  • I saw this live, greatest show on earth,,... EXCELLENT

  • Everything they play live sounds better to me than the studio versions, true mastery of their craft. Sierra as a youngin' playing with world class musicians just like she owns the place.

  • Sierra is growing into another superstar...just like Alison...please check out her latest stuff on Youtube...

  • Would love to hear Allison do some of the fiftys and sixtys love songs, Misty, wonderful wonderful.....etc

  • That little girl is AWESOME...shredding on the mandolin

  • GOD BLESS THE LITTLE ONES.

  • 'There's a restless spirit knocking at my door today

There's a shadow hanging 'round my garden gate'

Does anyone else get the chills that this haunting lyric is set to such a sweet melody?

All the musicians playing this night are extraordinary here as well.

  • Look how Alison smiles over Sierra's playing. I love Alison's heart. Not long ago Alison stood on stage as a young gifted girl and now she gives back whenever she can.

  • This is some seriously lovely music, deep and full of life!

  • HONKY! THIS! IS NOT! JAZZMUSIC!!!

  • How Could Someone Not Like This Video. It Is Fantastic!!!!

  • she had an angelic voice....!!!!!!!!!

  • They Are Both Amazing... Got To Meet Sierra & Her Brother When They Performed With The Isaac's In Jamestown Tn... Got Their Autographs & Lots Of Pictures... They Sure Do Have A Bright Future Ahead of them.... May God Continue To Bless Them...

  • they are all amazing

  • wow!! now that entertaining and so awesome! cheers for Sierra!! she was awesome :)

  • I love her so much! My favorite, hands down.

  • I wouldnt walk across the street to get lady ka ka's autograph but id run for a mile to get Allison's or Sierras!

  • holy snickers that kid knows how to play!!!!!!!!

  • this is what i love about Allison Krauss, she sounds the same if not better live than she does on all her albums. there arent a whole lot of bands and singers that i can say that about. and that sierra hull is amazing with a mandolin!!! I am going to pick up one of her CD's the next chance i get.

  • Great song

  • Damn, sixth grade. That's it. I'm hanging up my mandolin and letting the real talent like Sierra Hull, Sarah Jarosz and Chris Thile do the instrument justice. Wow. And Alison always sounds like an angel.

  • that bass line is like all of the brave hearts of the world marching forth. its that powerful and moving

  • Lovely

  • That little girl can play!

  • What a great song. Sierra did it justice. Alison could play it alone on her fiddle and I would still come and pay to listen.......all of these folks here are remarkable musician's. Superstar's as individual's..........enjoy it for what it is. You want perfect.....give Jesus Christ a Mandolin and let Him play, then you'll hear perfect......

  • Memondca;

You need to understand the meaning of being 'overly critical'. Like gesikah14, I think young Ms. Hull made a small mistake at the end of her introduction. That's a small blemish in a wonderful, uplifting performance--to see that is not being 'overly critical'. You don't have to worship a performer to greatly admire her.

  • I love Sierra's face at 0:47, one itty bitty wrong pick, and she gives a face of disgust. So articulate, where did they find her, she has a bright future... :)

  • @gesikah14

Yes! At the end of the introduction, she gives that 'I'm so disgusted with myself' look after making the mistake. The mark of the perfectionist. Hopefully she doesn't take everything so seriously, or she'll suffer needlessly.

  • @sld1776 give me a brak she di it perfectly

  • @sld1776 It wasn't a bad thing she did just did a little chop

  • @gesikah14 disagree she hit the blend in perfectly

    you guys are tooo critical

  • @memondca second that!

  • @gesikah14 Actually it wasn't a bad thing it was just a chop after coming off the 5 chord back to the root chord and then kept cross picking.

  • I love them both!!! Soo talented!!!!!!! They don't attract negative media attention either =) haha! 5 Stars for sure!

  • @Alison42595 Ohhh no :) I was not trying to be a critic. I think she is amazing. I was stating mostly, that at her age, to have such an ear, and to hear what she is playing, and recognize it. You can not say that about too many young child musicians. It was more of a compliment than anything.

  • really nice.....

