Seems wasteful to throw away 2/3 of the metal they started with just to have a solid part. Hopefully they can melt it back down and use it for something else. But that's cool, it's pretty much a lathe from what I can tell.
I'm a CNC programmer/operator/machinist. For your peice of mind, I can assure you with nearly 100% certainty, all shops save all excess metal to be sold to scrap yards for recycling. Especialy nowadays, metals bring high dollars.

I stated and they confirmed, in that video, that the shavings get recycled 100%, except
for the shards that stuck to my shoes. lol
