energy and college tuition is skyrocketing, and business must cozy up to government just to survive. We are moving inexorably towards a publicly-owned economy, It's as certain as sunup.
@fantom58 Pff. Google "corporatism", read Reason's "Corporatism is not the free market." Corporatism is not capitalism. You're listening to Mitt Romney way too much.
wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=fclSh4Jief4 if you really want to acknowledge what OWS is about, other wise just stay a sheep, remain ignorant and listen to people who misinform you on what it is really about so you can justify doing nothing about our biggest problems. It make take time but you will lose this battle anyway.
And as far as taxing the rich goes, they're not asking to raise it much at all. Raising taxes on the Richest people in the world just a little bit so we can keep a middle class and the poor have a fighting chance, so we can keep social security for the people who have worked the hardest for it is not even close to socialist but not doing it and ending all of that is pretty Fascist.
I think people should learn a little bit about what they are talking about before they open their mouths. OWS is about ending corporate control of our government not taking form successful people. Taxes are only a very small part of it and the tax movement is mostly progressives not OWS it's just that most of OWS agrees but since we can't get all the things we're up against in one sound bite we can't even get ignorant people to listen for 5 min so they pit against their own fight for justice.
Adam nailed it. The coddled losers won't like to hear it, but he put it down, plain and simple. I made my wife listen to it, for the next time my kids bring home a terrible piece of crap they made in school, and she wants me to tell them what a great job they did on it! I've never let my daughter beat me at a game of chess, again my wife berates me for it, but now she is one of the top in the city in her age group, and she feels good about herself because she earned it. Suck it up hippies!
@clai1110 Are we really getting paid like shit?Higher paying jobs have ALWAYS required more skills and education. We work 60 hours a week, because we actually do give a shit about making a living and working hard for it, if we don't have those skills. It's lifeYou can't get any better than this country. No one is calling you lazy for working 60 hours a week.I'm 37 and work the same. The issue is how we are perceiving it all. We have people now that look down at hard work. That's when countries fail.
Adam is so right! Just work harder! A few of us can make it big some day. Don't worry that the game is controlled and we don't really have a perfectly fair chance. Some of us WILL beat the odds and that will inspire the rest to just keep trying. Don't worry that people get sick sometimes. Don't worry that just earning enough money to survive might leave you no extra time to improve yourself. Just keep grinding so we can eventually out produce the child labor in China earning a dollar a day.
@clai1110 Oh no, two recessions! *gasp*! Those f-ing, non i-pod listing morons who worked their hands to the bone during the depression don't have a clue. Oh, and those folks who had to stand in line during the oil embargo of the late seventies, or those farmer type people who wake up early and go to bed late...yeah. You're right...You're soooo suffering.
Thank you for the fine example of Generation Waaa!
To say that OWS is about laziness and envy is to show you have NOT been paying the least bit of attention.
The problem is about THE GAP and about CORRUPTION.
No one is 100x smarter than average. No one works 100x harder. WHY IS THE INCOME GAP GROWING WIDER? Because the 1% control resources and gov.
ALSO: The rich got rich on the back of our country's infrastructure. No one ever got rich entirely by themselves. So when the time comes to keep America functioning in the tough times, step up.
@learkur You are the problem. Not because of you, but because you fall for all of this BS. You use the word 'rich' like it's evil. And you don't even understand the world. Apparently you haven't learned history. Your so-called 'GAP' theory is the start of tens of millions of people dead in China, Russia and all over the world. I would recommend you read Thomas Sowell's Basic Economics, and also Mark Levin's Liberty and Tyranny. You are starving for facts.
@learkur Spoken like a true idiot follower of elizabeth warren. If you morons would pull your collective heads out of your asses you'd find out that liberals and progressives and all of your teachers have filled your heads full of mush and lies!!! Geez you people of this occuTARD movement are STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adam has it right. that was one of the most intelligent things I've ever heard him say. Dont bitch about having nothing when you've done nothing to attain what you want.
I always thought this guy was a major Lib until I read the hit piece article on Wikipedia on him. Why is Wiki attacking a lib? Now I can see. He isn’t a lib. Oh, he is not just saying work more hours. You have to make yourself into something.
