  • @dtiydr yeah it's more in demand now because of their situation so the prices raised. we weren't complaining about it recently (or at least I wasn't) because the prices had dropped down and kept dropping. got down to $3.25 a gallon just a couple weeks ago and now it's $4 and up.

  • What happened to the poor guy who drove this truck ? Did he die ?

  • fatality?

  • I don't know whether half these people are just 10 yrs old and dont understand or if they are just ignorant. This happens all the time and they let it burn out just as Firejed said in top 2 comments.

  • @bishop572 HERP DERP read the top comments

  • YeA it would be like COUNTY SMOKE SHOWING FROM STATION but u only seen 1 engine

  • Imagine seeing that leaving the station...dang..."County we got a header from station!"

  • on second thought didnt see the 1/4... but still gas prices are crazy especially if most of your pay goes to gas.

  • @dtiydr hate to tell ya this but in the us gas prices are around $3.60 a gallon thats on a good day..

  • hope the driver made it out at least not much left just the frame

  • Former f.f. and now trucker. Know ur

    Sh** before you talk.

  • 0:00 to 0:10 was the best part :)

  • What happened? Did the truck get cut off by some soccer mom who was too busy talking on her cell phone while applying makeup to bother paying attention?

  • @melevy maybe it was an asshat truck driver?

  • really bishop572 those trucks carry 7-800 gallons of water and need supply to carry out suppression of that magnatude, second the gas is a problem in it will carry on water and spread really fast. The fire crew did an excellent job in managing a huge mess and allowed the fuel to convert with little cleanup later, Gas tankers are always left to burn as a cleanup method.

  • gr8 job by the fire crew???????????? r u kiddin me! lotta standing around waiting for the fire to put itself out! fireman SUCKED!

  • @bishop572 You know what really sucks, is your ignorance. You obviously have no concept of how incident mitigation and Firefighting works, so please before you criticize the game, know the rules first.

  • @bishop572 Just another reply to let you know you're ignorant.

  • 7:32 Some ducktape and its fine again, no worries.

Ill almost cry when i see all this gas go up in smoke. Where i live the gas right now cost slightly over 2$ for 1/4 of a gallon (im not kidding) and you USA guys complain when they raise the gas price by a cent..

  • @dtiydr its 4 dollars a gallon in my town. estimated to be between 6 and 8 dollars by june due to the downgrading in greece. (im not kidding)

  • @eyeofthetiger444 8 dollas would be close to here but it actually went up to almost 9$ 5 days ago (actually new record here) but it went down slightly under again yesterday.. but were pretty much used to these higher price shit by now..

So you are so effected by Greece? Suprised about that.

  • @dtiydr we're more effected by Iran as that's where a lot of American oil comes from and with the situation they have over there, they jacked up oil/gas prices in the U.S.

  • @speedball10169 Yes that part is fully understandible. However i didnt thought USA imported pretty much any oil i thought you had all you needed?

  • @dtiydr in aus its sitting around the $7 a gallon mark

  • @xX3movamp1reXx Didnt thought it was that high there, interesting to know.

  • Holy Shit

  • can you say copeous amounts of foam with deck guns?...

  • good call, shunting everything off the highway

  • So by the looks of it they pulled an all nighter???

  • wow i can feel the heat from here..

  • i always stay clear of rigs, and large trucks. They can't move like cars! People drivin cars, can't even get out of their own way.

  • Wow, there's not much left of the truck and the tank is just... gone. Damn!

  • Quick question, why was water used to put out the tanker fire and not foam?? I'm not an FF so i'm curious to know

  • @JamesLProductions Foam is used for Jet fuel and electrical fires, plus most departments don't carry foam on their trucks just because its not a every day thing you need, and If those engine had foam, they can only hold about 50 gallons , they would of had to call a foam unit and water could do the same job perfectly fine!

  • @JamesLProductions While Paul's answer is correct, there's a few minor discrepancies (No offence, Paul.) Every department in the world has a different procedure for every call. In my personal opinion, foam would have been a lot more effective on this fire. With several units on scene, most of which are guaranteed to have a bucket or two of foam, as this was in July of 08, you could most definately apply a foam solution. Being on an interstate, there's no hydrants. Foam is so much more....

  • @JamesLProductions .. effective than water. Water would suffice for the brush and grasses starting to go on the side of the highway, but foam would be my choice for the fuel. I'm not a member of this fire department, and I have no idea what resources they have available. All I can tell you is 90% of the department's I've visited, ridden with, talked to members of, etc, would use foam on a fire like this. It's all up to the Incident Commander... Hope that helps!

  • @JamesLProductions Most likely don't have a foam truck. They're are 3 different kinds of foam used for different types of fires therefore some departments are against using foam for the reason they may screw up the type. In my opinion foam is better for every situation.

  • We had a similar accident were I live about five years ago. Operator of the truck fell pray to driver's fatigue and crashed into seven vehicles traveling on the left lane before rolling over and exploding into flames. The fire ran so hot it melted the asphalt and light poles. Unfortunately five people were killed in the accident including three that burned to death pinned inside one of the vehicles. The driver received serious injuries and was later accused for the deaths.

  • OMG,,so glad that driver is ok and got out..theres nothing left of that truck.

  • Is it strange that the fires are isolated to both parts of the separated lane highway? i mean its like they were trying to stop traffic going both ways?