  • Don't you know that there is two proud parents back stage, I can just see in my mind how happy they are with good reason

    i

  • Ahhh the wee madolin player is soo tiny and seriously talented :D:D ♥

  • Very nice song, very nice voice, very nice mandolin playing by Sierra Hull, very nice video. Thank you! 5 stars!

  • the best "Every Time You Say Goodbye" version

  • Best song like ever!

  • Wow !!!!! Talented kid !!!!!!

  • Cant wait for the yukon bg festival 2010.

  • Absolutely amazing

  • some of you may not believe this but i have jamed w/ sierra once or twice. I play the bass and my dad plays the banjo. My dad and my uncle knows the guy the guy that taught her to play guitar. for those of you who like larry sparks my uncle jeff brown has used to play bass with larry and still sings tenor with him now and then.

  • I've met her twice. Once was backstage, shes awsome. Great personality.

  • Who? Alison or Sierra?

  • Sierra.

  • One of the best AKUS songs to date. Hasn't the band opened up its sound? To me this is a couple of bumps up from the album version.

  • Sierra is 17 now and is just as amazing on guitar as she is on mandolin and is becoming a good vocalist. She has the potential to be the next Alison, but she has to lose the cheesey bluegrass band of kids that she plays with and crossover to make it big.

  • what is "roots" music about "crossing over"?

you're right that if she wanted to make it big that's what she would have to do, but I don't think thats a good thing. Stay small.. but stay REAL.

  • I've always loved allison, but sierra is cute as a button. just an amazing young talent.

  • The true sign of genius is making something difficult seem easy & that's Allison's voice to a tee. She has no peer!

And as for Sierra Hull, who I'd never heard of until 2 minutes ago, I don't know whether to admire her adorable beauty or her amazing talent for any age, so I'll just appreciate BOTH! She's got a brilliant future if Allison plays with her.

I've loved Allison for years & now I love Sierra! You go girls!!

  • This little girl has a future..!! Awesome..!!

  • Doesnt get any better than this. Love this song to death and Sierra Hull just made it that much more spectacular

  • Awesome song, perfectly performed.

  • Here we have a team of two in total sync...one's a human, the other an instrument, yet the sound comes as one and it's a glorious experience. Marvelously done.

  • The voice of Alison Krauss, to listen is to love but to describe is imposssible.

  • Awesome, Brilliant. Much better live than on cd. More Please!

  • Oh my, Alison's better live than on the CD! I never realized how it limits her talent till now. And Sierra...she's going places!

  • I always thought the same thing.....her recordings are heavenly no doubt....but the fact that she is flawlessly AMAZING live....is just an unbelievable fact.....:))

    Kappa

  • Heard Alison live at night in Ct a couple summers ago. When she opened her mouth to sing it just blasted off the Hills of western Ct and seemed to float forever. i can still hear it. absolutely heavenly. Sierra's voice isn't as big but just as angelic. I told her she was " a gift from god" and meant it. She lowers my stress level.

  • @olLonely OMG are you so right....need her music to help me mellow out from stress!!

  • Awesome song! One of my Favorites!

  • Watching this really makes me crave AKUS' new album. Can't wait to hear it when it's re;leased.

Watching Sierra now and how popular she is was no surprise back when this was taken.

  • I heard its all new stuff!

I'm looking forward to hearing something new from Sierra too!

  • If we could hear how angels speak, I'd bet it would be pretty close to how Alison sings

  • what I like is that they introduced her--and then treated her like another band member.

They played the tune straight up and didn't make it into a freak show.

Sierra hung in there and got the job done.

You really can't tell the difference between this version--and the original.

    Geoff

  • I hope you checked out "cluck old hen" played after this one. instrumental that showcases Sierra & each musician. watched Sierra play live 4 times this summer. WOW

  • @vito336 Agreed! Mind you, how could you NOT respect her as another band member. She's unreal! And plays guitar equally well!

  • @velvetunderpants44 lol, not guitar. mandolin. bbbiiiggggggg difference there. ^_^

  • @velvetunderpants44 I DO know the difference- I happen to play both.

She DOES play guitar equally well.... Did you not understand?

  • @vito336 dead right brilliant

  • Look at that girl go!

