  • I miss Jon Theodore...

  • It was a mistake getting rid of Thomas

  • @snooters Im sure it wasnt their decision.

  • @snooters dantoni is so good too though

  • @jhiser11 hell yeah he is. But at this rate they're going to run out of awesome drummers.

  • Damn, these guys are annihilating shit here!

You can hear a lot of Santana influences throughout. Like a hard as fuck, space rock Santana.

  • Goddayum, drummer has tons of energy! But damn their bassist is dead Lol.

  • @ultraray20 He was probably having an off day, some videos he goes nuts, and he's pretty old!

  • worst cameramen ever

  • increible! omar es un genio

  • 6:00 "yeaa...we'll do this over coffee"

  • i miss thomas....

  • To all people who don't like comparing them to Led Zeppelin : Yeah sure i agree, they sound different than Led Zeppelin, but come on, you can't deny that here is a little Led Zepp in there.

  • @flummapa There is a little LZ in any kind of modern rock.

  • His spanish accent is beautiful and heavy.

  • Nobody on earth is cooler then Omar when he has his groove on.

  • @megalomaniac46 Except TP. All the time.

  • Oh, and their drummer, is a fucking MONSTER!

  • @OmniTron1000 i know RIGHT!!! too bad he left.....

  • the world needs a band like this. Thank you Mars Volta.

  • How good is that intro!!!!!!!

  • Omar Rodriguez Lopez = Frank Zappa

  • BRING BACK PRIDGEN

  • I like both, so, nice to me!

Led in 70´s, Mars today!, What will I like in 2030??

  • tight as a prepubescent's vagina

  • what happened to the drummer?

  • @uhaveachode1 thomas pridgen, he like dicked around and they fired him at a soundcheck before a show. at least thats what i've heard

  • @LzrdKng9000 how did they play that show then?

  • @spastic017 i think they actually cancelled it. or they still played the show with him i'm not to sure on that aspect.

  • hate the singer

  • @ryandunncod4 why?

  • holy fuck this is crazy especially the intro and the guitar solos wtf not enough bands play like this

  • So glad i saw them with Thomas Pridgen. After watching a few vids from last weeks sonisphere I cant help noticing the energy isn't quite there. But Tom is so ridiculously good.

  • just saw these guys the other week with soundgarden n they blew me away

  • I had a buddy listen to No Quarter and he said, " Why haven't I heard this Mars Volta song before?"....

  • ron jeremy

  • I think this band is fucking amazing, sure you can draw comparison to other artists but ask yourselves one thing, what's the point?

  • John Bon Jovi + Rihanna + Enrique Iglesias + Led Zeppelin + King Crimson + Pink Floyd = Omar

Omar+ Cedric (Robert Plant + Rihanna + Your dad) + Ikey + Thomas = The Mars Volta

  • @zdunas23 bon jovi and rihanna where the hell did you get that idea?

  • The Beatles minus John, George, Paul, and Ringo and plus Jimi Hendrix's uncle's mailman with Bigfoot, Sarah Palin, the Sea Captain from "The Simpsons", and reggae infused raga punk=The Mars Volta!

  • @st3v3yb01 your gay, learn how to spell

  • @dynospectrum you spelled "you're" wrong in a comment about learning how to spell.

  • @Colenelly Lolololol..lololol..lol....

  • in my point of view mars volta is unique, ive never heard anything as this... but if i have to compare them to anything... THeir 60s equivalent must be SANTANA.... look... its a mexivan guitar player with a common mexican name (carlos...omar) a kick ass drum player.... and during their songs they do a "letsfucktheuniverse" space.

but i mean its the equivalent not their equal.

  • @Rim90 I agree with you about them being unique, but you're wrong. Omar is not Mexican, he is Puerto Rican. Cedric and Juan are Mexican. Omar is not a Mexican name, it's actually an Arabic name.

I don't understand why everybody thinks that they need to find the "60's equivalent" of bands today...or compare bands from today with bands from the 1960's or 1970's. It's stupid. They are completely different. Sure TMV might have been influenced by Santana, but their missions are different.

  • @12toedfeet meh.. i guess you're right... I just love this song. have you read the history of this album its so freaking awesome. and dark.

HEY YOUTUBE USERS IS THAT SO FUCKING HARD. GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER WE'RE ALL IN THIS SHIT AS ONE!!!! peace =)

  • @Rim90 Yeah, the album's history/inspiration is CRAZY! Actually, most of their songs seem to be really dark and disturbing when you really think about what Cedric is writing/singing.

  • Mars + Volta = Mars Volta

  • the unconventional sound of Mars Volta is basically flirting with genius.

  • Yeah, still a LOT of hair, dude!

  • lol people love to compare. THERE IS NO REASON TO DO IT. Listen do Zeppelin, they're fucking awesome. Listen to Mars Volta, they're fuckin awesome too. if u prefer zeppeling thats awesome, if u prefer mars volta, thats awesome too. The more u like the better, its a good feeling to like something. Just Enjoy.

  • Exactly Mars Volta is just themselves. I'm a fucking classic rock deadhead.

But Mars has their own unique genre. Their not trying to sound/act/live up to any band in the past. Music NOW is all that matters.

