Kid has a good swing for eight years old. I have to agree with kablamo89 though. The bat looks heavy for him and he would have a more level and more powerful swing if he held onto the bat all the way around. Also, he is a little late so i would slow down all the movement in his hands. Just keep the bat still and then recoil when the ball is about to be released. He will have more time this way and hit the ball on the meat of the bat and won't be so late.
good swing for an 8 yr old. I'm sure you've given it a shot but in my opinion the tee is the best learning tool for any age. It teaches four very important fundamentals. Keeping your head down eyes on the ball, hitting the top half of the baseball, keeping your hands high, and with repetition will reduce unnecessary lower body movement. Pitching to the kid's keeps them interested and is productive but the drills are where you develop a great swing
Baseball is so fun man, I havent played in years but im starting again. It's the greatest sport, just going onto the field with that fresh smell of newly laid chalk its great... Good Luck to J-Rod
I'd say J-Rod's swing looks very good for an 8 year old! I've been going through a swing transformation with my 11 yo son. You can see the progress we made on my channel.
J-Rod seems to be a rotational hitter, search rotational hitting Mike Epstein. You can send your sons swing to them and they can slow down the video and give you things to fine tune.
I highly recommend the Epsteins, nice people and have teaching how to hit down to a science.
dang!!!!! this kid is going to be good!!!! ill remember the name... Jarod Strus right? and yeah im not a baseball player but it seems like he needs to keep both hands on the bat... again not a baseball player but just saying. Good Luck!!!
He could get more of a weight transfer. Squish the Bug is a common phrase for teaching a young hitter to pivot his hips to generate power but the problem is that great hitters DO NOT Squish the Bug. Watch MLB hitters like Pujols Howard or ANY of them. Their back toe is pointed straight into the ground and sometimes even OFF because all of their weight is transfered forward through the swing. It's impossible to hold that position so they then fall back which makes it look like they Squish the Bug
I am going to post multiple comments because of the lenth-limit. Pretty good stroke. Obviously, at 8 years old, everything's not going to be PERFECT, but a few things to consider:
1. Like someone else said, keep the front foot closed on the stride. Pointing the front toe naturally opens the hips a little too soon, and causes the back shoulder to dip, which causes pop-ups. Opening the hips to soon will also cause you to lose bat speed.
the best advice i can think of for this kid is to hold on to the bat all the way through. if you watch the best contact hitters in the major leagues they all follow through all the way. I am a baseball instructor for middle to high schoolers and i would suggest he stops pointing his front toe towards the pictcher in his swing. make sure he points only the side of his foot towards him. Hope this helped a little bit. message me if you want anymore feedback.
Thx for the feedback. He usually finishes with both hands high, but he said he was being lazy. We're trying to work on that front foot, but that's hard for a kid. Any other advice is welcome. Thx again.
swing is sweet but way too long on the bat or heavy. nice loop through the zone

great hitter just tell him to follow all the way through!

he would do better if he'd finish his swing and not let go of the bat
But this is good.

he needs faster bat speed its too slow for the ball you can tell the ball stops the bat which isnt good
