So, cole touches the water and gets zapped/dies. Beast wades through the water with no visible consequences. Bullshit much? And there goes numerous hours of work levelling up every power Cole had.

Would just like to say that they came up with a reason for the voice change story wise. It's supposed to be that the explosion and electricity in the beginning of the first game fried his vocal cords and hair, thats why he's somewhat bald in the last game and now has a buzz cut in this one; it's growing back. So the voice change is canonically supposed to be the slight healing of his throat and vocal cords. just a tid bit of info.
