from an evolution point of view, insects like these are brilliance, beautiful and almost 'perfectly engineered', but no chance in hell would i choose to have these bastards on our planet xD so horrible xD
I saw a magpie attacking one of these things. The bird tried crushing the head but the centipede's tail pinchers raised up. The bird pecked the centipede's tail and the head with its jaws would strike - the bird couldn't win.
@servbot42 A friend of mine told me they are harmless. They just bump into things and they rarely bite. He gets freaked out when one touches him though. lol I would scream like a little girl if one touched me.
I'd avoid that fucking thing like the plague... My only fear is centipedes and millipedes... A bit irrational, but they're horrendous. Give me a spider and I'll lick that shit but give me a 20 ft pole and I'd still not touch one of these motherfuckers
@mrtrixxxter True, they are difficult to kill by just stomping on them, as they can be very hard when they mature. Insectiside and kerosene does not kill them as easily as other creatures. One night I chopped one into 3 pieces in the yard, and thought it was dead, but by the morning, 2 pieces walked away and 1 piece I found walking some yards away! So now I smash them with a big piece of wood or iron. Sevin powder keeps them away, & also kill. Trinidad where I live has some world record sizes.
@zjd92 It could be lethal, but not often, but if it bit your foot for instance, the foot would swell up like a football, an you wouldn't walk for a couple days.
@zjd92 They are venomous. It's not lethal, but it'll cause some pretty horrific swelling, severe muscle cramps/pain/sweating, and generally hurt like hell.
It could conceivably be lethal to an infant or small domestic animals.
i had one, it was blue with yellow legs, red tail and head. forgot the scientific name. the ones from mexico and southwestern US are very colorful and awesome.
@TheLizardLover Whe got these in Puerto Rico... There about a feet long, inch and a half wide, hard shell, and OMG they scare the crap out of me whenever I see one. Really f*&^&ing disgusting sh&T!!!
@peace36660 Oh, I do. When I was given the priveldge to hold the rhinoceras beetles in Costa Rica's Monte Verde Biological Research Station, I was tickled pink. I love large insects, and have bred multiple species of Canadian insects (Although no where NEAR as large).
@TheLizardLover yesssss, but you'll probably find it in your shoe just as you're about to walk out the house...and these things have the nastiest bite out of any centipede...
I figured the audio would be "OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT!"

When it runs away it reminds of the castle scene in Monty Python and The Holy Grail. "RUN AWAY RUN AWAY AHHHHHH!"
Those things creep me out, but I don't advocate killing them because of it. They're a cool predator.

when i stay in thailand i don't care about the scorpions or spiders...its the poisonous centipedes that keep me on my toes...

This isn't as big as they get, people. Some are as large as snakes. Just look up "A Huge Centipede Fighting A Snake" by ChngClarence.