    Both of them

  • Does anyone else start crying everytime it gets to 1:23?

  • When's Allison going to do this a capella

  • I recently downloaded Alison's Hundred Miles or More Album - brilliant. I'm off now to download Sierra's album

  • So young and god on a Mandolin.

    Amazing

    Patrick want more of this

  • Wow, Perfect live, The connection with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss open a door for those who dont listen to either Blue Grass or Rock`n Roll, Music is music, Ok this is not Plant and Krauss but via Plant i discover i found my way to this eminent music that past my way, i took my time and now i love it

    Thanks

    Patrick

  • Isn't that a beautiful thing? Words can't describe what music does.....

  • I could not agree with you more...

  • Great Song

  • Allison you have been one of my favorites for years. I am now 35 and remember listening to you when i was in high school and I still love your songs.......

    Stephanie

  • That's bluegrass and what about that Mandolin player, isn't she great

  • She's now about 18 and is an amazing guitarist/mandolin player. Check out her version of Roanoke on Youtube from a few years ago- she has faster fingers than Van Halen, Stevie Ray, whoever...simply amazing!

  • pretty song

  • Timeless talent.

  • i love this song so much and her voice just is amazing! gotta love alison krauss! I remember hearing this song when I was little cuz my parents are huge fans of hers and now so am I. :D

  • someone please post "tonight i'll be lonely too." please

  • Lovely face

  • As Jerry Garcia said, the cat's out of the bag. Little the man can do now but struggle. Long live music!

  • That extra beat after "there's a restless feeling knocking at my door today" always throws me off. It's nice how the 6th grader gets it and just keeps going. But it throws off my foot tapping every time. Beautiful vocals.

  • I checked for that beat and think the count is correct. They do come in late though I think that is intentional since they do it at that section every time. Being a female player myself, I really appreciate what Sierra is going to become. She is good now she is destined for greatness.

  • their able to make you just want to sing their wonderful

  • Nice of Alison to give "The Future" a chance to be onstage with her. Favorite and top rating for a top job....thank you.

  • wow

  • There's an awesome lot of talent here! Good track! Greetings to everyone from Jarrahnut in Jarrahdale, Western Australia.

  • beautiful sound.

    so graceful....

  • I love all music(except rap aka crap) espically country(and music like bluegrass) and rock

  • Superb singing, playing and ensemble. Just about the best there is.

  • i like all kinds of different music, but songs like this by alison and union station just put me in a trance like no other

  • Very pleasant sound.

  • awesome, wholesome, pure, love it.

  • Oh My, what can you say? That kid can play that mandolin, and isn't Alison an angel on that fiddle? If there is one thing The good ole USA can be proud of, it's bluegrass and ain't nothin' in the world nowhere like it! PICK IT! Osama BL and the Saudis can kiss our oil-swilling a**es, we got BLUEGRASS.

  • @bmarlin611 typical example of how culture, in the hand of an idiot like you, can become a shame instead of a richness..... you fool

  • @alephuno, bmarlin's comment may have been a little crude, but you have to admit it is all true

  • @bmarlin611 It' because of jerks like you that bluegrass, tremendous music that it is, gets branded as being for bigots and hicks- like you. the music is marvelous, and that young girl is brilliant. You're a moron.

  • Too good for words. REAL American music.

  • Awesome. Alison n co. sound perfect every time, and Sierra Hull is simply humbling. Her talent continues to grow. Amazing.

  • really nice playing from everyone...

  • I hope I get just as good as Alison

  • WONDERFUL!

A group of gifted musicians, this lot is.

Cant find as sterling musicians as this lot.

  • I like this song its a nice song.

  • God bless the USA, your music and people are truly wonderful.

thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • I like both AKUS and Sierra. I'm glad to know there's a kid who loves to play the Bluegrass. I llke the way that AKUS giving a chance to a new shining star to play on the stage. That's great!!!

  • i agree total composure the sister video cluck old hen i watch once a day

  • Sierra Hull's performance is remarkable, not only because that intro is EXTREMELY difficult, but because in bluegrass music the mandolin player is the equivalent of a drummer. She shouldered a tremendous responsibility in terms of holding the whole groove together.

