I guess back then Austin could act as a heel as he ever wanted to act as a heel. As the Ringmaster it wasn't his persona getting reflected. Austin was a damn good heel and remained being funny and badass-like. I remember once when the Undertaker challenged Austin before their PPV match, Austin's music hit and they started a fight. He didnt back up from anyone.

Although Austin was a quite better face to my mind. Nevertheless - its still too sad Austin would have ended his active career so early.
