It happened that Boni's wife was related to Mariano Alvarez, the Magdiwang leader. Bonifacio identified himself as Magdiwang during the election.

I also cannot understand Aguinaldo's "declaration of independence" when subsequently he submitted to the Spaniards to be exiled and latter by surrendering to the Americans. What happened to his "Philippine Independence" then? Is it a farce, a ceremonial gesture, or the like?

@ogvalenz -- He accepted the condition of self-exile in HK & received money in order to buy more guns & ammunition in order to fight the Spaniards. Aguinaldo smelled that the Americans might colonize the Philippines, so even before the Americans could do it successfully, he declared the Independence. When he was CAPTURED in Palanan, he knew it was time to stop. It was a CHECKMATE. He calculated that he lost the war to the Americans whether he lived or died by that moment, fighting was useless.

Appreciate what the man contributed to build this nation. He declared our Independence to highlight that: the Filipinos liberated themselves from Spain, it was NOT the USA that liberated the Filipinos. Freedom was temporarily grabbed by the USA from the Filipinos, then the USA returned it on July 1946.

How come that story of yours did not show in the recent past where Aguinaldo was defame and despised by the americans to his own people? i guess its only a hearsay so it was overlook by historians. Sa ginawa ni Hen Luna, natalo ang mga Pilipino.