  • YOU GRINGOS THINK TOO MUCH IN COMPARE EVERYTHING, IS THAT THE CAUSE THAT YOU FEEL SO SMALL.. YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND MUSIC LBUT YOU ARE NOT IN THE SCHOOL.. YOU ARE NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT MARS VOLTA IS TRYING TO TELL YOU. MUSIC IS NOT FOR THINKING. DONT BLOW YOUR MINDS.. DAMN YOU ARE SO COMPETITIVE...

  • Omar makes me proud to be left-handed.

  • @F1ynner mars volta makes me proud of my ipod

  • that intro is AWESOMEEE

  • @ijustfartedsoloud I hope you're kidding...

  • @F1ynner about the plagerism? don't get me wrong, zepplin are amazing musicians, but watch the videos "led zepplin plagerism

  • @F1ynner go love zeppelin somewhere else, i would pick volta any day over them

  • @sebaba001 I prefer The Mars Volta, actually. Just what that guy said was ridiculous, considering Led Zeppelin were out in the 70s and The Mars Volta are 21st century.

  • 1:20 to skip talking. Straight to Goliath baby !

  • This is what you call legalized murder. Fuckin amazazing!

  • Black Sabbath + (Speed x Acid )+ helium(only for the vocals) = The Mars Volta

  • anyone with the whole, ZEPPELIN + RUSH ZEPPELIN + PINK FLOYD EQUALS MARS VOLTA MAAAN!!..... How about MARS VOLTA = MARS VOLTA...

    FUCK!

  • and by the way.... maybe zeppelin and rush... if rush was good?

  • @Yojimbo742 The Mars Volta = The Omar Rodriquez-Lopez Group! Hahaha...joking.

  • @Yojimbo742 The funny things is, Zeppelin and Floyd don't even really sound like The Volta.

I LOVE The Volta, they are my favorite band of all time, as of now.

    As for Zeppelin and Floyd?

Respectable classic progressive rock bands, but not something that I really enjoy.

  • слов нет, как поет )))ммм

  • Monster Hi-Hats

  • @MrJadams88

    i named them ride-hats

    lol

  • Viva el rock progresivo CABRONES!!!!

  • Best band from El Paso!!!

  • the art of a genius musician!

  • there is clearly a Zappa influence as well.

  • "lets start Goliath just like this....." ..Like Refused do on deadly rhythm.........

  • @MonkeePunkee perfect

  • awesome intro

  • I don't understand how you can mention porcupine tree in one breath with the mars volta. There are very few bands of this class. If you don't know any else band, don't force yourself to mention any other band next to them. I just know one band aside of all the pioneer stuff, that plays in this psychedelic-like league: Ozric Tentacles.

  • tmv son re buenos musicos como me gustaria escucherlos en vivo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • each time I see my flag in there videos I get proud of it too, Viva Mexico!

  • @veryintricated PFFF pround of mexico? LOL!

  • @hjgfweuryfgwuyegfuyw

    Yes Sir. They're Mexican Chin@ones!!!!!!!!

  • i love his guitar... so simple ... single coil and a volume knob... :D

  • @masterbeat04 Actually...that is a humbucker. It's in the form factor of a single coil, and the sound somewhat resembles a mini-humbucker or even a P90. And he also has an Ibanez AX-120 with dual humbuckers. And he had a Squier in At The Drive-In, but, I don't think he uses it anymore.

  • @jacobdallen2 oh ... if that's the case, i still love his guitar...

  • @masterbeat04 You can buy one from Ibanez. They make a left hand and right hand version. It's not my kind of guitar since i play guitars with 25.5 scales and 24 frets...namely PRS Guitars. I absolutely loved Omar's Squier SuperSonic that he had when he was in At The Drive-In, though.

  • @jacobdallen2 oh dude..thanks for the info... i might wanna get that on my list...

  • He actually keeps his luggage in his hair.

  • I just pressed the 1911 button midsong and I nearly died.

  • "How many times was that?"

    "It doesn't matter."

  • i hate wwhen people compare them to Led Zeppelin

    they so much fucking diffrent...

  • @zdunas23 Jon Thoedore's drums sounded very bonham on Deloused, which is a good thing. Other than that, they sound more like King Crimsom and Yes than Zep. Their rock and roll swagger is very Zep though.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff

    agreed

They are something like modern day king crimson

  • @zdunas23 you'd be surprised. there's a tune on King Crimsom's 'Red' called 'One More red nightmare'. The drums Bill Brufort plays are the same idea as Joh Theodore's pattern in Ericatarka, the one in the chours. So not just modern King Crimsom. Actually, loads of rock guitar players, in particular James Iha, have taken Robert Friipp's type of guitar sound and made it part of their own thing. King Crimsom and that group of players have had a much bigger influence than we realise.