Sure, I've known people here or there throughout my life that were jealous of what others had (while sitting on their asses themselves) but they always seemed like the rare exception.
Now we are seeing the attitude on a scale that many of us would have never imagined.
Yes, the occupy protests are ridiculous and they have no clue what they want, but adam here has absolutely no clue either. he makes clear that he himself is an entitled arrogant douche, hell the whole time he has his mindless lapdog patting him on the head and making zero attempt so say maybe "hey, adam, step back and THINK about what it is you're saying". It's a perfect illustration about how nobody has a fucking clue, and nobody has the sense to take everything into account and THINK about it.
OK I'm sorry but this is idiocy. The Occupy protests aren't about getting rich people to pay more tax. Admittedly their established goal is vague, but much of it is to do with the injustices that happen in a privatised system. And even IGNORING that, comparing a group of (largely) peaceful protesters to terrorists is getting into sinister territory.
What about the fact that the if you took the 400 richest people in America and combined their net worth, it would equal the net worth of the bottom 50% of all Americans. 400 people have more than 155,900,000, and you think it's odd that the top 1% pays 50% of taxes?
Yes Adam. Me. Peon 232342343 will get one of 4 jobs in my area. Your job is to spew your opinion into the ether, so it's not like your high horse is that tall.
I guess Adam doesn't know that taxes on the wealthy have been reduced several times since he was a kid. Govt assisstance peaked in the late 70s. Also his theory on terorist envy is wrong. The main reason that there is terrorism is bc of occupation and influence. 90% of the terrorists are Saudi bc the US owns their puppet govt. None of the terrorist come from Bangladesh, a muslim country that is much larger and poorer than Saudi Arabia.
When he used the example that the terrorists are jealous of our wealth is when he clearly shows he doesn't gets what's going on and is part of this new rich entertainers that come in when it's the perfect time to be wealthy with the lower taxes and never experienced anything but these lower taxes since they've become rich.
Good point Adam, if you have little to no understanding of how our economic system actually works. You should read up before you comment because the explanation of how system is screwing the average American can't fit on a sign or in a sound bite... We won't even get into how many of the richest corporations didn't pay any taxes last year.
What an ignoramus. He seems to have no idea what OWS is about (it's about the people having a role in their supposedly "representative" government rather than multinational corporations running the government), no idea about what's been going on in government and business and tax rates and employment for the last 25 years, and on a basic level no idea what he's talking about. He's angry about kids being coddled, okay, but that's a non-sequitir that totally misses the point. Idiot.
It's less about envy and more about entitlement mentality. Sadly my generation is very much about instant gratification and not living up to their responsibilities. Other people paying for YOUR education? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life.
Adam is assuming everyone is on a level playing field. The OWS movement is protesting deregulation and corporate money in politics that influences policy aimed against average hardworking people.
Adam is exhibiting the same rational of someone who is not well-versed in politics and economics. He is oversimplifying the whole issue because he doesn't understand what is going on. Most people dont spend the time to research or simply cannot comprehend the complexities of the financial issues.
@Azazel949 Do you still have your participation trophies on the mantle in your parents house? I think maybe it's time that you move out of your parent's basement, don't you?
@joebaseball17 I am actually a professional baseball player. So I would say that I earned more than participation trophies. I am also a college grad that lives alone. I really dont see how your comment relates to OWS. Instead of debating the real issues, you resort to personal attacks like Adam.
@Azazel949 Adam was brought up in a different generation than this self entitled generation, used to work construction, and worked to become what he is now. I'd say he knows more than some of these lazy, picky, OWS kiddies with no clue why they're out there and want free handouts, but turn away real homeless people that want free handouts as well.
@AntiFox08 It is not about work ethic. No one is out there saying that they dont want to work and receive money for that. Its pathetic how people boil this movement down to laziness. Have you ever heard of Citizens United? Do you know about financial deregulation? Prob not.
