How come in shows like these and That 70s show the foreign and nerdy weird people are the funny cool ones but in real life no one pays attention to them?
People want Sheldon and Penny together for the same reason they wanted OCD Monica and goofy Chandler together, or how they wanted Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt together in "As Good As It Gets", or why Marylin Monroe married a geek guy or Einstein marrying a "normal" woman.
They are far and few between, but boy we do love those couples.

If the writers/creators need proof, they need to go back & watch their pilot. It's obvious they flirt with one another. I personally can't stand the Shamy & am hoping for Shenny.

I am sure if you watch the ite again you will realize the importance of the misunderstanding for the humorous response by Howard that completes the scene.

@gamewizard I actually find him quite attractive at times. There's an honesty and a dry sense of humour there that I really like. Each to their own, I suppose.

lmao It's awesome when Raj and Howard talk about how funny it is when the holiday thing happens to someone else. XD I know there are a lot of Sheldon fans, but I honestly believe they only reason everyone likes him so much is because everything he says and does is to someone else. I don't think they'd be as thrilled as they think if they actually knew him in real life.
