You know, hear in Ireland stuff like this happens with the Irish language! I used to work in River Island and there were customers who were speaking Irish and I spoke back to them as Gaeilge and my prickish manager heard me and said English is the only language to be used in store so I turned around and said that this is Ireland and Irish is protected under law and is the first offical language of the state. My manager was English btw but that's not the point. Up with the protests!!! :D
Ms Glassof milk, cheers for that. Have been on to Cymuned, great site and a donation will be sent. Back to Llanberis next week Hiraith. If you are ever over that way go in to the Berin service station, friendiest service station ever and a taste of Cymraeg. Hwyl x
No I am English but I spend a fair amount of time in Llanberis. Great flag, great country, great anthem, Cymraeg is cool. Just wish the bombastic english would go some where else, so that the English who respect the welsh culture can go there in peace. Cymru Am Byth.
cairnsdayout- mate, you are welcome in Wales any time. Glad you enjoy yourself here. I wish people would realise that we aren't against the English, just the ones who try to ban our culture, and cause hassle, and ban us from speaking Welsh. Cariad o Gymru! Love from Wales. xx
That is why they are protesting against them. There attitudes to Welsh people while they are in our country is barbaric and nothing short of imperial colonialism. These sort of people shouldn't be aloud in the country until they learn to respect our people, language and culture. That's why the restaurant needs to be boycotted until the owners learn to respect us or they leave the country. Cymru am bydd!
I'm from America, and wanted to say that I go on youtube to look up Welsh anything just to hear the way you speak. I think it's a beautiful language, and I hope you teach it to your children. By the way, Latin is a "dead language" although they teach it in the better schools. It's only dead if you let it be killed. It's absurd to think that you have to fight to speak Welsh in Wales. I think the welsh have had enough taken from them. Thanks, Nikki
Yes we have similar problems here in Ireland! Like I feel discriminated against as an Irish citizen for speaking Irish language cos some people feel it is worthless dead and stupid! Like I was speaking Irish with a fellow employee in my job and the manager told us not to be speaking in Irish yet there's never any problem with the Polish speaking with each in Polish all the time!!!! Grrrr... Gaeilg go deo!!!
C'est normal qu'au Pays de Galles les gens insistent pour pouvoir etre servis dans leur langue au restaurent.
Also, discrimination and irrespect for other's culture and language won't get you anywhere. No language is «obsolete» when people using it keep it alive, able to describe their everyday reality, which is the case for Welsh.
And who's the «ignorant piece of shit»? The one questionning your violence, or the one not knowing the language of the nation he lives with?

Whats it to me? I'll tell you whats it to me, you wanker, My parents are welsh I have lived in wales all my and have been persecuted BY the welsh my whole life just because I DON'T speak welsh. Don't You fucking dare ask whats it to you, you ignorant piece of shit.- Oh yeah, just before I go, fewer people speak welsh these days and it is becoming an obsolite language.
....Nobody even speaks it, except for the 80% of this town in Wales. Quite obselete, isn't it. Perhaps even obsolete enough to have the power to run this business down to the ground with a local boycott.
My goodness you seem so knowlegable with regards to the Welsh language, it's exsistence, the people who speak it and the culture which surrounds it and you share this knowlege with such eloquence!
I'm all for keeping the Welsh language alive but is this really sending the right message out about it? Dw'i ddim yn gwybod...
