Exactly... I just got out my anorak and my Ian Allan spotter's book, and it would have been an E3000- series number, surely? I think the dating is a bit shaky, but nice clips, anyway.
Yup still got it, thanks for the info. I think my models needs a new motor though, it's very temperamental, can't cross a point at slow speeds or it jsut cuts out.
0:36 can anyone tell me anything about that train. I was given a hornby model of it and never managed to figure out where/when it served since it doesnt have any naming on it other than "pullman" so I was able to figure out what class it was
@PSNPete1991 It is a Class 251/261, always known as 'The Blue Pullman', they served two routes, London Paddington to Birmingham, Wolverhampton & Bristol and and between London St Pancras and Manchester Central. Hope i helped :)
@PSNPete1991 It's the Blue Pullman DMU. It ran from the 60s to the 70s and was the precursor in some ways to the HST. They were painted in blue and grey as well from the late 60s (like a lot of other things on BR).
I hope you've still got your model. Those are very valuable now. In fact, Bachmann are doing a new one next year, which will mean it's been about 40 years since the last model of it came out.
"In the 1960s the railways changed". Damn right they did. The State invested even less money in them than they had in the previous 15 years, which was a tough call considering they had spent bugger all on them over that period anyway.
I have enough knowledge of railways to realise that a locomotive showing a TOPS number was not filmed or photographed in the 1960's. I know, I was there.
You can insult me all you like but you are still WRONG aren't you?
For the record I couldn't give a monkeys about Model Fairs, toy trains or counting rivets. I'm married (twice) have 2 children, 2 step children and eye up the ladies all the time!
Given that TOPS renumbering did not take place until the early 1970's ( I remember the period well) the scene cannot be from the 1960's, full stop. If you want to split hairs I would agree that the loco was built in the 1960's and from that point of view you could go out and video a Freightliner 86/6 and include that too.
@tim7099 This is precisely the reason I don't go to model fairs, because I meet people like you, who think they know all there is to know on railways, don't like children and eye up all the ladies.
@billyb4223 They did wear the all over blue from 1968 onwards, but as the loco is TOPS numbered, and also hauling MK2 D/E coaches, that must have been 1972 or later. Prior to that they still had their original E numbers.
It's great to know someone captured all this on quality film. Just followed the link and found you can get the full length hour long DVD "London Railways in the 1960's". I wonder if it's all as good as this short clip? It would be great to see another trailer.

London's railways in the 1960s? Then why is the final clip of a Class 86/2 arriving at Euston carrying the post 1974 TOPS number 86 217?

@LordGeorgeRodney . That's right, you can see the Bo-Bo wheel arrangement. What happened to them? Were they scrapped, never to be seen again?
