@drumbassguitar they aren't talking about modes like Dorian and Ionian...they're talkin bout the Celtic rhythmic beat that Steffen keeps in his song...like Irish beat :)
@vukdim some of it is on his website, but I know he uses a hi watt bulldog combo, a CAA OD100 with clean channel, on his record he used a matchless chieftain 40, he uses cornish pedals, carl martin compressor. Just some of the stuff I know he uses/used. but yeah there's a list on his site.
reminds me of mike oldfield. which is a good thing. mike oldfield is epic and so is this guy. merge the two of them and the planet would explode because it can't hold that much awesomeness.
he and many others on the internet who play in similar styles would be so much more well known if they were playing this in the late 80s and early 90s. This kind of music is just considered a bit passe to commercial record labels and radio stations nowadays.
fantastic guitar player. Like extremely few out there. I'd put him in the same mould as Satriani (my idol). Not the same techniques used but the same "feel" for melody. Fantastic stuff!
I found steffen a couple of years ago, not to sound like stupid infomercial or something, but he really changed my way to see the musical world after all.
I agree,As I've said before I hear more Greg Howe,Satch,Vai in his music.Iv'e been listening to Holdsworth a very long time and maybe it's just me but hear nothing I could assosiate with Holdsworth in any of his music.Howe and Vai on the otherhand, definitely can hear them.
True,I have an artical where he listed his early influences and your right. They have all inspired Steffens playing at one point or another and DiMeiola was one,and some I've never heard of.But you hit that on the head.Though it does not say who his biggest influence was.I just hope he heels up soon and gives us some new amazing music.Steffen is no doubt the best under the radar player I've seen today.

G. Benson,Matheny,Gambale,R. Ford,
Bill Frisell,Albert Lee,Paco De Lucia,Mcloughin,Carlton,Bach,Paganini,Stravinsky,Sondheim, lol Alot, but he started on Violyn/piano and didnt pick up the guitar until he was 13,,,
yeah man,I can hear a bit of everyone through the different arrangements Stefen has created. He is fantastic and has a little something for everyone,it doesnt really matter what genre your into.Yet he still sounds 100% original.Only a handfull of guys I can say that about its that background that makes Steffen so amazing,I really hope he can give us some new music very soon. But I dont know how bad his injury was,or if he is back in the studeo already.
You go ahead and critique everyone. I listened with my own ears. I have 48 years of listening experience and have listened to many hours of DiMeola. To me he sounds like he was influenced by Al and guess what he even says it himself. Btw if you play a guitar, at some time you will use your palm, fingers, thumb, beer bottle, mic stand, amp, drum sticks or some other tool to play music. Or else you will just be another guitar player. No point in arguing it either.
@2FASTABMW4U Haha just because I disagree means I critique everyone? I even stated that it was my own personal opinion, not irrefutable fact. just because he was influenced by him doesn't mean he sounds like him. If you want to think that he sounds like Al Di Meola then that's fine, but i'm fairly certain that i have the right to state what i think. furthermore, i fail to see the relevance of the last part of your statement, aside from proving my point that palm muting doesn't make you al.
I'd like this guy a lot more if I saw him play with and actual band and not just a drum machine and over-dubbed music track accompanying his playing. it's cheesey.
At 3:30 when it gets calmer it reminds me of songs from Phantom Brave for the PS2, love ya'h Steffen, pure talent and prowess along with fiddle virtuoso from Jane
this song sounds so Renaissance-y. Steffen's shirt fits in perfectly lol and his Gibson's like a modern lyre. Steffen is definitely talented and is not just set in one style as his songs show. kudos to him.
I have far more respect for Steffen. To me it's all about him. The girl is just talent behind him making him aound better. The violin is like the the rythme and prettyness behind it. It's just that the respect for the videos are about the guitar for him. It would be cool if it were the other way around, though. When they battle in other videos I love it. Still I mean ...ya know what I'm saying.

You are correct. there are no rules when it comes to music. Or how about shacking a tree limb rustling the leaves with special sound effects? Bet it would sound cool. no rules
