If you listen to both bands' versions on Youtube, this song is played in C# here. But Slightly Stoopid's version is in the key of D. Slightly higher key (no pun intended). It makes a big difference. C# key is very epic, whereas the key of D is much more played out because of radio songs. The bassline and lyrics are also harder to pull off in UB40's version. Maybe that's subconsciously why it's generally more popular? That, and it's always hard to beat the original.

The first time I saw UB40 was the summer of 85 and The Pretenders opened for them. I saw them again in 88' and I can honestly say that they were two of the best concerts I've ever been to!
Shame Ali left, i have been listening to UB40 most of my life, i will still follow them, but it won't be the same as they all contributed to the band....
