katarina had the perfect combination of technical ability, artistry and charisma. She obviously cared about the story she was telling. A very deserving winner in my book.
@tinymavy They froze the ice too quicly which accounted for the appearance but the ice surface was acceptable and had no effect on the skaters in terms of quality
@metsdudenj Brian Boitano called it ' stamina ice,' when he spoke w/Scott Hamilton. If you were in great shape, it didn't affect the quality of the performance so you're right @ the ice but it took Rodnina/Zaitsev type ' back stroking '-which can be draining if you're not in excellent shape to work up to a 3/2 combo., or a 3XAxel.
This was actually her sixth Worlds',not fifth as the announcer mistakenly said. She competed in 1980 in Dortmund at Worlds as the 3rd entry for DDR-believe she finished in 10th; Hartford in 1981 -5th; Copenhagen in '82-where she finished 2nd; Helsinki in '83,-4th place; and Ottawa in 1984-which she won and of course Tokyo in 1985 which she won as well. This was the fourth consecutive time she won the Short Program @ Worlds. Thanks for the post! What a competitor! Always wonderful!!
I'm not sure but I think the name is Flamenco Fantasy-I don't know who wrote it- and the music is by Percy Faith. It's from the same CD as Malaguena and Granada-I think! ;-) Good Luck!
AWESOME LEGS and WOMAN!!!

She is just a great skater all around. So much class, not like today's skaters.
