The term Gypsy really has nothing to do with the people who are called it, and no these women are not Gyspies. They are Banjara, an indian term meaning "Movers". Very peaceful productive discussion. I am a 6th generation American Rromni, who's Momya came from the migrations from Rumania, Russia. romanes first language. I was raised within the full customs,subculture. I disagree with the comment that Our women have little to do with the womens ways, I see many familar distinctions among us. As is usual, people tend to over react to these issues. Many Roma people refer to themselves as gypsies, so it's not like it's worst thing that can happen. Whether it's an insult or not depends a lot on who's using the word and the context. Also, the European Roma people are most definitely *not* a homogeneous groups. Some have hung on to aspects of their ancient culture, but most would have absolutely nothing in common with the young women dancing in this video.

I am from a Romani family and all my family especially the elders find the term "Gypsy" as an insult. We are not Egyptians we are Roms. Pharaoh and those that built the pyramids were Gypsies. People mistook the Roms to be these people when they arrived in Europe and the name has stuck.

I never thought of it like that. but yeh, exactly. Is there a polite & correct name to call the Native Americans instead of Indians? I've seen it written Amerindians, but again this is an insult to them as they are genetically more like Siberians than Indians. The word India comes from the Sanskrit word 'Sindhi'. Sin meaning water as Hinduism is connected with water (river). To call Americans 'Sindians' is completely wrong as there is no connection.

Not every native American refers to themselves as "Native American" though. My great grandfather always called himself Indian (he was 3/4 Sioux/Cherokee mix). A lot of the Sioux still refer to themselves as Indians.
