  • I love this movie verry much, I was crying when watching it, the sex scenes were emotional, it's excellent though it has an unhappy ending

  • I saw dis movie around 2yrs back.......its wonderful

  • BEAUTIFUL MOVIE and "THE BEST" ever!!!!! Timeless!!!

This was the FIRST movie I bought on DVD because I only go for cinematic excellence and this movie is IT and has it ALL!!!! The actors, cinematography and story (which was based on truth) outshines any I've seen YET when it comes to the real essence of what a relationship is made of. THIS IS IT!!!

A REAL CINEMATIC GEM for all who love Love and treasure it with heart and soul!

  • Does anyone know where i can buy this film?

  • Okay, I will not be on YouTube until after Easter; I am on a fast.

  • I think another movie made in 1994 was based on this called lolita except they where both english and the girl was more like13..... and had somewhat a bloody side 2 it.. i also suggest both these movies

  • I watched this movie when I was 11 O.o

  • i wish the young girl and the chinese man ended up being together. :( such a tragedy for both of them.

  • i love this movie!

  • after seeing this classic erotic movie I think I want an asian lover

  • after seeing this classic erotic movie, I think I want an asian lover :P

  • Music is so beautiful. So is the story...

    Love it.

  • Okay, the man is 32 years old, but I do say that that is one of the most provokative movies that I have ever seen. It is more provokative than Lolita.

  • Now this man is 40 years old, and the girl is 17 years old; now can't he go to jail for that? Wait a minute; that is only in the United States.

  • @rockypallo He's only 32, and the movie is set in French Colonial Vietnam in 1929, so things are a lot different. And, though I'm sure it was probably frowned upon by most, it probably wasn't illegal by a long shot.

    I'm not sure though.

  • @rockypallo

uninformed garbage. In most states, the age of consent is 16. 18 in a few states. Most of the western world is the same, Australia, Canada, Britain, most or Europe etc. all 16.

It's a movie, try to open your eyes to art, and get into the story of the time, a different culture (French indochina circa 1920's) a lonely girl seeking experiences, meets an unhappily married older man and nature takes its course etc.

  • @Japhrodisiac I think I know why she was crying at the end; he was married, so she found out.

  • @rockypallo she was crying because she finally realize he was her lover.and that to maybe...

that's what they said in the movie.:)

  • @tanneshaandahmed Okay, I see, but I don't get why she did not get that when she was kissing all over him? Anyway, TTYL.

  • @rockypallo ikr!lols this is so true.

  • @tanneshaandahmed What does "ikr" stand for?

  • @rockypallo And the way she looked at him.she was looking him right in the eye.

So rocky do you love romantic love movies??

    i damn sure do.:)

  • @tanneshaandahmed Okay, but you still did not tell me what "ikr" stand for. You said "ikr!lols this is so true.".

  • @rockypallo oh,it means i know right!

    :)

  • @tanneshaandahmed Okay, I will not be on YouTube until after Easter; I am on a fast.

  • @rockypallo "i know right"

  • The age of consent in Belgium is 16, as specified by Article 372, which reads:

"All indecent assaults on modesty committed without violence or threat, by a person or by aiding the person, of a child of either sex, aged less than sixteen, will be punished by imprisonment (of five years to ten years).

  • to me in the movie, she waas flat chested.

  • Where can we watch this?

  • my favorite movie and tony leung is 1 fine asian

  • one of my favorite movies ever soooooooooooo realistic makes u wonder and keeps u wondering.........better than a porno

  • in 2001 sep 11 what the al-qaida had done is not a good, they blast the twin tower in america, but now in 11 sep 2010............! what the america is going to do is really bad and it can affect all over the world......! burning kuran is not good. as i m also christian and i had read lot of pharas of kuran. it had mention abt jesus christ also. buring kuran means that to burn the word written for christ too..........! just think abt it...............! god bless

  • So what has Jane March done since then other than the godawful Color of Night?

  • good

  • wow

  • this was such a beautiful, emotional love story...I cried...the chinaman and the young girl are fantastic...my god...-:-(

  • Time International, Seventeen and Playboy... That's hilarious that they would use those magazines.

I still like this movie. I think you have to watch it and accept it for what it is. There are deeper themes than just sex happening on screen. This is a sexy film, but if you watch the scenes in between the sex, there's a lot happening here...but it isn't jumping out at you. A lot of it is uncomfortable to watch, once you see it.

  • Thought the Chinaman was creepy and unattractive

  • Thought the Chinaman was creepy and unattractive

  • @NorwichGirl100 i though he was romantic and sexy.

