  • In my opinion, you have missed the cheeky humour of this piece altogether. Take a listen to Thomas Allen and Roger Vignoles. The joke is in the final punch line and you don't bring this across. Remember that they are folk songs with a heritage which Britten enhances with the accompaniment.

  • @58227vocal I find this a bit narrow pronouncement of Davislim's interpretation. I adore Allen's version (and many others as well) - but don't need to see a "preference." While perhaps not to your liking, this is as valid an interpretation as any. I, for one, found it thoroughly captivating.