  • @zdunas23 and now I think of it, one of my favourite bands from the 90's, Soundgarden, dare I say it, pinched a riff from Yes. The opening riff on the tune Rihnosaur is very similar to a Yes tune called 'Long distance Runaround'.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff

    i know many ripoffs

for example check Porcupine Tree's Time Flies and compare it to Pink Floyd's Dogs and Sheep

  • @zdunas23 We should be careful using the word rip off LoL. We can be kind and say none of these were ripped off, rather the songs that sound like rip offs are 'homages' to the original LoL

  • @zdunas23 I think they're reffering to the vibe that they both exude. I feel it man.

  • @zdunas23 actually cedric compared led zeppelin with mars volta i dont see nothing bad with it

  • @zdunas23 mars volta is so much fucking better

    zepplin plagerized all their hits

  • @zdunas23 I keep saying the same thing!!! Thank goodness someone else realizes it too! I don't see why bands need to be compared with one another. TMV are COMPLETELY different than Zeppelin, their influences are different, and so are their mission. They are about entirely different things, but people just hear "Oh, wailing singer, guitar solo...they must be today's Led Zeppelin!" which is complete bullshit and kind of a silly way to listen or appreciate music.

  • @12toedfeet

    I love your comment

  • @zdunas23 Thank you, kindly!

  • @zdunas23 yes they are different but the comparison is about how they changed music... they both are mutations of music, the are both original... etc etc i could go on and on... but yes, the music of led zepp and marsvolta is not the same.

  • @zdunas23 yeah wdf with those guys? this is so different to LZ.

  • @zdunas23 vocally he is very similar too robert plant, and if you listen too the led zepp live album how the west was won, you will notice that the structures of the songs are alot like these guys, when people compair them too led zepp they dont mean that they literally sound exactly like them , for instance listen too heartbreaker by led zep, then listen too this, they could be the same band...except the mars volta play with more distortion and the guitars are a little more violent

  • @jackmaguiregerrard i love your word choice there......"violent"

  • Respond to this video... infact after listening to this all the way through, this song sound so much liek led zepplin haha

  • does anyone what microphone cedric uses? very interesting

  • why they fired the drummer?

  • @k0stil He wasn't fired. He left.

  • @k0stil They don't say specifically, but I believe he didn't like the direction the band was going in. If you listen to Octahedron, it's a lot more subdued than Bedlam in Goliath, and as Thomas himself says, he plays "X-Games drums," so I believe he just needed more stimulation in his music. Check out his new band, the Memorials, they're really good.

  • @k0stil I get the feeling the two guys, Omar and Cedric are demanding, but unclear in what they look from musicians. What I mean is, I can picture Cedric as someone to play 'like a butterfly lost in a storm', that sort of thing. :) It would get tiresome after a while. Maybe Thomas just got bored by them.

  • I love Cedric's microphone.

  • ¡¡Para mí el mejor grupo de rock que hay actualmente!! Unos genios!!!!!!

  • I'll annoy you all I'm sure, but Deloused is still the best thing they have done. What a record that is!

  • fuckin hell

  • Only 150162 people have enjoyed this? WTF? people, come and hear this right now!!!!

  • Latin Robert Plant?

  • The best band that actually is still playing.

  • I'm all out of poop, but I know you can resuscitate

  • thomas pridgen is using a 22'' or 24'' k light as his main crash... awesome

  • That singer's range blows my mind every time I hear them.

  • @sXeSnowmansXe The highest he can go, as far as i know without going into falsetto, is a C6 and i think the lowest is A2. Cedric Bixler has an amazing volcal range.

  • i just found out about this band like a month ago, haven't stopped listening to them. they make tool look like psychedelic amateurs.

  • he rarely speaks but its worth being there when he does

  • "We're not that far out as people claim we are"

*proceeds to be The Mars Volta*

mmm-hmmm. you just proved your point, omar.

  • Fucking great band!!

  • This has such a fucking awesome riff in it.

The Mars Volta are definitely one of my all-time favourite bands.

  • @gregorisgod its actually lifted from the bass line of a betty davis song. i forget which one, but youtube a few of her songs and you'll notice the similarity to Larry Johnsons bass in a number of her songs.

they rocked it quite a bit harder tho

  • Funny thing is... These guys don't like being compared to Led Zep. They actually had the idea of creating something more along the lines of the original Pink Floyd lineup...

  • Just starting to discover these guys...not sure if i like everything i have heard yet, but so far The Widow and Goliath are good tunes...

  • @LinBar10 You about to have your head.... Um... You like it.

  • @LinBar10 It takes some getting used to, I suppose.

  • INCREDIBLE....... :D

  • BTW those are some big ass cymbals Thomas is playing :O

  • better than Led Zep. i'm not trying to troll or anything, i'm just saying that i'd rather listen to TMV. like omar says, "it depends on what you want to hear" :)

  • @tokarev445 bold statement. no way you should even compare the two. totally different style

  • @ReggaeMusic3 he was just stating his opinion. said he'd rather listen to TMV than Zep, nothing wrong with that.

  • @ReggaeMusic3 yeah i know, but i'm not the first to compare them though. Led Zep is a great, GREAT band don't get me wrong. they've influenced countless bands with their style, like TMV. yet i'd rather listen to TMV because they take what Led Zep introduced in the 70's one step further, and for a contemporary listener like myself, it keeps the music sounding fresh and interesting, albeit a tad more to digest.