  • how old is the girl in really life when this movie as made?

  • @lesliebailey1 Jane March was 19 when this movie was made

  • guys,,,, my friend was looking for a french movie that was aired on tv5 europe around 10 years ago, It was about an old man like in his 70s who at some point goes to this young woman's house... The woman is seen wearing a white towel around her since she just came out of the bath, They then they kiss each other and then the man carries her upstairs to her room and they have sex and the main keeps saying "plus haut, plus haut". Any idea what the name of the movie is? Thanks!!

  • I got the documental of THE LOVER movie

  • @davidrosales1985 omg are you serious?i want it

  • Comment removed

  • @sweiland75 You're ridiculous. The voiceover served its purpose to a "T" if you ask me.

  • @sweiland75 Her voice was deeper and raspier to indicate to the audience that this was the voice of the young girl as an older woman- who's now telling us the story. DUR...

  • A beautiful film with a great soundtrack (what a debut by Jane March) !!

  • una de mis mejores peliculas, lastima que nunca la volvi a encontrar en dvd, la vi como hace 16 años, desde ahi la busco y no la encuentro hasto hoy que la he encontrado en youtube, besos desde Guayaquil- Ecuador

  • @sweiland75 I think all old ladies got nasty voices, haha.

  • @sweiland75 It's because she was telling the story as a old person looking back on her life, much like the notebook.

  • oh i just finished watching this and omg it wuz very good...it did have a lot of sex but beautiful sex :) wuz she really 18 or did she lie? i didnt understand tht

  • wht! shes like 12!!! damn looks like a good movie :)

  • when i saw this movie, i instantly fell in love,i felt the main characters made the movie more erotic not over the top like now a days

  • Watch my Short Film, Loved to Death!

  • they had some realistic sex scenes.

  • @bowiehs seriously? I always seemed very real

  • @LisaCuddy4 yea mayne it seems like they were really going at it lol, especially the first time they made love.

  • @bowiehs They said she used like 16 doubles for the sex scenes cuz she was too young at the time for the film

  • do they fuck ??

  • no they just wrestle with their clothes off

  • the whole movie is about them fucking.

  • the assistant mistress (helene patarot) is my neighbor's sister. His name is simon patarot!

  • cool movie.

Provokes that Caucasian (even half) or any racial boundaries can be broken because after all we are human, Asian and Caucasian interracial relationships needs to expand more! But I have seen a lot of that too- Because this is the CURRENT world, and everything is possible! Listen to me, believe in yourself and always have the positive mentality- as love can be blind, personality matters the most.

So go get your Asian man white girls, live in the current world!

    A Filipino influence.

  • + 1000 !

    I agree !

  • "A Filipino influence."

What do you mean by that?

  • yo what was that last remark?

  • in the trailer? "iam going to die out if love for u..."

  • how old is she ?

  • I think 15, and he's 32 (this is according to netflix). Kinda improbable.....

  • i was referring to the "a filipino influence" thing.

  • Could someone post the ending credits WITH MUSIC. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG? "SOMETHING" DOE" THE SONG WITH THE SANPAN IN THE SETTING SUN IS HYPNOTIC.

  • Great movie. The music was very, very good

  • Uh...no...it wasn't real. It's called acting. And she isn't a little girl. She is over 18 when she made this movie. Don't worry, it's not real...even though it actually is a true story.

  • you're right, jane was 19 when made the movie...i've read somewhere that jane and tony fell!;-)

  • @beebudly yeah she was like 19.

  • Well my dear, it's called real life and by the way, you had no business watching the movie - Hanna Montana was not starring. Besides the movie was great.

  • is my favorite movie, my favorite romance, i have a similar story...hope the end will not be like that....

  • For those who love this movie and consider it one of the most romantic of cinema, [i do], i highly recommend- 'When Night Is Falling.', a small film from director Patricia Rozema, made in the 80's. There are scenes of it on utube, but they spoil the surprises of the film. Just as poetic, lyrical and beautiful. I haven't seen any others that match these two.

  • I love this movie and sountrack too but I also like 1992's "Wuthering heights" I get the same emotions from the soundtrack from that movie, composed by Ryuchi Sakamoto... it's not as nostalgic as this one but incredibly sorrowfull and the movie it's so touching. Also I like Jane Eyre's movie by Franco Zeffirelli and the soundtrack composed by Alessio Vlad and Claudio Capponi it's incredible.

