I love Grand Funk. They were my first concert May 1974 Civic Arena, Pittsburgh PA. What a great concert. They rocked hard. This LP was also released on quadraphonic 8 track tape, the surround sound of the day. It is amazing!
YES 45'S...8 TRACK'S MAN WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LIFE...WITH GRAND FUNK!! I USE TO BLAST MY 45'S ROCK MUSIC AND MY MOM USED TO GET SOOOO PISS OFF WITH ME BLASTING MY MUSIC..BACK IN THE MID 70'S REALLLLLL ROCK ERA!!!!!!
IMO - GFR's best was their 1st, but this album is real good. Check out T.N.U.C live...one of the great drum solo's...the album version is shorter. These guys were hated by the critics but loved by America...Awesome band.
I was 16 years old working at Food Town that summer and this song was all over the radio. Every time I hear it it takes me back to that hot summer bagging groceries and making my own money for the first time.
Todd Rundgren! Really? Wow~Back then I was doing the music~And today I learned stuff~Thanks for the post~Still 'The Greatest Rock &Roll band" in The world~
The other day I heard this song on the radio... I immediately turned my cars speakers to max... Once the song ended I then realized I had blown out my two rear speakers. LOL I LOVE THIS SONG
Cool Looking Record!!! I love this song!!! I remember when this song was a hit back in '73. I was only 11 years old, but everytime this song came on the radio, I was rockin' out!!!
@1962drob Man those were the good old days. I remember as a kid having this on a 45rpm record, on paydays my Mom would take us to May Co. to get 45's. Like you stated this is great, Classic Rock.ROCK ON!!!
Staring at the record going around. That was our MTV man! Love it! I had that gold 45 too. It wasn't hard to get. The first pressings went out to the record stores that way. I even hear Todd R's high voice on the chorus. Way cool. Imagine what he could've done w/the Dolls if they hadn't hit it off so bad that one fateful day.
@micktheMaag that's right ... and Frank Zappa took them on the next road after that with 'Good Singing, Good Playing' but it wasn't enough to save GFR from breaking up.
Wow, my single is also off-centered and you can notice very slight permanent highs and lows in the pitch, specially as tonearm moves inside the record radio. Great looking single as is the golden LP pressing of this album. CREEPING is another classic to me. Greta video !
wow, I just took a good look at my clip - it looks like the tonearm is slightly moving side to side - I thought just the record label was off-centered - guess the entire 45 was misaligned during pressing. Doesn't sound it though .. happy new year fellow funk fan!
actually kinda looks like the center hole wasnt punched out correctly, idk who cares. its THE GRAND FUNK....ITS AMAZING. happy new years fellow upper classman
My mom had this 45 and passed it onto me when I was 2 or so. Was so fascinated by it because it was the only colored vinyl I had. I don't remember what I done, guess I acted up or something and I was grounded by having all of my records and player put up for a week. About 10 minutes after I got my records/player back I was trying to get this 45 out of the holder. It got hung and broke right in half - I was heartbroken. Thankfully I had the good fortune, some 23 years later to replace it.
Many years from now, when society has broken down and the knowledge of digital technology has been lost, and they dig up our land fills, they'll find our CD's and DVD's and they will not know what these are; they'll dig a little deeper and find our vinyl LP's 45's and 78's, and they'll be able to play them simply by spinning the records and putting a straight pin attached to the bottom of a paper cup in the grove. All the future will know of our music will be from the analog period 1900 to 1985
luckily the analog period is still alive if not that well -- but it is getting better -- I started seeking out new releases and back catalog vinyl LPs two years ago, seeing that the vinyl section of Virgin Mega was growing (they soon will be closing) and certain old classics were being made available again on vinyl (like Pet Sounds, the Band, Lennon 'Imagine', DSotMoon, etc) I just got Nirvana 'Nevermind' and the 2x LP of Pearl Jam 'Ten' 180g vinyl -- so much 90s music we missed on vinyl
A few weeks ago I bought the vinyl re-issue of 'Pet Sounds' (my #1 favorite album). Capitol has done a beautiful job at re-creating it down to the label itself. Although I'm still wanting an original 60's version as well, being the purist that I am LOL.
We really didn't miss much on vinyl in the 90's. I was buying quite a bit. I'd say about half of the albums from the decade was released on vinyl (including all or most of the Pearl Jam, Nirvana etc....) that you mentioned. In fact, I believe there were 2 different vinyl editions of 'Ten' before this latest double LP. And I'm meaning US pressings - not imports. Vinyl never really went away - just had to live in the right cities or if not (like me) you could special order new vinyl.
I live in NYC where surely vinyl issues of 1990's albums were available but once CDs became the norm, I didn't seek out Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc on vinyl -- didn't get the inspiration to go back to vinyl till a few years back, to buy a new album on LP. Never stopped buying used vinyl at street fairs, thrift stores, garage sales, etc that is where you get the best deals -- Sgt Pepper's UK mono LP for a dollar from local thrift store was among best scores.
Wow - finding the Sgt. Pepper's UK mono LP for a buck must have been an amazing find indeed. I'm assuming that's the pressing w/the nonsense on the run out groove right? You're right on - garage sales, flea markets, fairs etc.... is where I've found the greatest deals for used vinyl. Even scoring a few 70s or 80s albums still in the shrinkwrap. Everytime I'd go it would be like Christmas morning!
Yes, the UK Sgt Pepper's (mono and stereo) had that "inner groove" loop that we in the US never heard until the Rarities album. I have noticed of late, probably in the last year or so, many street vendors and even garage sales of vinyl want more money than they used to, probably got wise to how much the demand is for classic LPs and singles. The most extreme example of this was about a week after Michael Jackson died, some vendor was selling Thriller LP copies for $50, $75, and even $100!!
Awesome! Hell - I got curious one day and ebay had a listing of a Michael Jackson 'Thriller' 8 Track that was $10, 000. And that was a starting bid LOL. I notice that as well. With the vinyl's increasing popularity, the LPs that used to be cheap are going up in price. Makes it good and bad. I used to be able to go around to festivals/fairs etc.... and sometimes walk out w/a whole box of LPs in pretty good shape from $10 - $30, just depending on the seller. I'd probably never find that deal today
I love Grand Funk. They were my first concert May 1974 Civic Arena, Pittsburgh PA. What a great concert. They rocked hard. This LP was also released on quadraphonic 8 track tape, the surround sound of the day. It is amazing!

todd is listed only as Todd Rundgren – producer, engineer
not backing vocals
In a better world, this cover would read: "TODD FUNK: We're a Rundgrenian band!"

@rjciccone how much did the player cost you?
ledzeppfan1000 1 year ago
@emyandmatty Most Capitol 45's from the era (1973 to 1976 or so) had slightly enlarged holes. Especially the standard release orange label issues.
texs2007 1 year ago
@texs2007 Problem in my copy is not holes but off-centered pressings as I see. Greetings.