  • just shows the influence Alison has on young kids , this is my son's favourite and he's 6 , what a voice

  • unFreakinBelievable!! I am amazed by that youngin's talent!! I LOVE AKUS!!

  • Her voice always gives me goosebumps. I love it.

  • Alison Krauss' voice is nothing short of amazing ... so pure, flawless. And Sierra Hull also is incredible. I'm quite jealous of their talent, but I'm sure a lot of work went into it as well.

  • THEYRE WONDERFUL

  • Anyone know how Alison and Union Station met this amazing girl? If only I could even slightly play an instrument! She is amazing! All of these musicians are amazing and so is their music! Long live AKUS (or is it AKAUS? Someone correct me, please!))

  • Allison should have hired Sierra immediately. If anyone is equal to the task of playing with the world's finest bluegrass band, Sierra could do it very well! IMHO

  • I do not know if Miss Hull will ever read this, but listen to how she totally enhanced and widened the tonal spectrum of the song during the second verse. That is class with a capital C!! She is the finest mandolin player I have heard to date. Remarkable!

  • How old is Sierra?

  • 6th grade in this video, 15 now

  • i love this song, i can't believe how perfectly this little girl plays

  • did allison say birdstown or bardstown

  • Sierra's from Byrdstown, TN.

  • byrdstown

  • Just too amazing! True American music on many instruments invented here. Rock can take a back seat for awhile. I must play bluegrass, the most articulate of all guitar playing. Anyone know where this band hails from?

  • "Anyone know where this band hails from? "

They're from all over, but I think most of them live in the Nashville area.

  • Alison is from Champaigne IL, Dan Tyminski is from West Rutland VT, Jerry Douglas is from Warren OH, Ron Block is from Torrence CA, Barry Bales is from Kingsport TN

  • Listen to her climb between 1:36 and 1:38, 2:45 and 2:48, 3:10 and 3:12 minutes.

  • And that dobro player.....he's AMAZING!! I will never understand how they can smilke when singing such such songs , mostly about a failure of the human heart and spirit? I wish I played in Union Station....gthat would be a prayer well answered to sit in with Alison Krauss & Co. There has rarely been such a grand compilation of human genes, as in the wonderous and indefatigable Alison Krauss! What a voice!!!!!!!???!!!! Great!

  • "And that dobro player.....he's AMAZING!! "

Well, it is Jerry Douglas afterall.

"how they can smilke when singing such such songs , ...I wish I played in Union Station....gthat would be a prayer well answered"

    Maybe that's why they're smiling!

    "indefatigable"

Now that my friend, is a rarely, but very aptly used term.

  • In Sandy Ego it's near impossible to get folk to practice in a rock band, let the alone find the time to articulate bluegrass. BG just looks easy. It is actually extremely "picky", as they say. Even a short song takes many hours of practice, and then there's no extra Allison Krauss' to sing? Many musicians, only one AK. Say, that's also Alaska! Now that makes some sense...last frontier, last singer, and both the best.

  • "Picky" indeed. I've been trying to teach myself dobro for a couple of years and never seem to have enough time to make much progress :-( Oh well, it's still fun to just pick around with.

"last frontier, last singer, and both the best. "

Well I don't much about Alaska, but Alison Krauss is definately the best at her game!

    Have a great weekend!

  • Say, U 2! (great weekend). Keep practicing! It's those bluegrass notes...the special one's...no, not the A's and B's....it's those crazy K's and S's!!??!!

  • HAHAHAHA You're quite the punster, as well as very perceptive. You win! Many people think my name is "kay", when in fact it's a nonsense username derived from my original nonsense username kkkssskkkssskkksss. Too many people accused me of being a racist/nazi, so I changed it.

    Have a good.

    k's'

  • Dobro, eh? Very, very cool. That Jerry Douglas sure can bend those "holler" notes around? Just watch him and play along. I play along with AK & US all the time. It's fun. Almost like playing with them if you squint yer eyes. Alison sure is a blessing. The more I listen the more I like. These guys are REALLY GOOD!!

  • "Just watch him and play along. I play along with AK & US all the time."

