Im sure you guys had a good time filming it. No things are not right. But listen to the comments of the guys that were really there. I was not. But was taught in my days in a Ranger unit by guys that were really there. Techniques are lost over the years. (Field craft) As for the larger guy. Don't take any offense. Some of these guys that comment negatively couldn't get there own but out of the house to do this filming. Just take the comments and improve on them.
too much with the rough movement of the vegetation. Need to move slower and more fluid. Silhouetting is very bad too. Camo looks good. All in all pretty good. Spread too far apart(3-5) Turn your mic down. Sound travels along way. Parallel the trails dont move down them. Hope this is used as positive not Negative.
The first two guys are not patrolling their arcs, or covering their sectors correctly. The last guy, arse-end arnold or tail-end charlie is doing at least half a decent effort, but the other blokes are just looking strait ahead most of the time. Nice gear, though.

not real. first the fat guy is too fat for a long range patrol and his eye glasses are not goverment issue. lrrp units are a type of special force and most all lrrp units the military wanted men with 20/20 vision anyway. but this could fool many people unless you know what to look for.
@wathacraftspfd this is a re-enactment of a marine force recon patrol, not army lrrp, recon and lrrp were more elite rather than being 'special forces', there are many pics of recon marines wearing BCG, Cpl Bishop from team snakey was but one who wore them, OK the guy is 'fat' it was his first day with us, he is working on his 'fat', he now has a pair of BLG, costing him £120, all the information can be found in ALEX LEE's book and BRUCE 'DOC' NORTON's books, check out the guys with glasses.
What I noticed is that we never had gas masks on patrol. One guy has wire rim glasses, which were not around then. I didn't see any Kbars or bayonets or machetes. The radio antenna was not up when they transmitted. We never wore packs or rucks on recon patrols, only long range combat patrols. One guy is in green cotton sateen utilities which were phased out in November '65 when get got green jungle utilities. Cammies came in around '69 or later. I was a grunt in 9th Marines in '65-66.
@johntellerman1 Every reconner carried gas masks on the left hip, we all have k-bars on our H harness, all force recon teams had rucks, five days in the bush needed a lot of food water and ammo, if you look close he is wearing green jungle utilities, 1968 dated, not cotton sateen, 3rd force recon wore ERDL early '69, the guy now wears BLG Nam dated, we are a re-enactment group and any info is always welcome.
if you want to learn how to patrol i think the vietnamese are still the ones you should be watching. Based on old japanese methods, they send the first guy through on his hands and knees with no weapons for mobility and increased stealth. We almost never found these patrols first throughout the entire war.
@CrushProject So are you saying a force recon point man should patrol on his hands and knees, with a 60-80 pound ruck on his back for five to six days with no weapon, what about 'contact front' or 'ambush' they patrolled like recon marines, and they were bloody good at it, read BRUCE NORTON's books, I may have only been a royal marine reservist, but even I know you dont run the bush without a weapon!!!
@reconmart How bout handing your rucksack to a comrade, and have 2 armed troops (with rpg's and suppression) behind you a fair distance to cover your back. And would it be a problem to switch off between soldiers doing this? Look at reports man. The enemy almost always dictated the time and place of ambush, not the other way around. Try reading the John H. Poole series. Will change how you see the battlefield, and written by a very accomplished and modern source. Eastern ftw.
Awesome Marine recon patrol done with stealth no talking except a radio interval check in, hand and ARM signals. Sleeves down.. proper camouflage on faces and neck.. good use of.aviator gloves.. retro Vietnam uniforms. Good stuff. This is a good example.of a reconnaissance patrol Semper-fi!
@scarecrow25 American Marine? You are clueless. All of us lost weight there. I went from 181 lbs when I landed to 132 when I left. Up to 130 degrees F and 90 percent humidity, and lousy C-rations and contaminated water. Everyone had dysentary and most caught malaria at some point. When I came home I looked like I got out of Auschwitz.
Cool video, good research on the gear. Another guy with a Grease Gun would have looked cool. I knew an old Marine Recon Vet who carried one in 65. He taped the mags "one up and 2 down".
He recalls being knocked unconscious and being saved by his friend. He said a VC was going to CUT HIS EAR off when his buddy zapped him. Do another Vid showing an NDP or Harbor Site. The Movie "Dead Presidents" did a credible job.
Sorry ice but that movei put a realy bad holly wood spin on recon marines in the field . they broke down their weapon's talked way to loudly , and the one guy has his junk cut off couse he went off alone .
But then again holly wood will never get the part of Marines to be right on .
I saw alot of things wrong with that movie. The Tiger Stripe Boonie Anthony wore the "360" scene were they were coughing and had more than 1 weapon broken down. The only part I was refering to was the M-3 Grease Gun. Most people don't realize they were carried along with Swedish Ks, Silenced Stens and SW 760s. They did not all carry M-16 and CAR-15s. The ERDLs were good in the Movie though along with the 782 gear.
Herby I noticed you were looking for repro ERDL there is a company in I believe in Thailand that were reproducing them. I wish I still knew the Company. I remember buying real ERDLs for cheap back in the early 80s. I have in my possession 2 pairs of mint conditon Tigers my Boss gave me years ago. Down side though they are Asian Scale meaning too small .. Bummer.
that was good looked authentic....but was really really boring...dno if tht was just the affect lol but seemed abit pointless to watch too me unless u like watchin guys walk thorugh some woods
like I said, when you know what your talking about, reply, I'm still waiting for you to know what you are talking about, maybe get a girl friend, stop playing with yourself and grow up, prick!!!
its my fuckin opinion u fail lol its free speech..i have a gf.... and the only time i play with myself is when i finish playing with ure mum u jumped up little dickhead its my oppinion and u wont stop me posting so stfu, and i gave positive feedback on another of this dudes vids so whats ure problem
Really really fine, I feel bad if I even mention the small flaws I think I see. Gear should look more worn, sweat stained, dont shave 4 3 days before doing the video. Look a bit tired, we were always tired. I noticed that pick/shovel - we never carried them - no noise digging night position - you NEVER want to give away your night position. Others out there - I ask did others carry pick/shovel on lrrp or small patrols? I'm army, I know the marines had other sop.
Thank you for your comments, we really do appriciate feedback from guys like you, then we start our full length video in the spring,we will take note of all the points raised and use them for the betterment of realism, we know we are only re-enactors and can only touch on how things were done by A RMY LRRP's and RECON Marines, The last thing we would want to do is offend anyone by making videos of the brave men who ran the bush during the Vietnam War,thank you once again have a good knew year.
Thanks for the feedback, you can never have too much authenticity. We are aware of all the problems you kindly informed me of and we are recruiting for more members and shopping for new kit all the time. These 2 videos were test pieces for a much larger project this summer, so we didn't get the kit spot on. Thanks again for the feedback, it's always appreciated.
One more thing ! When you find your last 4 men make sure one of them can get his hand's on an M-60 or an M-63 Stoner LMG . Add a few law rocket tubes to a few guy's pack's as well .
Recon balives in fire power . The more of it you'v got the faster you will break contact and get away !
2 big thing's to fix . 1st The guy in just green , he look's difrent so he might get shot at 1st . If you look difrent it tell's the enemy there might be something speacial about you . Get him a uniform that look's like your's .
2nd your team is short 4 men . Marine recon teams were and still are comprised of 7 men . I'm not hateing , only offering help . Other than that , DAMN FINE WORK ! Semper Fi .
Thank you for your kind comment. It is very gratifying when veterans appreciate my humble offerings. I am eternally grateful to all those who made such sacrifices in the name of freedom, whichever conflict that may have been in.