Ha ha I've had to work with all these people that are total losers they try to not get noticed and stay on as long as possible and not make waves or make anything else for that matter they keep their heads low don't produce anything and want regular raises for warming a seat like they are entitled. Thank you Adam.
What I find oddly funny is people who respond to Adam, like this, "Fricken right....survival of the fittest. Trample the weak and hurdle the dead. " But, they are too stupid to realize that they indeed are the weak... 99% weak.... fodder for multi-national corporations... Much of the anger from the OWS people is aimed at lybbyists, insider trading, buying favors from congress, shady deals like the derivatives market... It's not aimed at just successful people....
@KublaVeruca I totally agree with you. There is a problem and anyone who sits their fat ass at home, and do nothing should stay away from those that are doing something. For some reason they think it is a socialist vs capitalist struggle. Those that understand the system we are using know that this is simply not true and that we should find common ground.
@KublaVeruca Really.. then why the down with capitalism signs up with communism signs and hostility towards those who use the opportunity presented them to better themselves?
@skibbyrib I've never seen a sign that specifically say that. But some of those guys are indeed socialist, and I don't necessarily thinks that's bad. I'd be happy to pay 35% income tax, if I got health care out of it.... But thats just my opinion on that specific issue... Also, OWS isn't against capitalism, it's against corporatism, and crony-capitalism....
@KublaVeruca Wrong. Most of those "cats", the rich were not born rich. 80% of millionaires are the first generation to be rich. More fact-free drivel from the left.
@KublaVeruca 80% of the millionaires in the US are first generation wealthy...meaning they earned it unlike those of the entitlement generation who see the fruit of someone else's labor and feel deserving of the same rewards with no work. "paying 35% taxes under socialism for healthcare"? Educate yourself on Marxism and history. The top 10% DOES pay 35% taxes and accounts for over 65% of the taxes paid. Where is the money going to come from when the 10% have been blead out?
@skibbyrib Also, I understand Adam's point of view. He's a blue-collar guy, who was able to capitalize on his talents. He's worked hard for his life, and deserves all the rewards... But, he's not the 1%. What I find funny, is people like yourself, who defend the 1%, as if somehow you're gonna be one some day. Most of those cats were born rich, and no matter how much they squander (or multiply) their money, will remain rich...
@KublaVeruca The NET IS FILLED with anti-capitalism rally photos. Any Mau, Lenin, or Che shirt are all anti-capititalism. The Occupy movement has been a well funded and from the start. it stemmed from Adbusters in Canada, been organized by socialist radicals who have been operating for years in this country. Do you really think the occupy news paper popped up overnight on its own. EDUCATE yourself with the likes of Saul Alinsky and classic Marxism. READ AND LEARN HISTORY!
@KublaVeruca then they need to be occupying washington dc, and not wall street. they need to be protesting obama every where he goes for giving bail outs to corporations, which is just corporate welfare. there are more monopolies under socilism than a free market. so, occupy wall street needs to be protesting the big government policies that started.
@KublaVeruca So why isn't OWS in front of the white house? The government gives corporations the power to odo all that. You must cut off the head of the snake. Corporations will just leave the country if they want to. The government can not.
Because either they are losers in arrested development that understand shit (I mean seriously - who would give more power to the government that is controlled by corporations if corporations are evil? Thats insanity) or whole movement is just controlled opposition. Take your pick.
@KublaVeruca Not just successful people? Why is it aimed at successful people at all? Not everyone's gonna make it and the world is gonna have to come to terms with that. Stop being jealous and be happy with the fact that your even given the chance to reach for success. Who knows, maybe something good will come out of it.
This is what happens when Marxist/Feminist Left takes over education. The coddle everyone who fails and attacks anyone who succeeds. The top 1% includes people like Oprah who was born into UNBELIEVABLE poverty, descended from slaves and sharecroppers. Oprah has more wealth and more fame then nearly every single white in existence or who ever lived. She did it in a white country.
Africa is a shit hole because it's Socialist and Muslim.
The Left PRAISED Mugabe's Leftist policies and now...
