He was basing it on a published study that used that trick in a different way. The data they were discussing 'hiding' was known to not be very relevent to analysing the climate data, and merely interfered with analysis without doing anything useful for science at this time.
It is common practice in science to try to remove data that are interfering with analysis and are known to be not very relevent.

In almost every case I've heard of someone being arrested for weed, it was always a simple traffic stop that caused it. So if temperatures rise and fall throughout yeas, it's not necessarily humanity's fault... like come on! The net change in rainfall is about zero. But there is no proof that this has anything whatsoever to do with human activity.

The system being set up in Copenhagen is not an environmental 'tax', but a 'trading scheme'. The difference is subtle but important.
Tax - The government charges you every time you do something (i.e. pollute)
Trading scheme - The government (or in this case governments) decide how much each party has a right to something (in this case emmit CO2). Anyone who uses more than their quota has to buy more from other parties who use less of theirs. It rewards people who use less...

This is the least authoritarian way of ensuring that emmisions do not go above the limits suggested by the IPCC.

Nobody is really worried about the amount of CO2 people are breathing... this really is an insignificant amount of GHGs compared to our industrial emissions, or indeed the fauna of the planet. Carbon tax has proven to do nothing for carbon reduction , just shifts who can afford to release it, with the middle men making a mark-up in the process. Makes a joke out of sustainable living , just like most tax sanctioned green efforts. If this is how we deal with climate change, then we have no hope of learning the science, or the means to adapt to the abundance of resources beyond earth & are destine to extinction, never having saved on life form from that same fate, here or other worlds.

Only British Columbia has tested the laws with a The Carbon Tax, it is not across Canada yet. Google the provincial web site (gov) and you will get the facts first hand. That provincial government even got re-elected over the left wing party. This is all just the long lying road to a real democratic forum, when we pick up the remains from the rampant cheat &gain one day. It really is time this species tried real democracy, for a more naturally balanced approached, make our own decisions.

... I just want humans to work towards there collective potential & stop waisting resources & profit on competing. Not familiar with the Swiss system these days, but I had posed a rough example of forum democracy at real canadian democracy (net) , more as a question , if you care to google it. Haven't gotten much response in the few years since I asked, but then society still has a way to fall before it contemplates real change & individuals begin to take responsibility for themselves more.

2. What is your belief and views about how limited natural resources should be assigned, both internationaly and interpersonally.
3. Admitting that no scientific truth is ever certain, whick do you think is a bigger risk: Taking action to prevent GCC and risking economic hardship if we get it wrong, or not taking action and risking dangerous climate destablization if GCC is real?

All that is well and true, but doesnt change the fact that they have admitted that these are their emails and they are intentially changing data or manipulatin data. A lie is still a lie...even to those that you deem 'uninformed'. And the models in the last IPCC report weren't right. By all accounts they were too conservative. Arctic sea ice is melting faster than predicted. Sea levels are rising faster. Dumb people are emitting more C02.

He was basing it on a published study that used that trick in a different way. The data they were discussing 'hiding' was known to not be very relevent to analysing the climate data, and merely interfered with analysis without doing anything useful for science at this time.
It is common practice in science to try to remove data that are interfering with analysis and are known to be not very relevent.
This is common in science.
