  • jk, I hate racism.

  • what's up with all those birds? does he live in the jungle?

  • What's wrong with that kid's skin?

  • Did it beep at all? My 3 week old Dell notebook does three beeps and nothing else. They say it's the motherboard. A tech is coming soon. Dell is still junk I guess.

  • The same thing just happened to me yesterday but it was directly after downloading a windows update, so I feel like that has something to do with it not working. I don't know what to do!

  • happened to me as well, and after they replaced the motherboard i havent had any problems with the laptop... its funny, everybody i know that owns this model has gone through the same thing

  • so these are basically the XBOX 360s of computers..

  • i hate dell

  • Dell will extend the warranty for laptops with this video card with 12 months: hxxp://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/direct2dell/b/direct2dell/archive/2008/09/12/nvidia-gpu-update-limited-warranty-enhancement-details.aspx

  • i have the same problem with my dellxpsm1530 and i fixed it. just pre-heat the nvidia chip in your motherboard, u can use airblower in just 10 min. and its done

  • This is a problem with the graphic chip in the motherboard, the video chip requires a service called Reballing.

  • Yeap! The exact same thing except that mine is not under waranty anymore :(. I hoped mine will be different when I bought it. It's said because I really love the design for this laptop.

  • The XPS M1330 / 1530 have the flawed Nvidia GPU. A new motherboard will fix the issue, but it will re-appear in the future.

  • same thing just happened to me too just then, had mine for over 3 years without a hiccup! Best laptop to have an XPS lols I've used it almost 8 hours everyday, not exactly sure where the problem is coz it worked absolutely flawlessly an hour ago, except that it has been getting very hot quickyl for past 8 months loll

  • @lucky540er : @monstrue1 : I too just got my motherboard replaced for the same laptop and had been using the laptop for three years. What's the life of the motherboard? You faced such issues again? Any specific reason for such failures? By searching on Google, I found the forums are flooded with such problems for XPS M1530.

  • @gamingventure : i've heard so many issues about the M1530 but i've faced none until now. I'm assuming something got burnt off on the mobo or the gpu, I sort of saw this coming, The overheating was the main indicator that it's gona give way soon. HDD should be fine though, I'm all out of warranty and there's no point repairing, cost wise

  • This is not true. As I explained in my initial post, the problem was solved after the motherboard was replaced.

Right now this laptop has another problem: The battery is dead. I'll attach a video as soon as I have some time.

  • @monstrue1

I had the same problem, the laptop is now repaired.

It was due to the updates I have installed. I will remember now not to install any 'recommended' windows updates anymore!

  • @monstrue1 Thanks! I am having the same issue right now and shopping for a new motherboard. $189 > $1200 for a new laptop. :)

  • As far as I can tell (being in the middle of this right now), this is all related to the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M chipset. NVIDIA is being sued over this and one other series because they are ALL defective. Dell announced they would extend the warranty for any issue related to this chipset. Dell won't tell you that though. They'll just keep loading new drivers which work temporarily but then fail again. Look at your System. It should show that Windows has shut down this card.

  • I JUST HAD THE SAME ISSUE YESTERDAY!:S so whats the answer? can do i fix it?:( please help mee :(

  • Hold Fn as it boots to do diagnostic boot and it will show a box to reboot after diagnostics it worked for me

  • @th3geoffypoo when i do the hold fn. it just shows me 2 flashing lights and one solid. what is the box?

  • This happened to me, twice.

At first my display kept flashing, freezing and distorts...

Turn on my CPU and it's just black..

the display or motherboard is messed up..

i got it re-sautered at some cpu place and it fixed! For a month (sux for me)

took it in to get it fixed and same problem again.. two times in a row..

I'm looking for a solution besides replacing the motherboard..

buy a new CPU (never going Dell again)

  • I purchased my laptop 17 months ago, and my last. I have also owned only "Dell" machines, but nothing as bad as the DELL XPS M 1530. The mouse pad went in 4 months, then the card reader. When turned on by the tech, white screen. His comment, " bad motherboard." He disected it again, the windows screen came on. I worked all day, this am it wouldn't. turn on, when I went back, it was so hot, it burned by lap had to take a rag to remve battery.

he left. During the next day, it wouldnt

  • i have the exact problem today. FCUK !

  • @HiddenMap whats the best way to fix it cause my warranty is done as well.

  • maybe its the invertor, was happening to mine, apparently the fan needed cleaning, it wasnt working well, and therefore got too hot and burned out the invertor or the video card, check that out

  • I had this exact problem last night. Is the only way to fix this problem to contact dell to replace it? My warranty is done, so does anyone know how much it would cost approx. to replace it?

  • @xtcnemesis yea...call dell to replace it is the best way..i would suggest you to renew your warranty so all the parts of the laptop can be insured...the warranty for 1 yr is around $380 while 2 yrs is around $450, so must as well take 2 yrs rite?? but u can call dell to confirm the price....

  • I have the same problem, id read somewhere and im not kidding because it works, you need to warm it with a air dryer, first remove the cover that expose the ram and cpu, warm it till 60 to 80° celsius for a minute or so and then try to boot again, they explain that the thermal paste for some reason its fragmented and causes some variation on the cpus voltage warming modifies-dont know how- the thermal paste so it can boot again, but turning offf and cool again wont boot

  • This just happen to me right now and i fixed it! i read a few comments and some guy said hold FN + F8 (LCD in blue) and it should display on a external monitor. but all i did was hold FN on the next boot and it came right up!