I'd rather have a low paying job than a no paying job. Adam hit the nail on the head with this segment of the occupy movement. There are other "educated" idiots who just walk around wearing t-shirts with clever quotations talking about capitalism and free market and other random economic principles and think to themselves "man, Im pretty damn smart!" Then they find a camera and and start bitching about it when they should be motivating others to succeed, or better yet, take a job...any job.
This is so awesome. While the government should NEVER bail out anyone, the OWS movement is totally unfocused and ridiculous.Sometimes I want to shoot myself in the head listening to kids at my college inanely attempt to explain the purpose of the movement, and what exactly they're achieving by it. I agree, also, that the pendulum swing of parenting is a huge problem. The everyone gets a trophy epidemic. The "my kid didn't get an A I'm going to yell at the teacher instead of my kid" mentality.
Pleas tell me how we were worse off for having Reagan as a President. I was 7 when he replaced that peanut farmer; during this time I can remember seeing billboards advertising car loans as low as 18.9% because my mother was so outraged when seeing it. if you look it up the average was 21.5% on19 Dec 1980 and by 1989 it had dropped to a 10.5%. Not to mention the 52 Americans that were held hostage for 444 day under Carter Presidency. The end of the cold war also took place. Yes, I
I LOVE Adam Carolla and agree with him almost 100 percent of the time. I agree that this is an issue in society, but I wonder how much relevance it has with OWS.
I think that there are SO many different folks trying to voice their discontent through the OWS movement that his thoughts don't necessarily apply to everyone in it (such as many Libertarians and those angry with government bailouts) but I do think it applies to many of those we see on the news...particularly the younger people who can't really articulate why they are there in the first place. Face it...even THEY know how bad it would sound if they simply said "I want something for free".
I'd agree with that. There are definitely idiots who are part of the movement and his rant more than applies. I guess I just mean that there are millions more of them out there who aren't part of OWS and it applies. It might not be fair to generalize that the mentality of the entire movement is as such.
@rusH1023 I wonder how the protests looked different from one city to another;
Here in PDX the majority of those who occupied our city parks looked like transients and VERY young kids smoking weed and demanding...well, nothing in particular.
At the end of the day we ended up with thousands of dollars of damage and human excrement and garbage all over the city center.
When I watched the national news I would see people who looked like they actually has something to say but not in my area.
I grew up EXTREMELY poor but never heard my parents whine that they were poor due to the success of someone else. I most definitely had friends with parents who bitched and moaned about being poor while sitting around drinking. It wasn't until a few years ago that my wife and I bettered our life by working harder and making a decision to do so. The "Occupy" folks act as if the idea of improving one's life through hard work is a fairy tale.
OH gee so how do you explain the millions out of work MANY OF WHICH are OLDER and been in coroporate america and worked hard adn lost life savings... You are missing so much of the picture of what is happening. this is basically a reaction which has some merit based on SYMPTOMS of what is happening. I'm conservative and voted cons.for decades. I do not condone violence , Your point about Mr. Jenkins is good but many are rich by THEFT in America we usually jail them now we reward the thieves.
@TheAlrady what your referring to is crony capitalism, that's a whole seperate issue. there's no excuse for the loser mentality adam is talkin about here.
@tjbay13 "what your referring to is crony capitalism"
Amen. We have to make a distinction between true free-market capitalism and crony capitalism.
Even the most Libertarian free-market minded amongst us are against crony capitalism which may be one of the biggest things that is ruining our country.
@pdxtom yea it is the biggest problem we have right now. i dont think alot of folks on the left are drawing this distinction. certainly most of the occupy crowd doesnt get it.
Which podcast of his was this from? I get the podcast but I only download based on the guest because Adam does tend to repeat stories and what not a lot.
Too True! Nobody holds themselves accountable for their own actions anymore. Everyone is a Winner!
Instead of pointing the spotlight on themselves, they spend all their energy to point fingers, so they can complain and say that nothing is their fault!
We are living in a society of thoughtless, self-serving pricks with no morals!!!
@conservativo The rich and the poor pay taxes using the exact same tables and tax laws. There are not two seperate scales. I think those Millionaires who went to Washington had the right idea. If you don't like paying taxes go to Somalia, you don't have to pay any there and there are no burdonsome regulations to slow up your earning.

