  • I still have my original G5 that was bought on release day. With a simple mod you could install 8 disks in it. This is still a great disk server. Way ahead of its time. Isn't it also interesting that Windows must have specific 64bit OS/Programs. Why don't Apple need that? Why have Unix been 64bit since 1995 and Windows just recently?

  • I play on buying the dual 1.8ghz tomorrow for $275. Is that a good price?

  • @bgggbb Check out that it doesn't have liquid cooling and that it has an AGP Pro slot so you can put a better card.

  • nice! but the audio sucked...

  • still a cool machine!

  • I have an old one of these that's broken,

and it is now a night table.

    That is one Kick-Ass nightable.

  • I have one of these next to my bad as the most kick-ass bed stand ever!

  • Anyone who has one: does it run iTunes 10? Is it an ok computer for today's world? Please reply

  • Ibm sux!

  • I whont 1.

  • i have 1 and i love it

  • I have a 9yr dell 8200 dimension, it's still kicking quite well today, upgraded it along the way.

  • if apples Gx processors were so GOOD then why did apple turn to intel?**

  • Still a beast even now!!

  • Odd only until snow leopard did Apple actually deliver true 64bit processing.

  • I've got the G5 2.5 ghz dual processor model and recently swapped the video card for an nVidia 7800GS SC and I'm getting about 2000 fps OpenGL at 1920x1080. I'm pretty much maxed out for ram, I could add another gig. I've got about 3 TB of disc spinning inside the box and another 2 outside. If it blows up I'll grab the next Mac Pro or the like. It's been a great machine. That case will outlast the computer.

  • Let me buy it then.

  • i have this exact same computer and yea its 6yrs old going to 7 now and its till kicking ass ive been using it for video editing final cut pro studio and making music ive been through so much with this computer i still love it the only thing i have problems with it is my final cut pro software quits on me but usually that's not a problem to fix but now im thinking of replacing it with the all new Mac Pro Tower that apple just came out with.

  • wow. Mundane by today's standards; but one has to remember this was ~6 years ago.

With the new range of Nehalem MPs, you gotta wonder where we'll be in 5 years from now.

  • 16+ physical cores and 32 cores counting virtual cores. Just a guess. Next year or so will be 12 physical and 24 counting virtual.

  • wait so can this go up to 4 Ghz? Wow, my G5 only has 1.6. Jeez its slow now. I have an iMac with 2.66 Ghz and damn its fast! Hell yeah!

  • As a MacPro user, I can undoubtly say that those machines are indeed kick-ass computers.

Note 1 : Look! This case is sooooo beautiful that it's still used today :D

Note 2 : The real WTF is that the HDD shown at 1:28 are IDE drives, not SATA.

  • Alsome. Want ONE (Y)

  • wow. I am watching this on my G5. it is still faster than any gaming pc I have ever used!

  • Hooo! So you'll probably want to update to one of those new MacPro :P Just imagine, something up to 8 times as fast as the fastest G5 released AND it has Windows compatibility for gamming ^^

  • hey do u know if its possible to replace a g5 2ghz dual powermac cpu? cuz i just bought a powermac g5 for very cheap on craiglist, however it has a damaged cpu, is ther any way i ca get a different cpu?

  • This thing is still awesome!

  • my uncle has one of these

  • haha wow incartinetzer, that is 2003. THE FIRST 64 BIT COMPUTER.

  • are u stupid? seriously..this was in 2003 u dumb mofo

  • Im getting the mac pro xeon processor for free for working at a job its cost 2,799.99 thats kicks ass for fucking free. I also have mac thats just a screen and its sweet.

  • you lucky ass bastard (no offence just jelousy lol)

  • the mac pro has an intel xeon, not a core 2 duo.

  • Thanks for the input. I'll edit that in.

    Sorry for the missprint.

  • @needmac well, the truth is, the original Mac Pro used the Xeon. True. But the Xeon of that time was based on the Core 2 architecture... the only difference is that the Xeon of that time was a C2D that was built for industrial use; higher quality transistors and other internals :)

  • @devan12100 The architecture is not the difference between a Xeon and a "home" CPU. Xeons have interconnect for dual + more processors something that ordinary intels haven't had for generations. Xeons also have larger cache. "higher quality transistors" :) *hint* They Xeons and "home" intel's are manufactured from the same wafers.

  • @niceveritt it was a powermac g5

    not a pro

  • three years later the went to intel

  • G5 is REALLY a kickass machine even today.

hey i'm going to get Leopard today... it will blow Vista away another time

  • goddamn true

  • @Mat5913 The only problem with the G5 is that Apple have lost support for it after they moved to intel, if apple still fully supported it the Powermac G5s would still be a very fast and very usefull computer today

  • @Mat5913 Funny thing is I hated Macs before Vista came out. Now I hate Vista and love Mac xD

  • nice

  • old news vs a Mac PRo

  • omfg. lemme go get a cloth to wipe the drool off my keyboard.

  • i wish they had gone onto the g6

  • I don't or the laptop would have been huge, thats the reason they switched. the PowerPC G5 chip was too massive for a notebook

  • it used up way too much energy to be ina laptop too
