For those of you who do have an Intergrated Intel GPU Chipset, this is the fix. The Compatibility was flawless, as soon as I installed it, bam, Fallout 3 worked perfectly. I Thank the group who made this possible, you really fixed the issue withouht a complex process. And those of you who use Norton Anti-Virus software, disable your firewall and Anti-Virus auto protect when trying to download the file, it is legit, but due to nortons programming, it see it as a virus. @BigCesarable hey man got the solution, in case u didnt found it yet, the only thing u need to do, is reinstall the game, then, before everything else, make sure ur My Games folder dont have a Fallout 3 folder, if it does, delete it, t hen place the d3d9.dll on your fallout 3 rood folder, then done, no need to do anything else of the things on this video, it worked for me hope it works for you ! greetings Iruz.
Just one small comment to people for who the bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2 solution doesn't seem to work. Be aware there are two ini files. One in the game directory is called falloutdefault.ini, which I edited without result. But there's is another in the same location where your games are saved, named fallout.ini. I changed this one and voila, it worked. Fallout, including 1, 2 and New Vegas: the best game series ever made for the PC!

Try editing BOTH fallout.ini and fallout_default.ini. Fallout.ini is located at "C:\Users\*your username*\Documents\My Games\Fallout 3" (windows 7). Make the same changes as you did to fallout_default.ini. I did this and my game works now. I also noticed that the gamefile at my games was called fallout3, I changed it to fallout 3. I don't know if it matters, but just to make sure.

@dashiellfarewell Did U do this part Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 Find the line: bUseThreadedAI=0 change it to: bUseThreadedAI=1 Add another line after it and insert: iNumHWThreads=2 This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze. OR iNumHWThreads=1 Which will limit to ONE core. What r ur specs on ur pc.

When I download the d3d9dll thing it forces my pc to play with the integrated graphics card ( intel G M A 3000) and not my midis one. This is kinda annoying because I cannot play the game on high settings

Downloaded and scanned the D3D9 file with Panda and Avast antiviruses, clean. Reduced crashing and made the game run even smoother than it did (it already ran smoother than a baby's bottom), in fact, disturbingly so. Certain effects run too fast, but it does what it says on the box, at least mostly.

Does the file fix the problem of random freezes? My fallout 3 runs fine for like 30 minutes, then freezes. Restart game, i only have about 5 minutes before it freezes again. This keeps happening, will this small file solve that?
omg you guys i fixed it. i actually edited the .ini file that was in my steam folder, but you are supposed to go to documents/my games/fallout 3 and open the one named "FALLOUT" and edit it in there. it runs perfect now :D

f**k i have a intel hd graphics 3000 it runs crysis 2 on medium with bearly any frame dropage but it cant run a game with a engine from 2006(the fallout 3 engine is from oblivion)

guys this works and if u didnt kno, this works on steam to u jst have to go to programs or programs(86x) go to steam steamapps common then drop it in ur fallout 3 folder

Sigh nothing works, the game worked just fine the last time i played it..now its unplayable, New game, birth then crash crash crash and guess what? Crash crash crash oh and some more crash crash crash, good thing i got the game on my Xbox360 or i would have not been able to play at all.

First and foremost; Do NOT install your games into your Program Files folders when running WinVista or Win7! They have extra security measures such as your root, Users and Windows folders have also. Do yourself a favor and install your games into a dedicated Games folder, such as C:\Games or even better, a separate HD altogether. Why game developers still insist that most games should be installed into Program Files is seriously beyond my comprehension.

f**k i have a intel hd graphics 3000 it runs crysis 2 on medium with bearly any frame dropage but it cant run a game with a engine from 2006(the fallout 3 engine is from oblivion)

guys this works and if u didnt kno, this works on steam to u jst have to go to programs or programs(86x) go to steam steamapps common then drop it in ur fallout 3 folder

didnt work for me but i didnt try all the things im on an intel core i7 windows 7 x64 when i hit play on steam it opens a thing with options and all i hit play on that and it crashes it worked before i tryed installing the windows live thing now it wont get to the games main menu so idk what to do i uninstalled and re installed but still wont work

Sigh nothing works, the game worked just fine the last time i played it..now its unplayable, New game, birth then crash crash crash and guess what? Crash crash crash oh and some more crash crash crash, good thing i got the game on my Xbox360 or i would have not been able to play at all.
I guess i have to keep playing on my xbox 360 cause apperently you have to have a IQ of 300 to start a new game on a computer.
And yes i have tried every thing i could find on google and youtube.

First and foremost; Do NOT install your games into your Program Files folders when running WinVista or Win7! They have extra security measures such as your root, Users and Windows folders have also. Do yourself a favor and install your games into a dedicated Games folder, such as C:\Games or even better, a separate HD altogether. Why game developers still insist that most games should be installed into Program Files is seriously beyond my comprehension.
