Tthe reason asian parents push their kids so hard is because in asian societies, the industry is filled with bosses that only look at the papers and certs and not the person himself. Which is why the parents demand that their children work hard, get the highest grades, not only for the bragging rights but because they assume that this way they can score a good job, get a good pay, be able to feed their future family, and think that thus you attain a happy life, though it's definitely not so.

I don't think it's really about money, but more about the overall value they see from pushing their kid to do their best. Doctors and lawyers can easily be seen as successful (not only from money, but the fact they impact lives greatly and can help others) which is why many Asians are pushed to do those careers.