I'm not that good yet. I haven't even mastered the basics. Things in life like remodeling a whole damn farmstead tend to get in the way of musical hobbies.

    Someday though...

  • Music is love. Love is sharing. Music is to be shared by all those still with a heart big enough to share. Remember, life is very short, but you must pause to smell the rose and watch the sun rise. Without that, there is no life. There is time for work, and a time for play. You must find balance. Music is not a hobby, it is love. Would you stop loving your dog because you are remodeling the farm? Har, avast there, turn about before you hit the rocks! You may be going the wrong way?

  • All good advice my friend. We still take time for things that are most important, top of the list is spoiling the dogs, cats, horses, and even the wild birds. In fact, our current most pressing remodeling project is to re-skin the barn, while we live in a 100 year old home desperately in need of updates. It's a tough balance and as such, music has had to take the back seat for a little while. We're doing a shock attack on the remodeling so that then we can enjoy the rest of our days .

  • Well, landsakes...that old barn "skin" is highly prized by Beigelander industrialists and money lenders north of the Mason-Dixon. Maybe even sell the old wood on Ebay? Or, contact remodelers and let them know how many board feet you have. That old hand sawn wood is used to great extent for inside paneling out in the Hamptons and in Beverly Hills. You should be able to sell it, buy new wood and have money left over for a new Gibson F4 mandolin! I

  • Actually, the old siding is too deteriorated to save. Otherwise, we would paint it. Too much neglect from previous owners. So, we're going with a steel product that is nearly indistiguishable from lapped siding from more than 50' away. Then, similar stuff on the roof. Best part is it still looks like an old barn. Also, if you take the old stuff off it ruins the character of the interior. Weird folks us, who worry about the character of their barn!

  • Bluegrass is really amazing! All the players are playing this happy melody, beautiful Alisson smiling and melodic.....and the message of the songs heart rending and grievious. It's all like an American business deal, all flowers and "save big", but you pay through the nose. Bluegrass is just too cool, and Krauss is the best ever!~

  • I like this song its a nice song. It puts a smile in my face.

  • wow, for a 6th grader, sierra has a hell of alot of talent. how many kids her age gets a chance to jam with a national caliber band like allison krauss? this kid is going places.

  • She's 15 now..her birthday is in a few days so I guess she's 16? not sure on that one..she may only be 14 now but yea. That opening on the mando was the highlight of the whole song for me.

  • I've always enjoyed AKUS, but that young girl amazes me with her talent- I shouldn't be suprised, Allison Krause came out with the first album at quite a young age as well.

  • Allison just gets better and better and better and BETTER as time goes by. I cannot get enough of the sweetest voice in music today. That beauty(Allison) could melt the very gates of Mordor with those tones! I sure wish I was in the band, Union Station! Now that would be the ultimate answered prayer!

  • I have known Alison since she was 14 yrs old. We played music all night until the sun came up. At the end, all I could say is "Wow, this kid is going to be somebody." Go see her in concert. I've been so many times I can't count. The hair on the back of your neck will stand straight. The group is so polished & professional. These are folks that love what they do.

  • You know wot? It's a month later - and I still love this tune. D~

  • Awesome and more

  • What a talented child! Wow. I mean you come to expect genius from Gerry, Dan, Alison and the rest but for a child to be SO talented at SUCH a young age? Wow. Does anyone know what she's doing now since this video seems a few years old?

  • her voice is just true beauty

  • Now this is music! This is a very talented group of pickers that everyone should have the privilege of listening to.

  • if i close my eyes it sounds like adam steffey up there almost

  • Love this tune, thanke. D~

  • Yeehaa that was really outa this world

  • i hope she plays in europe. and in holland

  • Allison's voice and Sierra's picking are a wonderful combination on this signature piece from Allison and Union Station

  • I want Alison Krauss to sing to me if I'm sick...what an amazing voice.

  • Brilliant

  • Now, that's some world-class music. Thanks for posting this.

    -jcr

  • Good Lord she played the kick off the same way Adamn Steffey played it when he was in the band

  • Don't miss the video of her playing with Sam Bush. She's just as adept as Sam!

  • Thanks again for the great additions to our YT nation!
