  • i remember going & riding the rides. they never should of tour the place down, memphis has went to hell.. the pippin & revolution was the best!!!!

  • Another part of my good times died! Thanks for the video!

  • So sad, I grew up going there...

  • Makes me sad - my family lived in Memphis when I was ages 5-10 and me and my sisters loved Libertyland. So many great memories, so tragic to see it gone. Now that this and the ice skating rink in the Mall of Memphis are both gone, there's not much of my childhood stomping grounds left out there.

Also, I remember it's the only theme park that let us stay on rides instead of getting back in line again - my big sis went on Revolution at least 8 times in a row once.

  • Wait a minute 7 flags hey that is more than 6! 7 flags, more flags more fun! LOL

  • @Coasternator lol some people call it 6 flags over Orange Mound

  • @odog65 Really?

  • look it up on google earth. all that is left is dirt.

  • I performed at this park in 1983 with the Memphis Blues Brass Band Drum & Bugle Corps, The corps folded that year also, I also went to Libertyland the first year it opened, Memphis was going down hill by the mid 90's and it was no stopping it, I remember when Southland Mall was the big mall in Memphis, now that area is also bad, I now live in New Orleans and it is just as bad...

  • @markryan1963 it made me scratch my head when I was 16 seeing 3 malls go to shit that have been around for a long time and I'm thinking I've seen other malls in that same radius from the same time period to the early 90's that haven't gone to shit and are not hoody. and I was saying to myself I thought malls are something that always stay successful and never close. hopefully Wolfchase won't be the 4th. someone predicited 04 05 or so it would have gone to shit by 2010. well we'll see after 11

  • @markryan1963 southland mall still seem to portray that image through their web site to get dumb Elvis Loving tourist Arkies/north miss residents who are clueless or don't care or tourists in general to come to their stores I'm shocked I'm wondering how much shrinkage they experience next to the Wal*mart on Elvis Presley I heard that wally world had the worst shrinkage in the country out of all the Wal*Marts. due to shoplifters maybe crooked employees too idk.

  • I am happy to say my community is helping to keep a piece of LibertyLand alive. Bay Beach in Green Bay, WI will be the new home of the Zippin Pippin. I'm excited A. that I don't have to drive 5 hours to ride a coaster and B. that part of LibertyLand's legacy will continue. So sad to see something that brought so much happiness to many was left forgotten and unwanted. Beautiful video, thanks!

  • I remember i was so scared the ride the Revolution =)

I remember that ride i always called the hammer head that i cried when I got on for the first time.

I remember wanting to puke after being in the boat roller coaster thing

=) I'mm miss it. its only in my memories now..

I was planning to go with my cousin and had no clue this happened to it.

Its a shame, it was a good park. I'll miss you Libertyland! <3

  • so whats left of it now?

is the whole park empty or does it still have some park related stuff sill in it?

  • Wow this brings back lots of memories. I always went three times a year once for a school field trip, once during summer camp, and always went through during Midsouth fair. I miss that place alot I just wish we could open it up for one last summer and hopefully raise enough money to keep it open

  • Memfrica!!! Hahahaa

  • so is the park destroyed and replaced with a different area or they left the park alone?

  • @TheManofthefuture101 The park closed down due to financial difficulties. It is now an empty lot.

  • six flags went into financial problems and yet it still runs

  • its all dirt and trees now. I grew up in liberty land and it was a big part of my childhood. I will mss it and i will never forget all the wonderful memories and friends that i made there.

  • ..I remember going after 2005.........

  • ...the only thing left is Tops BBQ... hasnt changed... ever!

  • Comment removed

  • it didnt close in 2005 cuz i went in 2008 retard

  • Oh really? I'm pretty sure its last day of operation was October 29, 2005.

  • closed in 05

  • 2005 was the last time Libertyland was open to the public, you were probably on the fair grounds for the mid-south fair...NOT Libertyland

  • Great video!

  • Never Been To This Park Wished I Would Have Had The Chance Though To Go! Looked Like An Awesome Park. Sad To See It Gone ALso.