  • damn soo much smoke for nothing!! CO2!!!!! :O(

  • JESUS!, thats a big fire, i can feel the heat from here

  • @TreySpooner haha definatly

  • Yet another reason why diesel is a superior fuel.

  • I have seen a few comments as to the ff's just standing around and doing nothing. I have been to gas tanker rollovers 1 involved fire the other didn't. The clean up from the fire was 10X quicker, the one that spilled 10,000 of gasoline took almost 7 moths to clean up. They had to dig down nearly 30 ft in the median to remove contaminated earth. If it burns on top of the ground there is much lass contamination to the environment.

  • @ff323ny do i need to say, "Risk a lot to save a lot"... what needs to be the rush at that point. keep it from going to a wildland

  • Wow, incredible footage! Nice work!

  • Chuck Norris just farted

  • And the green wishy washy tree huggers winge about the green-house gases coming out of my exhaust

  • There's no way that guy survived that crash

  • Fire crew say lets just stand around we are all getting paid, no attempt to put out the centre fire which will be problem for the other lanes....

  • @devonmale69 what do you suppose they put it out with...

  • geez no wonder the ozone layer is fucked look at that smoke lol

  • will it blend?

  • This Driver was cutt off by a driver who made a last minute dicth to get to his exit. This fuel hauler had no wher to go but right into the grass. The wight of the tanker and truck range from 70,000 to 80,000 lbs. Depending on the product this driver loaded. There is no recovery once we fuel haulers go off the pavement into grass. It is usually fatel for us drivers. I hope it is only instant for me if I am put in this situation.

  • @UnionFireCo37 i think some dept's have all members trained in hazmat ops, and their normal rigs carry hazmat kits

  • put the fucking shit out no water

  • @1324dank Theres gonna be envirlomental damage no matter what. However it is far better to evacuate the area according to the Haz mat Response Guide than just start spraying water and foam. There is no real contament for the fuel if you put the fire, so let it burn off

  • was that a peterbuilt truck oo wow thats one of the best on da rd

  • Im sry.... but everyone looks retarded.

  • goede rookbom xd

  • For those of you who are wondering why the firefighters didn't rush in & immediately start extinguishing the flames, it is a safety issue. There were no lives in danger upon arrival of the Fire Dept & no real property in danger. Keeping people & vehicles away from the area while the majority of the remaining fuel burned itself off was the best thing that could be done at that time.

I'm positive that there was not enough foam on scene between all fire apparatus on scene to safely attack that fire

  • Besides, applying a water stream, even with foam, to burning fuel can easily cause it to splatter endangering the firefighters. Also the water stream could possibly introduce oxygen to deep pockets of unburned fuel in the remainder of the tank causing an explosion.

In addition the less unburned fuel after extinguishment, the less the chance of reignition & less runoff to damage the environment.

  • @Firejed u use high expansion foam ya dip, like they use in aircraft fires

  • @joek0617 Just curious as im not a fire fighter, but the foam you mentioned, is that something all fire depts carry on there trucks? i would imagine it would be just for situations like this

  • @gsarjos no, not really,it's pretty bulky, but the airport crash trucks do... some depts use film forming foam that mixes into the water tho. larger depts often have dedicated high exp. foam carriers

  • @joek0617 Thanks, and that makes perfect sense now that you explained it

  • @gsarjos Many dept's do carry foam, but usally 1 or two five gallon buckets for smaller fuel fires like the fuel tank for the truck itself. They would need 1-3 hundred gallons of foam concentrate for a fire this big, but since there's not anything around this crash it's better to just let it burn so there's less to clean up and less runoff.

  • @Firejed this is a let it burn situation plain and simple

  • this oughta look good on the driver's resume

  • what was the other fire in the grass on the left of the screen?

  • i hope that guy is ok and he got out safe

  • Seriously guys, you pull a "trash line" on a fully involved tanker fire?? And with that, not even a hustle?

  • is the truck driver ok

  • nice video!! greetz from the netherlands

  • Love how union fire fighters work. Ya might as well have let the damned thing burn itself out.

  • @spiritwind1005 what makes you say that if i can ask?

  • This is the Job I do every Day . I haul Fuel to Gasoine Stations.. I wish people would Show respect to the men and women that are transporting their gasiline needs every Day... Like the police and Firemen I put my life on the line every day I climb into my Rig with a Load of Gasoline on my Trailer...

  • as do i my brother i pray every day i climb into my rig that this would never happen to me or my fellow petro haulers God keep us safe and sound and for those who drive around us PLEASE give us our room to manuver safely....i trust in thee o lord AMEN.

  • @tangoseven2 i show respect to all of yall thank you

  • thank you big E ! god bless !!

  • UR welcome One Love

  • @bigbadblue4u hey just so u no i respect any truck driver ill go into a burning building but driving a big rig with a shitton of gas attached at the back no thanks lol u guys got my respect

  • @bigbadblue4u

And that danger will only increase with Ethanol use! best of luck!

  • @bigbadblue4u god bless u man, and im glad u try ur hardest to drive safe

  • Wow, unbelievable fire. Hell of a mess.

Good job on the PDs part to shut down the road asap, and great job by the fire crews.

Only two questions. First, when was this? Second, was there any injuries or fatalities?

  • This crash was in July 2008. The driver bailed out before the fire and had minor injuries. There are other views of this videos from civilians that were on the other side of the fire. Thanks for your comments!
