Yes they do have feelings which is why if you allow your gerbils to mate willingly without thought as to how you are going to care for them and afford vet bills etc if anything should happen to them then you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. The only time I will let my gerbils breed is to keep a healthy gene pool going within my area and that in turn means gerbils that have no underlying health problems and are tame and have a good nature and ultimately make good pets !
Mating close relatives runs the risk of producing deformities and limiting the gene pool within the gerbil population! It is not within the gerbils best interests to allow this to happen, it doesnt happen in the wild, only when we allow it to happen in a captive situation. It's not fair on the gerbils to allow it to happen.
@m4unot You definitely need to do your science homework about inbreeding. This is not about morality. It's about genetic diversity. Cheetahs are in serious trouble because since there are so few of them they are forced to inbreed thus causing the offspring to have alot of health problems. Same with some purebred dogs. Back in the day royalty used to encourage marrying within the family to keep royal blood pure. The consequences were hemophilia (just one example) for the children produced.
@m4unot .... DO NOT BREED ANY CLOSELY RELATED GERBILS !! Please know what you are doing before breeding gerbils. What is the purpose of you breeding them ? Have you the room for 2 litters of pups with anything at around 10 pups per litter ?(they mate straight after birth of the first litter) THINK about it before you choose to let them mate. But dont allow brothers/sisters etc to mate, keep them in same sex pairs or small groups and enjoy your pets!
She doesn't seem to realise she's being watch while inside her glass jar nest. You were really lucky to see the birth! Do you know how many pups she's had yet?
Yes gerbils have to be atleast 2. Or else they may get depressed and die from it, if they are alone.

Animals have feelings too ("just like you and me"). Nothing is made of stone.
we must not deny their right to freedom ("pairing / mating") and be egoist and therefore retain the right only to ourselves.

You think more about animal health, not morals and ethics ("very good thing").
hence so I owe them an apology for my innocent misunderstanding and misconception of you...
I'm sorry BECAUSE I HAVE JUDGED THEM WRONG! (:

why should the sisters and the opposite sex from the same family not to mate?
Since morals and ethics play no role in the animals' point of view
and "if" we isolate these sex as you say:
boys will start to mate with each other and thereby leads to homophobic
(homosexuality) which shows that morality and ethics has not helped us.

If a gerbil ("GIRL") mate with her brother / father
* it will affect them with something?
* or is it normal for gerbils?
- it is financially difficult to buy a new desert rat "boy" for whenever there are new girls .. and I will not separate them from their families ..