We lived in a terrible old drafty house without any proper heating and we had an old car that barely ran.
pdxtom 1 month ago
Wanna know why we were all so poor?

TheMechanocore 1 month ago

Hardly. If it wasn't for Jimmy Kimmel, Adam would just be another has been comedian.
elegantsolution 1 month ago
@elegantsolution And?
The point is: Who cares how who earned what? Just because some have wealth doesn't mean others are ENTITLED to it. America is the most successful country in the history of the world.
We did not get there via the Envy Formula...
Grafknar 1 month ago
@Grafknar Do you know how most of the wealth was generated in the US? Land stolen from the natives. So, what makes you think they are entitled to it in the first place? Left is left. Ford stole the invention for the intermittent wiper. Elvis squeezed 50% royalties from African American artists who could not get legal representation. Corrola reminds me of the couple who won the lottery but kept using the word "earned." Nepotism is a form of corruption that undermines our society.
elegantsolution 1 month ago
@elegantsolution Whine me a river. Every single nation on this Earth is built upon countries they conquered or supplanted in one way, shape or form. That's the human condition. Difference is that in America, we're all individuals who aren't ruled, but rule ourselves.
Bottom line? WHO CARES HOW A RICH PERSON GOT RICH? You are what you make of yourself here. Don't like it? Cuba's nice this time of year.

Historical events are one thing - fundamental aspects of our nation (now that we finally have them right) is another...
Grafknar 1 month ago
@Grafknar @Grafknar Yes, because telling fellow Americans if they don't like it, they can leave isn't personal. Spare me. I gave two more recent examples before: Elvis and inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper 100 years on this continent isn't equivalent to 1000 years on another in any reality. Sell your snake oil somewhere else. Carolla freeloads off the public airwaves, pushing out more intelligent people.
elegantsolution 1 month ago
Earn what you earn but pay what you owe. Average american pays roughly around 24 to 27 percent tax. Top one percent only pay around 16 percent. Either lower ours or raise theirs. Its only fair.

@TheMechanocore I'm not sure I trust those numbers but let's just say that they're in the ballpark (although I don't think they are) doesn't this really indicate that we are all having the wrong conversation?
Maybe we need an overhaul of the entire tax system and just how taxes are collected. Go ahead & get ready to pelt me with rocks and garbage-Maybe taxes on personal income is not a good way; The ethics are not only arguable but it creates a system that is easily manipulated.
pdxtom 1 month ago
@TheMechanocore That's not true, and you know it! And besides what difference does it mean to you? Please define fairness for me.
lta6494 1 month ago
@TheMechanocore Flat tax of 3 percent would cover all our needs by simplifying taxes (lightening the load of the IRS which could be downsized), eliminating loopholes (no more exemptions for ANYTHING, make a dollar a year? pay 3 cents. Make a million? pay $30,000. Period), and being fair (everyone pays the same percentage).
Sublime865 1 month ago
@TheMechanocore LMFAO did you get those statistics out of your ass? Sure smells like it! PLEASE tell me how that makes sense.
jpgarrett93 1 month ago
@jpgarrett93 I agree. I think that what you call 'unpure capitalism' is (at least in part) what others call 'crony capitalism'. Ayn Rand wrote that the problem that hindered us from experiencing true economic and social freedom in our country (which she loved) was that our economy was "mixed" from the beginning. This is why we have never had truly "Pure capitalism" as you call it. Those in power pick the winners and losers in order to further their own power and wealth.