  • ooh, thanx, i watched WH in b&w a long time ago, but was too young to appreciate it. i'm actually in pre-production to film the trailer of my first feature film-

The FeelGood Hit, as i am a filmmaker, so i'm too busy right now, but i'll watch both those in aug-sept when i can relax. i've put both on my To Watch list.

  • nya...congratulations on missing the point, of possibly the most romantic film ever made. U have the depth of a bowl of soup.

  • its my best flim i ever seen

  • I WANNA GET THE SOUNDTRUCK!!!!

  • Me too.

  • Yeah that SOUNDTRUCK is GRUUT!

  • When I first watched this movie I fell in love with and I can watch it even a hundred times or million. It's so sad that they have to part ways in the end. Good story , good actors and director. Hope I can get a dvd copy of this film , cos what I got is vhs only . Thanks for uploading this film.

  • I'm reading the book. I have to do an oral apresentation about it

  • Best part is this a based on true story

Great movie rare moments of Asian man x white girl

    this looks more like

Hillary Duff x Daniel Dae Kim

    Jay Chou x Miley Cyrus

  • I'm watching at school! So beautiful!! XD

  • I loved this movie!

  • Jane March is so beautiful. If she was not half Vietnamese then she would not have that brilliant look

  • It's a little ironic though, that they cast a half Asian girl to play the part of "the Caucasian girl" LOL XD

  • I must disagree buddy

Firstly, the girl was born and raised in Vietnam. Don't you think the living conditions affect people's appearance? I know many full Vietnamese born and raised in America look half American.

Secondly, Jane March looks much like young Marguerite Duras. Also I think Jane looks very French, which suits her role.

Finally, there are many actors play roles with different nationalities. Like Ralph Fiennes, he's British and has played British, American, German...

  • Buddy? LOL

Um, I must say that I didn't pull much since out of your comment, but that's ok. Second, maybe it's because I am part Asian too, but I think she looks very Asian. I saw it in her right away... and I find it ironic because she's IN Vietnam and she IS Vietnamese, yet it isn't a part of the story. I don't know, I just found it amusing.

Also, American isn't an Ethnicity... it's a nationality.

  • Some say she looks French, some says she looks Asian. I don't find anything Ironic here, I find it logical due to the 1st thing mentioned in the last comment.

I have never said American is a ETHNICITY, just because American has very distinctive figures and so.

And Jane March is half American, 1/3 Vietnamese and 1/3 Chinese. She looks exactly like the author of the book, Marguerite said it herself too. So, what do you REALLY wanna argue about? Don't turn yourself into a racist.

  • and what's up with the "Buddy? LOL" ??? Have you found any amusing meaning of the word "Buddy" in your own dictionary I presume? =]] =]] =]]

I have listed some reasons to support my idea about letting Jane played the girl is logical. What about yours? Or the only thing you can think of is "letting a half Asian girl plays a Caucasian girl"?

And hey, when I mentioned "American", I compare it to Vietnamese, which is parallel. You have a problem with reading skill? =]]

  • ok, racist?! That doesn't make any since at all. I am going to presume English isn't your first language, because in America, "buddy" in your context is confrontational. I was never attacking the movie, the author or the actress... I love all three, I merely found an amusing aspect, amusing in the since of "Hmm, Interesting" or "cute!" Because I, myself, am half Asian. You were the one that turned this into an argument over nothing, but I am going to put it down as a simple misunderstanding.

  • wow ok! So then English is your FIRST Language I presume? Or maybe you're a linguist?

I have never meant to start the fight. I replied to you friendly [as every friendly meaning of "buddy" as it could be] and even asked your opinion "Don't you think?" and you started to judge me with the "buddy? LOL" and "Also, American isn't an Ethnicity, it's a nationality" stuff [while you yourself didn't read my comment carefully]

  • I talked a hell lot of people on here and all around the world [who are English native speakers] with the word "buddy" and none of them found it a "misunderstanding" or a "confrontational word".

I called you racist when you started to sound like you had big problem with the girl ethnicity. What's the deal? =]]

and, yeah English is not my 1st language. How about you? and what do "doesn't make any since" and "amusing in the since of" mean anyway???

  • I think I truly understand now, that we have what is called "a failure to communicate". Yes, English is my first language, along with Japanese. No, I do NOT have a problem with her Ethnicity, I pointed it out because I am FOND of her Ethnicity, as in, I think it is a good thing! You have to understand, English is that strange- that "buddy" can be a friendly word and a negative word, and you have to be somewhat careful using it. To a girl, "buddy" is often considered sarcastic.

  • well I didn't know you were a girl at the first place

  • 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/3 doesn't equal 1.

  • looking for friends
