I love this ad! It's one of my favorite Smokey Bear ads! It's a little scarey, especially when Smokey roars! That's what I like about it! I don't think Smokey would have to worry too much about me in the forest-I don't smoke, I'm scared of fire, and I'm terrified of lighting matches or lighters. I would not light a campfire-I'm too scared! I'd take cold cuts and foods you don't have to cook, flashlights for light, and extra blankets for warmth.
Wildfires could also result from people who are ignorant enough to leave a campfire going after they strike camp and go home, as most of us know. They could also result from people who ignore warnings about dry weather conditions, from which even lighting a small cooking fire could result in disaster if we're not careful. I don't want to see a camp tradition die - but I also don't want to ruin the environment and force people out of their homes through ignorance and carelessness.
forest fires happen naturally, they want you to prevent wildfires which are caused by human influence not acts of God. They were not aware of the advantages of forest fires when they first came up with the slogan.