@pdxtom Exactly. Gotta love Ayn Rand.

@elegantsolution, well he did get permission to broadcast, and followed the rules, unlike the OWS movement who ignored the law and tormented innocent people along the way.
"Publicly owned airwaves", so I suppose speaking out needs the collective's approval too?

@LibertyDownUnder Actually, the law says that you have the right to free speech and assembly. It is called the Consitution, try reading it.
elegantsolution 1 month ago
@elegantsolution, you blamed Adam for "occupying airwaves", and I just pointed out he followed the rules, unlike the OWS people.
LibertyDownUnder 1 month ago
@LibertyDownUnder Blamed? Blamed him for occupying a piece of the spectrum, which he in fact does? At least try to be accurate. OWS people didn't follow the rules that didn't follow the rules. When laws violate the Consitution they are not laws. Have you ever heard of Jim Crow laws. When the law is used as a tool to beat people done, it is used by tools to beat people down.

SoulFluid803 2 months ago
I think people should learn a little bit about what they are talking about before they open their mouths. OWS is about ending corporate control of our government not taking form successful people. Taxes are only a very small part of it and the tax movement is mostly progressives not OWS it's just that most of OWS agrees but since we can't get all the things we're up against in one sound bite we can't even get ignorant people to listen for 5 min so they pit against their own fight for justice.

Idiot.
EinsteinvsEisenstein 2 months ago
It's less about envy and more about entitlement mentality. Sadly my generation is very much about instant gratification and not living up to their responsibilities. Other people paying for YOUR education? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life.
C22Sickle 2 months ago
Adam is assuming everyone is on a level playing field. The OWS movement is protesting deregulation and corporate money in politics that influences policy aimed against average hardworking people.
Adam is exhibiting the same rational of someone who is not well-versed in politics and economics. He is oversimplifying the whole issue because he doesn't understand what is going on. Most people dont spend the time to research or simply cannot comprehend the complexities of the financial issues.
Azazel949 2 months ago 2
@Azazel949 Do you still have your participation trophies on the mantle in your parents house? I think maybe it's time that you move out of your parent's basement, don't you?
joebaseball17 2 months ago
@joebaseball17 I am actually a professional baseball player. So I would say that I earned more than participation trophies. I am also a college grad that lives alone. I really dont see how your comment relates to OWS. Instead of debating the real issues, you resort to personal attacks like Adam.
Azazel949 2 months ago
@Azazel949 Adam was brought up in a different generation than this self entitled generation, used to work construction, and worked to become what he is now. I'd say he knows more than some of these lazy, picky, OWS kiddies with no clue why they're out there and want free handouts, but turn away real homeless people that want free handouts as well.
AntiFox08 2 months ago
@AntiFox08 It is not about work ethic. No one is out there saying that they dont want to work and receive money for that. Its pathetic how people boil this movement down to laziness. Have you ever heard of Citizens United? Do you know about financial deregulation? Prob not.
Azazel949 2 months ago 2
Ha ha I've had to work with all these people that are total losers they try to not get noticed and stay on as long as possible and not make waves or make anything else for that matter they keep their heads low don't produce anything and want regular raises for warming a seat like they are entitled. Thank you Adam.

tocolormemucsic44 2 months ago
What I find oddly funny is people who respond to Adam, like this, "Fricken right....survival of the fittest. Trample the weak and hurdle the dead. " But, they are too stupid to realize that they indeed are the weak... 99% weak.... fodder for multi-national corporations... Much of the anger from the OWS people is aimed at lybbyists, insider trading, buying favors from congress, shady deals like the derivatives market... It's not aimed at just successful people....

