I saw a magpie attacking one of these things. The bird tried crushing the head but the centipede's tail pinchers raised up. The bird pecked the centipede's tail and the head with its jaws would strike - the bird couldn't win.

@mrtrixxxter True, they are difficult to kill by just stomping on them, as they can be very hard when they mature. Insectiside and kerosene does not kill them as easily as other creatures. One night I chopped one into 3 pieces in the yard, and thought it was dead, but by the morning, 2 pieces walked away and 1 piece I found walking some yards away! So now I smash them with a big piece of wood or iron. Sevin powder keeps them away, & also kill. Trinidad where I live has some world record sizes.