  • Damn i miss that place :'(

  • every year when we wnt to Memphis always had to go to Libertyland! shame its gone!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Libertyland did not close due to financial reasons. It was sucked dry by the retired politicians who ran the Mid-South Fair. Their very own CFO told us about all the unmarked envelopes stuffed full of cash that he found all over the office. Jim Rout has stolen the Time Capsule and would steal candy from a baby if he got the chance. We are still fighting to re-open our PARK!

  • @kablooie46 Would love to see Libertyland reopened. But with the Zippin Pippin being sold to a park in Green Bay Wisconson, would it be the same ? What would they bring back ? I MISS LIBERTYLAND !

  • I miss this place. My grandparents took me there every summer when I was younger. I wished it was still open because I wanted to take my husband to the place that I so dearly loved as a kid. Libertyland, you are missed!!

  • The Pippin apparently gave you a great view of Memphis...I was always to busy screaming ,my eyes closed in FEAR to notice a VIEW..It was then and remains--my definition of PURE JOY.

  • Wow - as a kid, I spent many weekend days there in the 1950's & early 1960's. I loved the old place and I am sorry to see that it no longer there. My dad and his parents used to go there in the 30's & 40's. I always liked hearing his story of when he rode the Zippin with some teenage friends, & how one of them fell out of the coaster, fell to the ground but was unhurt, as he was totally drunk! It was his favorite ride.

  • Libertyland did not close because they swithced some rides. They closed due to lack of revenue which was because it was in an unsafe part of town that has been taken over by criminals and that's the reason the Mall of Memphis and Hickory Ridge Mall closed. How long do you think I will take for the Mephis thugs to close Wolf Chase Mall?

  • @t38j19jb

so thats why it closed becuase it was in memphis's chrinimal district?

  • @t38j19jb HICKORY was hit my a tornado..THATS why it closed..not for any thugs

  • i miss libertyland mane i use go there every weekend OMG IM CRYING I WANT IT BACC MEMPHIS SUCKS Y DO I .LIVE HERE I MISS THE ZIPP LOL

  • ...oh me too. Many years on the midway.

If I remember correctly we use to call it " Three flags over orange mound." Will be missed.

  • LOL. yeah still known as "orange mound's six flags." LOL.

I miss going there every year. Wish it was still around for my kids to enjoy.

  • what happened to it?

  • It closed in 2005 due to financial problems.

  • *TEAR*

i MiSS THAT PLACE i USED TO HAVE SO MUCH FUN THERE!!

  • I live in eastern Arkansas and Libertyland was just a part of my life. The closing of this park really did suck, bad! The rides were awesome for the most part, but they took out of a few of the classics over the years, like the Himalaya and the Spider and replaced them with unpopular 'contraptions'. I think the switching of good, popular rides contributed to Libertyland's death. I REALLY hope the Zippin Pippin can uphold just standing there with no maintenance or anything! Total Classic.

  • Dude it's pretty sad to see The Revolution in Pieces in Tipton Pa .

  • awesome park why did it close

  • Libertyland closed to do loss of financial revenue. Like I posted just now in a separate comment, they switched out popular, classical rides with "rock climbing walls" and "inflatables" - yeah, go figure. In the early to mid-90's, this park really was blastin' - went downhill after 1997.

  • annoying music on this vid,OUCH.

  • It was originally called the Mid-South Fairgrounds. The name was changed to Libertyland in '76.

The Zippin Pippin is one of America's first wood-frame coasters, constructed in 1929.

    It should be preserved!

  • @elvisworldwide The Zippin Pippin was originally constructed in 1912 and moved to the fairgrounds later. Do you realize that it's going to be reassembled in a park out in Green Bay WI ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @JudyGurl - Thanks for the correction, Judy. They should have taken one of the original cars and put it on display at Graceland.

  • in response to juliet97 you forgot to thank the one person who singlehandedly turned memphis into a big pile of crap king herenton!!!

  • @rrober2394 Wish I could give this comment a million thumbs up. He F'd this city up so bad it ain't even funny.

  • I WENT THERE EVERY YEAR i waited a long time to go on a ride now all of my hope to go on that ride is gone i was seven now im 10 nothing is right anymore without liberty land i loved it there i was always going to go there for my birthday if i could i would die there. . . RIP liberty land if only i could re-live that moment. . .:(

  • Memphis has just gone to the crapper! Mud Island, Libertyland, Fairgrounds, Mall of MEmphis, and you name it. Memphis was a wonderful city and beautiful place back in the 80's. Now, it's just a big pile of crap!