  • @Jstorm171 the problem still happens for me..

  • Buy a new laptop.

  • anyone found a good solution????i dont have a warranty

  • call them.

  • Does your laptop opens after shutting it off by pressing the power button long? Mine does exactly the same thing on this video, but it does it only sometimes. I tried ad it does it when I unplug my computer and open it on battery power after it stays plugged in for some time. I reported this probem to dell and they replaced the RAM but the problem is not solved. It is still under warranty.. What should I do? Should I call them, or is it covered?

  • I'm having the exact same problem. I'M MISSING OUT ON IMPORTANT TF2 TIME!! (haha)

If anyone knows a solution, do share.

  • I am having this issue now. Very frustrating if it is the MoBo as no longer in warranty period.

  • @cjrebelo yea...this is motherboard prob..this is actually an overheat prob..the dell has installed a faulty GPU which make the motherboard frying...

  • @cjrebelo yea it is a motherboard prob...it is an overheat issue....the dell has installed a faulty GPU which make the motherboard heat up very fast...actually dell has came out BIOS v12 to let the customer to download but this couldn't solve the problem...

  • Its a motherboard issue...look at the fan uner the comp(it should always run)...I can tell you that the fan has stopped in your case....The same issue happened with mine.

  • find a external screen or a tv ..plug it in to it next start it and when it boots hit Fn + whatever key has the lcd logo it should show up on the other screen if it does ..its your screen strip or screen itself get it from ebay for like 90 $

  • OK thx God i still have 308days left before my warranty out.

But i take the bottom Part of laptop out can i still return it and get it fix? or is it out of warranty?

  • Check your RAM to see if it somehow became unseated (popped out of its slot). You'll have to open the computer to do this so if your warranty is still valid just send it in, but if not then just find your RAM and push down firmly to make sure it is fully seated

  • Hi im have exactly the same problem.

one Question How do i know if im still under warranty?

    Pleas help me Thank u!

  • well its probably motherboard issue, the same thing happened to me...call dell and they will tell you if its covered.

  • OK i Have the same exactly Problem

But how do i know if im still under warranty?

    Please help me .

  • monstrue, how much u spend on the service??

  • $0.00 as it was still under warranty.

  • Hi guys,

Do you have any news about this ?

Was the CPU or the MoBo ?

    Thanx

  • it was the MoBo in my case. The technician replaced it and it worked. No problems since then.

  • Comment removed

  • so, guys, what is the problems actually??? have u guys fix it?? i'm reallt scared it's a motherboard problems..

  • it was the MoB in my case. The technician replaced it and it worked. No problems since then.

  • So, guys...what the exact problems?? can some1 tell me?? i'm really scared it's a motherboard failure...cost a lot man....

  • damn.. i have that problem... i was changing thermal paste and screen never back... but my laptop is out of warranty.. so i am like shit now

  • i got the exactly same problem dude

  • Can you tell me what is your gpu model?

Because i have the same problem, but dell told me the extend warranty is only for the 8400 (i have the 8600)

  • I have the same exact problem, going to call dell soon to see what they can do.

  • Comment removed

  • Hmm. I seem to have the same problem as you have. The computer turns on and runs, but the screen won't even turn on for me. I think it might be a wiring problem, but is it actually the video card or motherboard?

  • I am having the exact same problem with my m1530. Was working fine till I plugged an HDMI cable to hook it up to my HDTV. Thought it was just a matter of pressing Fn+F8 to get both screens to work. Now the laptop behaves just like in the video posted. Dell support says they will replace motherboard and AC adapter. monstrue1, how did it end up with your case?

  • Hi Gian,

The technician replaced my motherboard and it has worked without any problems ever since.

    Cheers,

    Monstrue

  • hey monstrue i know its been a year but i got the same problem are you sure that its the mother bpard because the technician will come in 1-2 days

  • nVidia has recently admitted that 24 laptops from both Dell & HP have bad/weak GPUs. These defective GPUs are from the mobile G84 & G86 family. Both laptop makers have agreed to extend the warranty of these affected laptops. Unless they replace the defective graphics card with an improved version, I would sell the laptop. The problem will never go away. Even with BIOS updates you're only pushing back the inevitable doom of the GPU.

  • i bought my xps m1530 back in february 2008 and they dont want to replace my motherboard and heatsink

im getting hi temps and even artifacts becuase of this gpu error

the laptop worked fine until october lmao

  • with your computer you should realy call dell for it, but please dont immediatley ask for a new PC,let the tech troubleshoot the issue, try connecting external display to check if the issue is just with the display, you can also try to run a hardware diagnostic test on it by holding down Fn key before you press the power button of the computer,it should run a PSA test,if PSA test was able to display and past all the test, continue with the other test that it has to further check your hardware

  • Looks like you changed some drivers?

sounds like a software problem not hardware

call dell or do the dell chat, theyll help you out.

  • If your warranty stil is in effect i would call dell and have them send you a new one. Also it can be a hard drive failure or other problems.