@KublaVeruca Why would anyone flag this guy's post as "Spam"?
Whether we agree with any one person or not we should let them have their say (unless of course all they are doing is mindlessly cursing).
pdxtom 2 months ago
@KublaVeruca I totally agree with you. There is a problem and anyone who sits their fat ass at home, and do nothing should stay away from those that are doing something. For some reason they think it is a socialist vs capitalist struggle. Those that understand the system we are using know that this is simply not true and that we should find common ground.
se7ensnakes 2 months ago in playlist Freedom
@KublaVeruca Really.. then why the down with capitalism signs up with communism signs and hostility towards those who use the opportunity presented them to better themselves?
skibbyrib 2 months ago
@skibbyrib I've never seen a sign that specifically say that. But some of those guys are indeed socialist, and I don't necessarily thinks that's bad. I'd be happy to pay 35% income tax, if I got health care out of it.... But thats just my opinion on that specific issue... Also, OWS isn't against capitalism, it's against corporatism, and crony-capitalism....
KublaVeruca 2 months ago

Where is the money going to come from when the 10% have been blead out?
skibbyrib 2 months ago
@skibbyrib Also, I understand Adam's point of view. He's a blue-collar guy, who was able to capitalize on his talents. He's worked hard for his life, and deserves all the rewards... But, he's not the 1%. What I find funny, is people like yourself, who defend the 1%, as if somehow you're gonna be one some day. Most of those cats were born rich, and no matter how much they squander (or multiply) their money, will remain rich...
KublaVeruca 2 months ago
@KublaVeruca The NET IS FILLED with anti-capitalism rally photos. Any Mau, Lenin, or Che shirt are all anti-capititalism. The Occupy movement has been a well funded and from the start. it stemmed from Adbusters in Canada, been organized by socialist radicals who have been operating for years in this country. Do you really think the occupy news paper popped up overnight on its own. EDUCATE yourself with the likes of Saul Alinsky and classic Marxism. READ AND LEARN HISTORY!
skibbyrib 2 months ago
@KublaVeruca then they need to be occupying washington dc, and not wall street. they need to be protesting obama every where he goes for giving bail outs to corporations, which is just corporate welfare. there are more monopolies under socilism than a free market. so, occupy wall street needs to be protesting the big government policies that started.
remshot1998 2 months ago
@KublaVeruca So why isn't OWS in front of the white house? The government gives corporations the power to odo all that. You must cut off the head of the snake. Corporations will just leave the country if they want to. The government can not.
moonshot926 2 months ago
@moonshot926
Because either they are losers in arrested development that understand shit (I mean seriously - who would give more power to the government that is controlled by corporations if corporations are evil? Thats insanity) or whole movement is just controlled opposition. Take your pick.
zbigniewzapora 2 months ago

I agree that this is an issue in society, but I wonder how much relevance it has with OWS.
rusH1023 2 months ago 2
I think that there are SO many different folks trying to voice their discontent through the OWS movement that his thoughts don't necessarily apply to everyone in it (such as many Libertarians and those angry with government bailouts) but I do think it applies to many of those we see on the news...particularly the younger people who can't really articulate why they are there in the first place. Face it...even THEY know how bad it would sound if they simply said "I want something for free".
pdxtom 2 months ago 2
@pdxtom
I'd agree with that. There are definitely idiots who are part of the movement and his rant more than applies. I guess I just mean that there are millions more of them out there who aren't part of OWS and it applies. It might not be fair to generalize that the mentality of the entire movement is as such.
I wonder how he'd respond.
rusH1023 2 months ago
@rusH1023 I wonder how the protests looked different from one city to another;
Here in PDX the majority of those who occupied our city parks looked like transients and VERY young kids smoking weed and demanding...well, nothing in particular.
At the end of the day we ended up with thousands of dollars of damage and human excrement and garbage all over the city center.
When I watched the national news I would see people who looked like they actually has something to say but not in my area.
pdxtom 2 months ago
@pdxtom
Ahhh, well that might explain it.
rusH1023 2 months ago
@pdxtom yes. the pdx occupy crowd was an emberassment. i think the cost to fix and clean the parks is something like $80,000. ridiculious.

WE did it...and we are NOT super-human.