  • Great place to grow up in the 60's.I don't live there anymore but I still Love the Memphis I remember

  • @juliet97 sad thing is cities in Shelby County loose out on certain things over Memphis. like not getting certain amusements malls or biz's approved for that city due to the fears of crime coming in hence loosing out on Revenue for the city that the biz wants to locate in. a reason why the Carriage Crossing sux. and other things don't get approved. I bet things were slated for discussion we just don't know being very minimal interest not making it newsworthy

  • Bring a six flags the memphis please!!!!!!! Or bring Libertyland back..or build a six flags in Mississippii...there's plenty of room there...They need to build a six flags in every state..

  • Loved Libertyland... got to ride The Revolution 3x in a row once, without the brakes...

but you misspelled 'Libertyland' in the final title card.

  • :( i miss it so much.

we (my family) would go on me and my brother's birthday and ride every ride. we'd usually take a few friends. god, our city needs to get the financial stuff together quick.

oh and the coaster at 1:01

    (The Revolution) was my

    absolute favorite!! :).

this video is great. now all i need is a pronto pup and i'll have the essence of LibertyLand...

  • I miss LibertyLand so much! It was like a tradition 4 me & my family 2 go every summer!

  • it was a tradition for me

the only thing that kept me from losing my mind

every last day of sumer i would come here

    this pises me of

    this place was frikin awsome

altoona were the ef is that no1 cares get ur own park dont steel ours

    ahh ef this

  • So sad...

  • I miss liberty land :(

  • In 1977 I was one of about 20 people who worked the night Elvis came with family, friends and Lisa Marie. I worked as a ride supervisor and was ask to come back to work late that night for a special guest. to run the rides for the special guest. That guest...Elvis. That is one of his last public apperances and I was lucky enough to meet him that night. That is a nite i will never forget..Randy

  • @RandallChambers yep, just days before his death, in fact.

  • I'm sorry that the park closed but then again I'm not cause we are getting it her in Altoona! I can't wait!

  • i'm beating you to ride it first

  • the Revolution roller coaster is actually under construction at the Delgrosso's amusement park in Tipton, PA. it's scheduled to be open for the 2008 season

  • we got one of the old car ride cars in hernando, mississippi

  • lol

  • what is the coaster from 00:59-1:06?

  • Revolution, an Arrow looper. It was moved to Delgrossos where it is currently in storage.

  • thanks dude just checking. cant wait to ride that thing here in altoona. I want to be one of the first to ride it

  • I didn't know that Libertyland close until three weeks ago. Why did they close the park down?

  • financial reasons my prank is getting revoluion and i cant wait to ride it. is it fun?

  • HELL YEAH!! ^_^

  • my god. why'd those fuckin bastards have to close it! *cries*

  • I had great memories at libertyland and now everytime i hear this song it's going to make me think of those memories and make me cry.

  • Nice tribute. As a former Libertyland employee (1989-1993) I know a lot of people are going to miss the park, but the memories I have will last forever.

  • have no fear...joyland is here

    if they're successful with it

according to the news...it should be up and running and ready for summer '07

  • Uh, they just pulled the deal 2 days ago.

  • Comment removed

  • So am I. Were you at the Q1075 interview last year?

  • @vintagefame my ass. kinda like the Bushe Garderns I heard that's supposted to be built on Stewart Rd no wait that's not Memphis. no Memphis thug would venture there and make it unsafe hence bringing $ in from the rich parts of the Memphis area. I'm gonna see if it's for real

  • I haven't been to Memphis in a few years so I didn't realize that Libertyland had closed until just a day or two ago. I grew up going to this park, and I just realized that when I went to the Mid-South Fair a few years back, I must've been one of the last to walk through her gates. It really will be missed. I wish that someone would step up and help preserve the Bluff City I grew up in.

  • at least the coasters are being moved to a new home, i just hope they can get the zippin pippin running again, according to graceland, it was elvis presleys favorite coaster

  • *tear*i miss Libertyland!!!
